MacKay , and others , when Bro . Beattie , the senior P . M ., explained at length the reason of their visit , namely , that a new lodge to be held at Workington was much wanted . The paramount cause was , since the resuscitation of 962 , a little
over a quarter of a century , the population of the town , which had lately been incorporated , had increased , perhaps , more than three-fold , and the prayer of their petition was based upon one pedestal alone , " The good and welfare of Freemasonry . " The chief reason the Master , Wardens , and members of No . 119 were to be invited to sign and support their petition was that the late and highly esteemed
liro . W . a . Gibson , P . M . 119 , P . P . G . Sec , was the first Master ot No . 962 , and they had always looked with admiration upon the senior lodge of the province as the parent of the Sun and Sector Lodge , and their parental counsel and assistance had ever been given them , characterised by the true spirit of Masonry . Bro . J . Paterson , P . M . 9 62 , heaitily supported Bro . Beattie , and added , if
their prayer was granted , it was the unanimous wish of the brethren to name the lodge the "Gibson , " which was well received . Bro . Studholme , W . M ., said it gave him much pleasure to sign the petition , and he had no doubt the officers and members of the lodge would do so . He heartily congratulated the deputation on their laudable work , and earnestly hoped that success would crown their efforts ,
which was much required in Workington . All present having signed the petition , with "Hearty good wishes" from Lodges Nos . S 72 , 9 62 , 122 5 , 1 4 00 , 1660 , the lodge was closed , and the brethren spent a very agreeable hour in the banquet hall .
