" He congratulated the Earl of Yarborough on the magnificent sum which had been realised under his Chairmanship . As Masons , the brethren followed out their ideas as Masons . Charity was their first and sole object , and he thought in proposing success to the other

two Cnanties , one of which had already held its festival this year , and that of the Boys' School , which was to hold its festival shortly in June , he hoped they would join with him in wishing every prosperity and success to those , and the same success to those Institutions , as had been accomplished thit evening . He need not go into any details as to how the management was carried out . They were all satisfied at the present moment with the wav

their Chanties were being managed , and he took the opportunity of congratulating the Secretaries and the Committee on the way they carried out their duties . He only asked them to wish every possible success to the other Institutions , and nrght they go on prospering year by year and accumulate funds and invest surplus every year , because they did nst know what bad times might come ,

B ., rising to reply , said he desired to tender his congratulations to the noble Chairman and theSteivards on the result of the evening ' s announcement , and to thank Lord Euston f jr the very kind way he had spoken of him personally . He greatly appreciated the honour which had been bestowed on him b y the M . YV . G . M ., and which he felt met with the approval of the Craft generally . He also thanked his lordship for the manner in which he had mentioned the other Institutions , on whose behalf he had to reply . All were equally deserving of suooort . At

the Benevolent Festival in February last nearl y ^ 20 , 000 was subscribed , showing clearly that the work of that Institution was very dear to the brethren . He trusted the Boys would come in for a few of the crumbs left after such splendid results for the other Institutions . The progressive Boys ' School well deserved substantial support . The Results of the Public Examinations show how increasingl y successful the system of education is —our being able to compete in the highest examinations with boys two or three

years older . With that very distinguished brother the Duke of Devonshire in the chair , he-looked for a result at the festival on June 24 th , which woald enable the Committee to make , not only further investments as recommended by the proposer , but also to make further provision for an extended operalion of the work of the School .
