i We do not hold ourselves responsible for , or even approving of the opinionsexpressedby ourcorrespondents , but we wish in aspirit of fair p lay to all to permit—within certain necessary limits—free discussion . J ¦ LODGE QUATUOR CORONATI , No . 2076 .
To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Your report of our meeting of the 2 nd , in your issue of the nth inst ., contains a slight error , which your kind insertion of this letter will correct . Bro . and Professor T . Hayter-Leivis is there described as a visitor ; he is , however , a member of our lodge since last June . The fact that he spoke of his attendance on the 2 nd inst . as
his first visit probably misled your reporter . That the names of some or our German brethren who honoured us with their presence should suffer from slight inaccuracies of spelling is , perhaps , only natural , and will doubtless be pardoned by them without troubling you to make special corrections . —Fraternally and faithfully yours , G . W . SPETH , Secretary .

CAPPER LODGE ( No . 1076 ) . —Thc first regular meeting of the above excellent lodge took place on Thursday , the gth inst ., at the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , City , Bro . VV . H . Harris , VV . M . in the chair , supported by the following officers and brethren : Bros . VV . Nevins , I . P . M . ; T . Day , P . M . ; P . McCarthy , P . M . ; J . Vincent , P . M ., P . P . G . Robinson , B . H . Spence , and A . Beckwith , all of thelodge
J . Bolton , VV . M . 2 S ; G . H . Stephens , P . M . 1623 ; A . H . Taylor , 1017 ; A . Maser , 291 ; VV . Tucker , 913 ; J . Caveily , 1 & S 5 ; G . Ward , 1861 ; and C . Jolly , W . IW . 1472 , & c . lhe lodge having been duly opened , and the minutes of the previous regular lodge meeting , and also of a recent emergency meeting , having been confirmed , Bro . Beckwith ,
who had been initiated at the above-mentioned emergency meeting , was , after a most satisfactory examination , passed to the Degree of a F . C , the whole of the working , both of the W . M . and his officers , being •splendidly done . The lodge was then closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to a superbly appointed banquet , and on the cloth being cleared , the VV . M . gave in choice and
appropriate language the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts , which vvere received and drank with enthusiasm . Bro . Nevins , I . P . M ., then proposed the toast of "The VV . M . " He said that the long vacation just ended had been signalised by the admirable manner in which Bro . Harris had worked the Second Degree that night ; but he could assure them that there was even something better
yet in store for them , and if they had heard Bro . Harris at their lodge of instruction the previous week deliver the three addresses in the installation ceremony , they would not only have been delighted , but would have had reason to congratulate themselves and the Iodge on having such
an excellent Master to preside over them . He trusted that Bro . Harris might be followed by as good a worker as himself , and then they might have no fear for the success and prestige of the lodge . He asked them therefore to drink the W . M . ' s health with all the honour it deserved .
Bro . Harris , who was accorded a real hearty reception , said he could not but feel that Bro . Nevins had flattered him , but he could not be otherwise than pleased if his endeavours to do his duty had met with their approbation . It was a pleasure for him to work , and if there had been double the work it would have given him double pleasure
to do it . He hoped T . G . A . O . T . U . would give him health and strength to carry out the duties entrusted to him to the end of his year of oflice , and then he had no doubt that , with their assistance , and that of the Past Masters and officers , he should be enabled to leave the chair with their approbation , and the approbation of a good
conscience . In giving the toast of "The Past Masters , " the W . M . said no lodge could succeed unless it had good Past Masters ; nor could a Master without their aid hope to carry out his duties as they should be carried out . He was thankful to say that he had been supported that night by a circle of good and worthy Masons ; Past Masters of the lodge , and he asked the brethren to give them a good fire .
Bro . Nevins said he felt very proud of being a Past Master of the Capper Lodge . At the next meeting the election of a VV . M ., to succeed Bro . Harris , would take place , and after that , he ( Bro . Nevins ) would have to take a seat lower down , but wherever he sat , he should always remember his year of office as I . P . M . with feelings of unmixed pleasure , lt had been a very happy time for him ,
and , so far as the W . M . was concerned , a perfect sinecure . He thanked them heartily for the toast , and hoped to be with them and assist in , and rejoice at , the prosperity of the lodge for many years to come . Bro . Bolton responded foe a very cordial reception of the visitors . He said he thanked them for their hearty reception that night , especially for the pleasure it afforded him
to see such excellent working in the lodge , and such generous hospitality at the social ooard . He felt great pleasure also to see their esteemed Treasurer , Bro . Dorton , present , one who , by his indefatigable perseverance , had made the lodge what it was at that moment—second to none for its great and grand system of Charity , geniality , and brotherly love . When he looked back and thought of what the lodge
had done for the Chanties—and if they cut Charity out ol Masonry there was very little left to be proud of—he felt proud of knowing and of being with such excellent Masons . He was delighted with the work , and trusted their W . M . would install his successor , and that he ( Bro . Bolton ) might be present to see Bro . Watkins placed in the chair as Master of the lodge , and that he might prove as good a
Master as his predecessor . Bro . Taylor also returned thanks , and assured the brethren that if he had not been a member of the Montifiorc , he should have been proud of being a " Capper . " Bros . Jolly and Stephens also returned thanks . "The Initiate" was the next toast , and Bro . Beckwith , who , for all practical purposes , was the initiate , modestly
responded . Bro . Watkins responded for " The Officers , " and Bro . Jolly for "The Masonic Press . " lhe Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings , which were most enjoyable . Bro . Shirwin presided at the piano , and the singing of Bros . Shirwin , Callcutt , and Brown , and the recitations of Bros . Taylor and jolly , added materially to ( he pleasures of the evening .
DUKE OF CORNWALL LODGE ( No . 18 39 ) . —On Saturday last the installation meeting of this lodge was held at Freemasons' Hall , Bro . J . W . Dewsnap , P . M ., presiding for the W . M ., Bro . G . F . Smith . The lodge was

i We do not hold ourselves responsible for , or even approving of the opinionsexpressedby ourcorrespondents , but we wish in aspirit of fair p lay to all to permit—within certain necessary limits—free discussion .
