He spoke of the double pleasure it gave him to propose the toast from the tact that he --. as not a member of the lodge , and from his long and pleasurable acquaintance with Bro . Meakin . Bro .
Leresche referred to the great interest Bro . Meakin had taken in the St . Thomas Lodge since his connection with it , and how he had performed his various duties creditably to himself and satisfactorily to the members . If any proof was wanted of this he ( Bro . Leresche ) need only refer to the double honour conferred upon the l . P . M . by the brethren electing him their W . M . a second time , and to his
appointment by the R . W . P . G . M . as P . S . G . D . three years ago . Whether as a neighbour , in business , in Provincial or Craft lodges , it vvas a pleasure to meet and converse with him , for a better fellow never lived . Bro . Leresche concluded by remarking that to further prove their appreciation of Bro . Meakin ' s services the brethren had resolved to present him with a portrait , and Bro . John Hall , P . M .,
would on their behalf make the presentation . Bro . John Hall thereupon rose , and in a few well-chosen sentences presented Bro . Meakin with a large size coloured photograph of himself in full dress ( Prov . Grand Deacon ' s costume . ) The photograph is a faithful likeness of Bro . Meakin , and is well executed . Bro . Hall ' s concluding remarks were received with rapturous applause , and the I . P . M . ' s health was heartily drank .
Bro . Meakin acknowledged the gift , and Bros . Leresche and Hall's kind remarks , in gratetul . terms . Other toasts , including " The Visiting Brethren , " " The Officers , " "Masonic Charities , " and "The P . M . 's , " were proposed and responded to , the interval between each being enlivened with some excellent solos and glees by those well known executants Bros . Chas . Turner , Wm . Durnville , and Alfred Lewtas ; Bro . W . O . Pettitt , as usual , rendering valuable aid at the piano .
