pierced jewel presented by Bro . C . Swinn , of Manchester . Bro . J . C . Pocock exhibited a plate , being in the main a reproduction of No . i of the series of six engravings published by Lambert de Lintot , but with a new title , "The Mirror of Wisdom , " and dedicated to the Fraternity on the accomplishment ot the Union of the two Grand Lodges . In this state it was unknown to most of the members . Bro . Dr . Chetwode Crawley had sent a broadsheet containing a mock Masonic procession , similar in some respects to the well-known one in the " Westminster Journal " of 1742 , but not identical . He had also
sent an mdia-ink drawing of Montgomerie , Grand Guarder , for examination , it having been suggested that said drawing was the original from which the well-known mezzotint was engraved , and desiring the opinion of the brethren on the question . The general opinion proved adverse to this suggestion , it being held that the drawing was undoubtedly copied from the print , instead of the other way round . The Secretary read an official conjoint invitation from the four lodges working at Antwerp , announcing that there would shortly be held a joint lodge of mourning
in honour of Belgian Masons departed this life during the last seven years , and requesting the Quatuor Coronati Lodge to send some brethren over for the occasion as a deputation from the lodge . Letters of apology for non-attendance were read from Bros . Sir C Warren , R . F . Gould , Rev . C . H . Maiden , W . J . Hughan , and John Lane . Bro . Frederick J . W . Crowe , of Torquay , author of the English , Scottish , and Irish "Master Masons'Handbooks , " of "Masonic Clothing and Regalia , " and of several papers read before the lodge , was proposed from the chair as a joining member , and
seconded by the S . W ., as is the invariable rule in this lodge . Bro . W . H . Rylands , then read a paper entitled " Notes on Sussex Masonry . " This interesting paper treated of many subjects , and was the result of notes gathered during two autumn holidays near Chichester . The more interesting of these were perhaps the facts , so far as known , connected with the curious article found in the Lavant Cave , supposed ^ to be a small level formerl y used by speculative Masons , and the description of Rook ' s Hill , with the remains of a building on the summit , where a
Masonic tradition of 1730 asserted a Freemasons' lodge had been held since the time of Julus _ Cesar , once a year , on Tuesday in Easter week , and where lodges certainly were held in the open air at the beginning of last century . That the paper evoked interest is shown by the fact that considerable discussion arose afterwards , in which Bros . Klein , Speth , Ninnis , Horsley , Armitage , and le Strange took part . During the year now expiring , the VV . M ., Bro . Klein , had at each meeting given an address on some : one of the " Mysteries of Nature and Science , " deducing in each case apt Masonic lessons .
This being the last meeting of his term of office , Bro . Klein , taking for his subject " Beauty , " wound up the series , and engaged the deep attention ot his hearers for some half-hour , concluding , amid marked signs of hearty appreciation . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant for dinner , the post-prandial proceedings being made more than usually interesting by an eloquent speech , in somewhat hesitating , perhaps , but forcible English withal , from Bro . J . L . Hasse , Grand Orator ol the G . O . oi Belgium , and W . M . oi the Lodge Amis du Commerce et de la Perseverance , Antwerp .

The addresses were most effectively rendered by the Installing Master , Bro . _ W . A . Shaw . The Auditors' report , which showed the lodge to be in a most flourishing financial positon , was received and adopted , Bro . J . W . H . Littleboy , P . M ., was elected Charity Representative , a candidate was proposed for joining , and letters of regret at inability to attend , having been read from the Prov . G . M ., the Earl of Onslow , the Deputy Prov . G . M ., the Prov . Grand Secretary , and other brethren ,
the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to an excellent banquet , which was supplied by the lyler , Bro . W , Chapman , in his usual efficient manner . On the removal of the cloth , The W . M ., in proposing " The Queen and the Craft , " said they as Freemasons were noted for their loyalty , on which they prided themselves . Never in thc world ' s history had a country prospered as theirs had done during thc reign of their beloved
Queen . She had proved herself a wise ruler , and as a good woman she had raised the moral tone of their land . He was especially proud that the lirst toast he should have the honour of giving as W . M . of the Bisley Lodge would be that of "The Queen . " In introducing the next toast , " The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of VVales , " the W . M . said he is , I suppose , the most popular man in the kingdom and the fact that he has so long not only maintained but increased that popularity speaks volum-s for his tact and urbanity . We are pleased that he takes so keen an interest in our Craft and proud of having him as our Grand Master , When he met with his accident 1 am sure

no body of men felt for him as did his Masonic brethren . Our deepest sympathy has also been aroused for the Princess in her sad bereavement . In giving " The Grand Officers , " the W . M . said he regretted not knowing more of those distinguished Masons who were appointed to carry on the business of Grand Lodge . But he most cordially welcomed their dear friend and neighbour Bro . Gould , a Past Grand Officer , who for his great services as a Masonic historian' was justly entitled to the highest distinction that could be awarded him .
Bro . R . F . Gould , P . G . D ., in reply , said it afforded him much pleasure to return thanks for the officers of the Grand Lodge of England , Present and Past . In the one category , that of the Grand Officers who were still on the active list , the W . M . had already spoken of the Prince of Wales , who was the head of their Fraternity , as being in all probability the most popular man in the United Kingdom . In the other category , too , namely that of the Grand Officers of the past , he thought a brother might be named whose popularity was also very great , and at the present moment only a little
inferior among the English-speaking races , to that of the Grand Master himself . The distinguished Mason to whom he referred was General Sir Herbert Kitchener , Past G . Warden of England , under whose command the British and native troops had so recently marched to victory in the Soudan . It was the seventh occasion on which he ( Bro . Gould ) had been present at the installation meeting of the Bisley Lodge . The manner in which their work was performed was always a great credit to the members ,
and the principal ceremony of that evening—so well carried out by the retiring Master —had absolutely left nothing to de desired . Under the new Master he felt sure that the lustre of the lodge would be worthily sustained throughout the ensuing year , and he heartily wished him , together with the brethren who had accepted office at his hands , a happy and prosperous time , until the period should again come round when a fresh Master and fresh officers would be selected to follow in their footsteps .
In proposing " The Provincial Grand Master , Lord Onslow , and the Provincial Grand Officers , " the W . M . expressed great regret that their Prov . G . Master could not be . with them on that occasion , they were , however , honoured in having many Prov . Grand Officers present , of whom their own lodge could boast a goodly number . He was sure that these brethren were chosen because of the good work they had done in their respective lodges and were fully entitled to the honours conferred on them . He would like to couple with that toast the name of Bro . Smallpeice , Provincial Grand Treasurer .
The Prov . G . Treasurer , in his reply , stated that the numerous engagements of the Prov . G . M . prevented him from visiting lodges as much as he would like . He also dilated on the difficulty of apportioning the few provincial collars among the many deserving brethren , and mentioned that his was an elective office . The I . P . M ., in proposing "The VV . M ., " said they were all pleased to see him in the chair , as they were quite sure he would perform the duties of his . office in accordance
with the best traditions of the Bisley Lodge . The W . M ., in repty , expressed his gratitude to the brethren for having elected him as _ their Master , and hoped with their assistance to have a successful year of office . H 5 said it had been his greatest ambition to become Mister of a lodge and particularly of his mother lodge . He was the second initiate of the Bisley Lodge who had reached the Master ' s chair and he could not do better than follow in the steps of the first one , Bro . Littleboy .
In proposing "The l . P . M . and the Past Masters of the Lodge , " the W . M . said thai the Past Masters were the backbone of the lodge and that they were very fortunate in having such good ones . With regard to Bro . Shaw , they all knew how he kindly came to their assistance and filled up a gap . Under his rule the lodge had prospered , no more genial Master could have presided over them , they had had no friction and had learned to love Bro . Shaw more and more .
Bro . Shaw said how pleased he was with his year of office , thanked the oflicers and brethren for the cordial manner in which they had supported him , and said how proud he was of the jewel which had been presented to him . Bros . Mossop , Rideal , and Norman suitably responded to the toast of "The Visitors . "
In proposing "The Officers of the Lodge , " the W . M . said without good officers it was impossible for the working of thc lodge to be carried on well ; they had been told that theirs was a model lodge ; let them see that it remained so , and let them strive that the lodge might be in the future what it had been in the past—Nulli secimdus . The S . W ., S . D ., Steward , and Secretary responded , The Tyler's toast brought a most happy and successful meeting to a close .
An excellent musical programme was most successfully carried out by Bros . E . J . Hunt and F . Theobald ( duet ); H . VV . Gloster , J . E . O'Connor , H . A . Whitburn ; H . J . Bidwell , and F . Millward Wilkins . Bro . O'Connor accompanied on the pianoforte .

The Auditors' report was read , confirmed , and adopted . The VV . M . elect , Bro . L . W .
Harris , was installed in a most excellent manner by the outgoing Master , Bro , W . S . Hooper . The investiture of officers then took place as follows : Bros . VV . S . Hooper , I . P . The three addresses were given by the Installing Mister in a fluent and emphatic manner , which was fully appreciated by the brethren . The W . M ., addressing the lodge , said that his first official duty—and indeed it was a most
pleasing one—was that of alluing the Past Mister ' s jewel voted at the last meeting on the breast of their late Master . He felt sure that thc brethren would agree with him that Bro . Hooper had gained the esteem and admiration of eve-y one by thc skill and ability with which he had ruled the lodge during his year of office . He , as their new W . M ., should be proud to follow so brilliant an example . Uro . Hooper replied in a few well-chosen words , thanking thc brethren for the honour they had conferred on him . It was resolved by the lodge that during the absence abroad of the Secretary , Bro . Will Chapman , he should be considered as a country member . A communication from the the Grand Secretary re the Grand Lodge of Peru was read , after which the lodge was
closed . The banquet , excellent in character , took place in the great hall , and the usual loyal toasts— "The Queen and the Craft" and ' H . R . H . the Prince of VVales , M . W . G . M . " —were ably put and loyally recognised . To the toast of "The Pro G . M . and the rest of the Grand Oflicers , Present and Past , " Bro . Aid . Green responded . " The Health of the VV . M . 1 he minutes of thc previous meeting were read and confirmed , after which Bro . J . E . O'Connor was passed to the Second Degree . Bro . J . Tomlinson , S . W ., Master elect , was then presented b y Bro . J . W . H . Littleboy , P . M ., D . C , to the W . M ., Bro . W . A . Shaw , to receive at his hands the benefit of installation , which was carried out in an exemplary manner , before a large Board of Installed Masters . Bro . Tomlinson invested his officers as follows : Bros . A . M . Kenneit , S . W . ; H . A . Whitburn , J . VV . ; Capt . J . Hoey , P . M ., Treas . ; I . B . S . Lancaster . P . M ., Sec ; G . 1 . A . Althorp , J . D . ; H . W . Gloster , I . G . ; C . F . Waters and J . B . Walker , Stwdi . ; and W . Chapman , Tyler .
Craft Masonry.
no body of men felt for him as did his Masonic brethren .

M . " was given by the l . P . M . The W . M ., in reply , said that a new epoch had been attained in the Eccentric
