THE FINAL MEETING of the Board of Stewards forthe recent Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution was held at Freemasons' Hall , on Ftiday , the Sth instant , when the accounts were submitted , passed , and ordered to be paid , and votes of thanks passed to the officers .

THE LORD CHIEF J USTICE , at Liverpool Assizes , on Tuesday , said that he saw that the diminution of drunkenness in Liverpool synchronised with a diminution in the number of public-houses . If that were more than an accidental occurrence it suggested matter for very grave consideration on the part of those who were charged with the granting , withdrawal , or renewal of public-house licences .

THE QUEEN , accompanied by the Princess Henry of Battenburg and the Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein , left Windsor Castle for Portsmouth Dockyard on Wednesday . On arriving at their destination , the Royal party at once embarked on board the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert , and crossed the Channel under naval escort to Cherbourg . congratulated on the pleasant evening that was spent , everything being done for the comfort and enjoyment oi those present . A word of praise is due to Bros . Walter Hill and Co ., of Southampton-row , London , to prepare and issue for the company a list of farm houses and country lodgings to be let in the vicinity of the London and North Western stations in North , South , and Central Wales , the English Lake
district , Leamington , Buxton , and other tourist resorts , so that visitors may have the means of ascertaining what accommodation of this description is available in the districts mentioned , lt is also intended to include hotels and the better class boarding houses in the pamphlet . THE FINAL MEETING of the Board of Stewards forthe recent Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution was held at Freemasons' Hall , on Ftiday , the Sth instant , when the accounts were submitted , passed , and ordered to be paid , and votes of thanks passed to the officers .
AT THE Court of Almoners of Christ ' s Hospital , on Wednesday , Bro . Alderman W . THE LORD CHIEF J USTICE , at Liverpool Assizes , on Tuesday , said that he saw that the diminution of drunkenness in Liverpool synchronised with a diminution in the number of public-houses . If that were more than an accidental occurrence it suggested matter for very grave consideration on the part of those who were charged with the granting , withdrawal , or renewal of public-house licences .

THE QUEEN , accompanied by the Princess Henry of Battenburg and the Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein , left Windsor Castle for Portsmouth Dockyard on Wednesday . On arriving at their destination , the Royal party at once embarked on board the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert , and crossed the Channel under naval escort to Cherbourg . Here they remained for the night , and then

MASONIC BALL . —On Friday , the Sth inst ., thebrethren of Lodge St . John , No . 272 , Mid-Calder , held their fifth annual assembly , over 50 couple taking part in the grand march . The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion with plants and evergreens , and the Committee are to be

If WILL HE good news to the many thousand followers of Association football in London that the negotiations which have been in progress for some considerable time between the Football Association Council and the Crystal Palace Executive , with a view to the final tie for the Cup being played on the grounds of the Palace , have ended
satisfactorily , and that consequently the concluding stage of the struggle for the national trophy will be decided al Sydenham . There is a splendid piece of turf for the greal match , and although several huge stands will have to be erected for the occasion , there will be no difficulty , such as might have been experienced at other grounds , in providing for a crowd of 40 . 000 or 50 , 000 .

and went on with the unusual one of "The Mikado of Japan , " were 13 in number , and were interspersed with 13 songs , while the dinner , which it is hardly necessary to point out , was held on the 13 th inst ., proved a great success , the number of guests who were present being about 400 ,
