It is intended to place a memorial to the late Bro . the Earl of Carnarvon in the Parish Church of Highclere , which was built some years ago entirely through his lordship's munificence , and it is proposed that it shall take the form of a brass lectern .

It is with very sincere regret we announce the death , on the gth inst ., of Mrs . James Blyth , widow of Bro . James Blyth , member of the Provisional Management Committee of the Boys' School . It will be remembered that Bro . James Blyth died on Christmas Day , after a brief illness , his death being followed by that of his daughter on Boxing Day . Mrs . A congress of Americans will be held at Huelva on the anniversary of his departure on his voyage , and in the following September two exhibitions will be held in Madrid , representing the condition of art and the instruments of labour at the time .
Bro . James Stevens delivered his lecture on "The Ritual and Ceremonial of the Symbolic Degrees in Freemasonry " in the New Cross Lodge , No . 1559 , Bro . C . N . Mclntyre North , VIM . , at _ the Portland Hotel , Greenwich , on Tuesday , the 13 th inst . The lecture was listened to with very earnest attention , and subsequently Bro . Stevens was
highly complimented on the subject and manner of his address , and the large amount of information and useful instruction in Masonic work which he had afforded his hearers . A majority of the brethren remained to supper , and a pleasant remainder of an interesting evening was passed in the social circle .
"Salt Regal" is the euphonious name for a saline draught which deserves recognition as a right regal and refreshing beverage whatever its name might be . Its change of colour from white to Royal red when in solution is probably the reason . I his , however , is one of the least of its merits , as it is beyond question of great value as a health preserving preparation .

A Masonic ball was given on Friday last at the Blackburn Town Hall on behalf of the East Lancashire Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution . The large Assembly Room was charmingly decorated , and the ball was attended by many wealthy and influential people of the town and neighbourhood . Many of the brethren wore their regalia , and the scene was of an unusually bright and animated character . Bro . Vetter ' s band occupied the orchestra , and played for 26 dances .

The members of the Leeds Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society have arranged to give a performance of Sullivan ' s comic opera , " H . M . S . Pinafore , " on behalf of the funds of the Leeds Masonic Educational and Benevolent Institution . The institution , of which Mr . William Warren is the President , has been doing good work for
year .-, and has at present on its funds ten children—six boys and four girls . It is , therefore , well deserving of the support of the public , and as report speaks well of the amateurs who are to interpret the opera the entertainment , which is to be given in the Town Hall on Thursday evening , the 22 nd inst ., will doubtless be widely patronised .

The Queen has sent a massive silver clock to the Emper of China on the occasion of his marriage . The Empero , sent costly gifts to the Queen on her Jubilee .
The firm of which Bro . Horace B . Marshall , J . P ., C . C ., | s senior ( Messrs . H . B . Marshall and Son , 125 , Fleet-street ) , pursuant to their practice for the past six years , have handed the profits for last year on the publication of the Methodist Times ( amounting to £ 309 ) to _ the Methodist Aged Ministers and Widows' Fund , which in this way has altogether received the sum of £ 1200 .

A largely attended ball was held at the Town Hall , Buxton , on Thursday night , the Sth inst ., promoted by the Phoenix Lodge of St . Ann , No . 1235 , and the Buxton Lodge , No . 16 SS . One hundred and sixty persons accepted invitations , a large majority of those present being Masons . The fine hall was tastefully and seasonably decorated . The Pavilion orchestra was in attendance .
Bro . Sir John Macdonald , P . G . W . of England , Province of the Dominion of Canada , completed his 7 6 th year on Sunday last , when hundreds of telegrams of congratulation were received from all parts of Canada and from Great Britain likewise . Bro . Sir J . Macdonald has been premier of Canada during 17 out of the 23 years which have elapsed since the federation of the Canadian Provinces .

A Masonic ball was given on Friday last at the Blackburn Town Hall on behalf of the East Lancashire Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution . The large Assembly Room was charmingly decorated , and the ball was attended by many wealthy and influential people of the town and neighbourhood . Many of the brethren wore their regalia , and the scene was of an unusually bright and animated character . Bro . Vetter ' s band occupied the orchestra , and played for 26 dances .

Faithfull Begg is a Parliamentary candidate for Kennington , and son of the late Dr . Begg the eminent Scottish divine , and was chairman of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce .
The members of the Leeds Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society have arranged to give a performance of Sullivan ' s comic opera , " H . M . S . Pinafore , " on behalf of the funds of the Leeds Masonic Educational and Benevolent Institution . The institution , of which Mr . William Warren is the President , has been doing good work for
year .-, and has at present on its funds ten children—six boys and four girls . It is , therefore , well deserving of the support of the public , and as report speaks well of the amateurs who are to interpret the opera the entertainment , which is to be given in the Town Hall on Thursday evening , the 22 nd inst ., will doubtless be widely patronised .

Bailey in her very best style , and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent .

The Queen has sent a massive silver clock to the Emper of China on the occasion of his marriage . The Empero , sent costly gifts to the Queen on her Jubilee .
The firm of which Bro . Horace B . Marshall , J . P ., C . C ., | s senior ( Messrs . H . B . Marshall and Son , 125 , Fleet-street ) , pursuant to their practice for the past six years , have handed the profits for last year on the publication of the Methodist Times ( amounting to £ 309 ) to _ the Methodist Aged Ministers and Widows' Fund , which in this way has altogether received the sum of £ 1200 .
The Christmas annual from the office of the Freemason London , is always a welcome visitor , and the elaborate care with which it is prepared makes one wish for the Freemason " annual" oftener than once a year . We are informed that the Prince of Wales , as the Pre . sident of the Royal Colonial Institute , will take the chair at the special meeting of the Fellows , to be held at Prince ' s Hall , Piccadilly , on Monday , the 26 th inst ., when Lord Carrington , late Governor of New South Wales , will read a paper on "Australia as I saw it . " The council of the Institute has elected Lord Carrington as one of a number of new Fellows .
The Canadian Craftsman is responsible for the following : " Bro . Lord Salisbury , Lord High Chancellor of England (!) , and Bro . Lord Ashbourne , Lord Chancellor of Ireland , are well-known English Craftsmen . " That Lord Salisbury is a well-known Statesman cannot be denied , but it will be news to English Freemasons that he is not only Lord High Chancellor but a well-known Mason to boot .
The Loyal Berkshire Lodge at Newbury despatched , on the gth inst ., a telegram to the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , Provincial Grand Master of Berkshire , offering their hearty congratulations to his Royal Highness on attaining his 27 th birthday . The message was sent by the Mayor , who is Secretary of the lodge , and who shortly afterwards received a reply from the Duke thanking the Newbury brethren for their kind wishes .
At the annual festival of Faith and Unanimity Lodge , No . 417 , which was held at the Masonic Hall , Dorchester , on VVednesday , the 7 th inst ., Bro . E . Newman was installed W . Alfred Greenwood , who obtained the second place in the recent contest for the Secretaryship of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , being about to leave England for the West Indies , having been appointed Private Secretary to the Governor of the Bahamas , was privately presented on Monday evening , the 12 th instant , with a purse of £ 50 , subscribed for by a few friends towards defraying the heavy expenses incurred by him in connection with the above-named election .
The Lord Mayor , Bro . Alderman Savory , has been appointed Chairman of the Council of Almoners of Christ's Hospital , who are the managing body under the new scheme . Mr . W . Vaughan Morgan has been chosen as Treasurer in succession to Bro . Jobn D . Allcroft , who was Treasurer of the old foundation from 1 S 73 . A
resolution conveying the sense of the Governors of Bro . Allcroft ' s great services to the hospital was unanimously adopted at their last meeting . The Duke of Cambridge will continue to fill the post of President of Christ ' s Hospital , an office which his Royal Highness has occupied with great advantage to the institution since 1 S 54 .
That most useful of book companions to the travelling Freemason— " The Cosmopolitan Masonic Calendar and Pocket-Book-, " published by George Kenning , Londonis now in circulation for 1 S 91—the 21 st year of publication . This year , however , inaugurates a new series of the book ,
in so far that it is minus the information hitherto given of the Grand Lodge of England , that portion being reserved for the " Freemasons' Calendar and Pocket-Book , " which is published by Bro . Harris made a most earnest appeal for support or behalf of the institution , and at the close the Secretary announced a total subscription of £ 280 .
The Lord Mayor presided on Wednesday evening at a meeting at Parkhurst Hall , Holloway , in favour of the erection of a Northern Technical and Recreative Institute . Mr . Paton , Chairman of the Committee , said that they proposed to erect a building which would cost £ 25 , 000 . They had received £ 7000 or , fSooo , and he hoped all present would
assist in raising the remainder . A resolution , proposed by Sir A . K . Rollit , was passed approving the purchase of a site in the Holloway-road , and of obtaining from the Charity Commissioners the promise of an endowment of £ 1500 per annum upon condition that the cost of erecting such an institute is provided by the locality .
