THE SHRIEVALTY . —A very enthusiastic meeting vvas held at 17 , Lawrence-lane , on Friday last , in support of the candidature of Bro . George Hand . Mr . J . Mowlem Burt , the master of the Lorniers' Company , occupied the chair , and there vvas a large and representative attendance of the members of the Committee who are promoting Bro . Hand's
interests . The meeting vvas reminded at the outset that Bro . Hand vvas the first of the candidates to announce his intentions , the date on vvhich his declaration vvas made being as far back as Jan . nth . That being so , Bro . Hand had undoubtedly a prior claim to the three other gentlemen now before the livery .

The bands of the Scots Guards and the Royal Artillery will perform a selection of music in the gardens which will be specially illuminated , and the galleries of the Institute , containing the Colonial and Indian collections , will be open for inspection .
At the regular meeting of the Sun , Square , and Compasses Lodge , No . 119 , Whitehaven , on the sth inst ., Bro . Rev . James Anderson , W . M ., Skiddaw Lodge , No . 1002 . Cockermouth , was elected W . M . This is an exceptional case in the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland , for a brother to be elected W . M . of one lodge , while Master of another , but the choice is a wise one , and we have no doubt it will further the interests of the lodge .
ROVAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS . —This year a pleasant feature in the re-unions which take place from time to time at the Girls' School will be missing—vve refer to the ex-pupils' day , which usually takes place on the last Saturday in June—seeing that this year the holidays commenced early in June . We trust that the untoward circumstances that have prevented the gatheiing on this occasion will not occur in future years .
The members of the Airedale Lodge , No . 3 S 7 , Shipley , numbering about 50 , vvith their wives , sisters , Sic , had a very pleasant picnic on the 6 th inst ., to Masham , Swinton , and Hack Fall . By the kind permission of Lord Masham the party were allowed through the grounds , Sic , of Swinton Hall and Park , whence they were conveyed to Hack Fall in traps supplied by the landlord of the Kine's
Head Hotel , vyhere a substantial breakfast vvas served at 10 a . m . and dinner at 5 p . m . The weather vvas everything that could be desired . The W . M ., Bro . H . Telford , and his officers were most assiduous for the comfort of the party , and vvere accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their untiring efforts . The party left Masham at 7 p . m ., and after a pleasant run duly reached Shipley about 10 p . m .
The Prince of Wales , as Grand Prior of the Order of the Hospital of St . John of Jerusalem in England , of which the Queen is head and patron , has fixed Saturday , the 24 th inst ., at 12 . 30 , for unveiling the memorial at St . John ' sgate , Clerkenwell , to the late Duke of Clarence and Avondale , first Sub-Prior of the Order since its incorporation under Royal Charter . The ancient gateway once formed
the entrance to the famous Priory of Clerkenwell , founded in 1100 . It was the headquarters of the Order in England up to the time of the Reformation , and is one of the few relics of old London . It has for some years past been again the headquarters of the Order to whom it belongs . On the north front of the gate facing the Clerkenwell-road the date of the former restoration by Sir Thomas Vicura ,
Prior of the Order in 1504 , is still to be seen . The original gateway was destroyed by Wat Tyler . Of late , from age and its many vicissitudes—it has been in turn a storehouse , a printing office , a lodging-house , and a tavern—the building had gradually fallen into disrepair . Under the direction of Mr . J . Oldred Scott , F . S . A ., as architect , the restoration has been most carefully carried out by Mr . John Thompson , of Peterborough . As far as possible the old
work has remained undisturbed , new material being only used where absolutely necessary . The Prince of VVales will be accompanied by the Duke of V ' ork and other members of the Royal Family , all of whom belong to the Order , and as the day is St . John Baptist ' s Day-the annual festival of the Order—it is believed that there will be a large gathering of members , for whom special accommodation is being provided .

The announcement in the Gazette that the Prince of Wales has again accepted the position of Colonel and Captain-General of the Honourable Artillery Company has caused the liveliest satisfaction among the members of that ancient corps .
It is considered by no means improbable that the King and Queen of Denmark will attend the marriage of the Duke " of York and Princess May . The Czarewitch and the Grand Duke of Hesse—the latter as best man—are also expected .
At the dinner party given by Sir Francis and Lady Jeune , on Wednesday evening , the guests included the Duchess of Cleveland , Bro . Lord and Lady Roberts , Sir Henry and Lady Ponsonby , Miss Balfour , Mr . A . Chamberlain , Bro . Sir Frederick Leighton , and the Right Hon . H . Matthews , M . P .
A three days' bazaar at the Hampstead Conservatoire , Eton-avenue , vvas opened by the Duchess of Wellington , on Wednesday , in aid of thc Orphan Working School Haverstock Hill , and its junior branch , the Alexandra Orphanage for Infants , Hornsey Rise , in vvhich 600 children are maintained , clothed , and educated .
At the meeting of the Earl of Leicester Lodge , No . 2237 , on Monday evening , at the new Hall , Wells-next-the-Sea , there vvjere two initiations—Bros . Smith and Christmas , and a raising—Bro . Bro . Admiral Sir E . A . Inglefield , K . C . B ., presided at the 30 th annual meeting on Wednesday of the St . Andrew ' s Waterside Church Mission . The report presented was very satisfactory , and the Bishops of St . Albans , Colchester , and Gibraltar , and others who addressed the meeting , congratulated the Society on the improvement which had taken place in the character and conduct of English seamen .
Owing to the death of his brother , the Archbishop of Canterbury was not able to be present at the dinner given on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., at Lambeth , to the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs and the Stewards of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy . Many engagements have to be cancelled , and the annual garden parties at Lambeth will be postponed to the end of July .
Display , drill , and competitions made up an interesting programme on Thursday at the Fire Brigades Tournament in the Agricultural Hall . The Portuguese Pompier Corps again showed their wonderful proficiency in scaling a burning building . It may be said that vvith the Americans they share the honours of being the quickest at turning out and tackling the work of rescuing people from houses in flames . At manual drill the palm for speed was gained by Wimbledon and Chester .

M . and members of the Lodge of Honour , No . 379 , at a banquet , held after a meeting of the lodge , at which there were two initiations , in the dining room of the Masonic Hall . A very cordial vote of thanks to the above brethren was passed for their past services in the lodge , on the motion of the W . M ., who congratulated them in the several honours conferred
upon them by the Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter of England , and the Grand Mark Lodge . At the same time Bro . H . Gulliford Hopkins , also a P . M . ol the lodge , and Secretary , was voted a P . P . S . G . Warden ' s jewel , as a token of esteem and regard . Bro . Hopkins at the banquet gave a very interesting account of the history of the lodge in proposing the toast of the evening , to which the four
brethren suitably replied , Bro . Lloyd saying that he had the pleasure of initiating the W . M ., Bro . Major Charles H . Simpson , during his year of office in iSSfi . We hear Bro . Lloyd has accepted an invitation to be present at the session of the Grand Lodge of Canada , to be held at Ottawa , July 19 th , and sails from Liverpool by the Allan liner Numidian , on the 22 nd inst .
Q UATUOR CORONATI LODOE . —The annual excursion of the lodge will this year take place on on Saturday , the 24 th inst . The brethren will meet at the Holborn Viaduct Terminus , and leave by the 9 . 55 train for Canterbury , arriving there at 11 . 30 . a . m . A saloon carriage will be provided . Carriages will meet the brethren at the Canterbury Station , and drive them through the city , past the old Keep ,
to the Fountain Hotel ( where wraps can be left ) , and from there to the Cathedral . A couple of hours will be devoted to the inspection of the venerable pile under competent guidance , probably one of the Cathedral clergy , the brethren then walking to the Fountain Hotel close by , where they are cordially invited to partake of lunch by Bro . Horatio Ward , D . G . S . B . After lunch the carriages will take the
brethren to St . Martin's Church , a Saxon foundation , in which Christian service was conducted prior to , and at the time of , the landing of St . Augustine . Visits will then be made to St . Augustine ' s Monastery , the ruins of St . Pancras , the West Gate , the Masonic Temple , or such of them as time will permit j andthe brethren will be re-conveyed to the Fountain Hotel Dy 6 p . m ., to partake of a substantial
" High Tea . " After rest and refreshment , it will be optional vvith the brethren either to walk to the station through Dane John , the lovely little park within the old city walls , which at this spot are well preserved and form a raised walk round the park , or to drive there outside these walls . The return
train will leave at 7 . 45 p . m ., arriving in London at 10 o'clock . The charge to each brother is fixed at £ 1 sterling : a sum only rendered possible through the kindness of Bro . Ward in asking the brethren to lunch . It will be an assistance to the Secretary , Bro . G . W . Speth , if brethren will a t once intimate to him by postcard their intention of joining tjjC excursion .

A three days' bazaar at the Hampstead Conservatoire , Eton-avenue , vvas opened by the Duchess of Wellington , on Wednesday , in aid of thc Orphan Working School Haverstock Hill , and its junior branch , the Alexandra Orphanage for Infants , Hornsey Rise , in vvhich 600 children are maintained , clothed , and educated .

The report presented was very satisfactory , and the Bishops of St . Albans , Colchester , and Gibraltar , and others who addressed the meeting , congratulated the Society on the improvement which had taken place in the character and conduct of English seamen .
Owing to the death of his brother , the Archbishop of Canterbury was not able to be present at the dinner given on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., at Lambeth , to the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs and the Stewards of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy . Many engagements have to be cancelled , and the annual garden parties at Lambeth will be postponed to the end of July .
Display , drill , and competitions made up an interesting programme on Thursday at the Fire Brigades Tournament in the Agricultural Hall . The Portuguese Pompier Corps again showed their wonderful proficiency in scaling a burning building . It may be said that vvith the Americans they share the honours of being the quickest at turning out and tackling the work of rescuing people from houses in flames . At manual drill the palm for speed was gained by Wimbledon and Chester .

Q UATUOR CORONATI LODOE . —The annual excursion of the lodge will this year take place on on Saturday , the 24 th inst . The brethren will meet at the Holborn Viaduct Terminus , and leave by the 9 . 55 train for Canterbury , arriving there at 11 . 30 . a . m . A saloon carriage will be provided . Carriages will meet the brethren at the Canterbury Station , and drive them through the city , past the old Keep ,
to the Fountain Hotel ( where wraps can be left ) , and from there to the Cathedral . A couple of hours will be devoted to the inspection of the venerable pile under competent guidance , probably one of the Cathedral clergy , the brethren then walking to the Fountain Hotel close by , where they are cordially invited to partake of lunch by Bro . brethren to St . Martin's Church , a Saxon foundation , in which Christian service was conducted prior to , and at the time of , the landing of St . Augustine . Visits will then be made to St . Augustine ' s Monastery , the ruins of St . Pancras , the West Gate , the Masonic Temple , or such of them as time will permit j andthe brethren will be re-conveyed to the Fountain Hotel Dy 6 p . m ., to partake of a substantial
" High Tea . " After rest and refreshment , it will be optional vvith the brethren either to walk to the station through Dane John , the lovely little park within the old city walls , which at this spot are well preserved and form a raised walk round the park , or to drive there outside these walls . The Irish Times reports the annual meeting and distnbution of prizes in connection with the Masonic Female Orphan School , Dublin , held on the 29 th ult ., at some con . siderable length . institution as a veritable monument of the large-hearted charity and true philanthropic sentiment of brotherhood which forms the cardinal principles of the Order .
