The meeting at Princes' Hall on Thursday , the 14 th inst ., when the Household Brigade Lodge , No . 2614 , was consecrated by the Earl of Lathom , Pro G . Master , in the presence of H . R . H . the M . W . Grand Master who personally constituted it , was in this respect unique

that , so far as our knowledge goes , it is the solitary occasion on which his Royal Highness has been pleased to allow himself to be designated as the first , and—we believe we are justified in adding—the permanent W . Master of a lodge . He has presided as W . M . —indeed

at the present moment is permanent Master—of sundry lodges , but he has never figured as W . M . designate . The Household Brigade Lodge will doubtless appreciate this great honour , and we doubt not will soon rank amongst our most important and prospercus lodges . #

* * Prior to the Festival on Wednesday , the Chairman Bro . the Earl of Yarborough held a reception of the Stewards from his Province of Lincolnshire . Nearly all of the brethren were present and very highly appreciated the kindness and courtesy of their chief .

Masonic Notes.

Our able and indefatigable Bro . W . J . Hughan has been visiting the brethren in the North of England , delivering some of those instructive lectures on early Masonic history for which he has justly earned so wide a reputation . On Monday , the 4 th instant , he was at

the Masonic Hall , Lincoln , lecturing on " Ancient and Modern Freemasonry . " In the course of his remarks , Bro . Hughan referred to the Cathedral Builders , the Assembly of the Craft in York , the Old Charges , Legends of the Craft , the rise of Speculative Masonry ,

Early Lodge Records , the rival Masonic Societies in England , their Union in 1813 , and many other matters of interest connected with , or arising out of , these branches of his subject . The lecture had been arranged by Bro . William Dixon , of Lincoln , in conjunction with

Bro . Robert Hudson , Prov . G . Secretary of Durham , and Bro . G . W . Bain , of Sunderland , and , it is needless to say , was listened to with rapt attention throughout , At the close , a discussion ensued on the more

material points which Bro . Hughan had touched upon , and when this was concluded , a vote of thanks was carried by ¦ acclamation and briefly , yet gracefully , acknowledged by the lecturer .

On the Thursday following , Bro . Hughan attended at the Industry Masonic Hall , Gateshead , and delivered another and somewhat similar lecture , but varying his discourse by ampler references to the records of the Masons' Company , London , and to the earliest

initiations of which we have authentic information , namely , those at Warrington in 1641 , in London in 1682 ; at Alnwick 1702-1703 ; York 1705-12 ; Scarborough 1705 ; Bradford 17 J 3 ; Swalwell , Old No .

4 8 , Gateshead 1725 , and also to Irish lodges early in last century . Here , too , our brother's reception was most enthusiastic , and the thanks he so richly merited were voted amid the warmest applause .

* » * On Friday , the 8 th inst ., he visited the Masonic Hall , Sunderland , and lectured on the " Old Charges of the Cathedral Builders and their lineal descendants , " a subject which our worthy brother has made especially

his own and on which , as is testified by the second edition recently issued of his " Old Charges , " he is beyond question the foremost living authority . Here likewise he met with a perfect ovation , and in the

discussion which followed elucidated sundry points on which his audience were desirous of obtaining further particulars than it was possible for him to compress into the lecture itself .

•* We have much pleasure in announcing that Bro . Edridge , the Mayor of Croydon , who was recently initiated into Freemasonry in the Addiscombe Lodge

No . 1558 , will , on Tuesday next , the 19 th instant , give an entertainment to the inmates of the Asylum at Croydon , and in the evening will himself visit the Institution and take part in the proceedings .

. The statement of accounts which was submitted at the convocation of the Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Rite , which was held at Mark Masons ' Hall , on Tuesday , the 12 th inst ., was in all respects

satisfactory . There Was a balance of receipts , after defraying all expenditure , amounting , in round figures , to £ 750 , while the investments , library , furniture , plate , Ac , and the freehold and leasehold property of the

are set down as being of the value of not far short of £ 21 , 000 . The expenditure included a sum of £ 233 disbursed in Charity donations , the other principal items being salaries , £ 500 ; rent , rates , and taxes , £ 151 ; and establishment , / 203 .

» On Thursday , the 9 th of April , Bro . John Locke , who had been appointed to the post of District Grand Master of Barbados , rendered vacant by the retirement of Bro . Col . John Elliott , was installed in office

at the Masonic Hall , Bridgetown , in the presence of a numerous and influential gathering of the brethren . The meeting was held under the auspices of the Albion Lodge , No . 196 , which is the senior on the roll of our District Grand Lodge , while the ceremony was

performed by his Excellency Bro . Sir James Shaw Hay , K . C . M . G ., the Governor of the Island , who did the Craft the honour of presiding on the occasion as Installing Master . In the course of the proceedings ,

Bro . Locke delivered a most able and eloquent address , which , at frequent intervals , was interrupted by the hearty applause of those present . We trust we shall be able to find space for a full report of the meeting in our next issue .
