Master had carried out the consecration service , and the great interest he took in Masonry in the province . They all , he said , must rejoice at the formation of another lodge , and he hoped the Wineslai Lodge had a prosperous future before it , and that the brethren would do all they could to extend Masonry in the district . Bro . HUDSON also spoke in a similar strain .
Bro . H . BULLOCK submitted " The Worshipful Master . " It was , he said , through the instrumentality of Bro . Weston that the Wineslai Lodge was formed and they all knew he would worthily fill the office of W . M ., and promote the interest and welfare of the lodge in every possible way . They knew his work as W . M . of the mother lodge , the Grenville , at Buckingham , and he felt sure the lodge would prosper under his charge .
The WORSHIPFUL MASTER , in- replying to the toast , expressed his pleasure at having been elected to the office of Master of the Wineslai Lodge , and hoped he should carry out his duties to a successful issue . He had a good array of officers coming after him , and he felt sure there was a prosperous future for the lodge . He had been anxious about that day , and was glad that the consecration ceremony had passed off in so excellent a manner , and that they had been honoured with the presence of so many visirimr brethren .

M . on haviny been elected to his office , and wishing him a successful year . Bro . BENNETT , who expressed his pleasure at their being honoured with the presence of brethren from Oxon , Berks , Bristol , Northants and Hunts , and Beds . The toast was replied to by Bros . F . W . WEBB , Beds , and F . B . WHITFORD , Norths and Hunts .
Bro . Lord ADDINGTON submitted the toast of "The Masonic Charities . ' The real basis of Masonry , his lordship said , was founded on Charity , and he was exceedingly g lad such work was being carried on . They had only to look at their Charities to see the value of Masonry , but , in addition to that , other good and Charitable work was done by the brethren in the various provinces . He wished that lodge every success , and that it might be able to lend its support to the Charities of the Craft .
Bro . J . MARSHALL replied to the toast . He had had the honour of attending two of the Charity Festivals , and could speak of the great and hearty interest taken in their charitable Institutions , and of their great value . If Masonry was only more largely known than it was they would not hear much said against it , but rather it would be highly spoken of and
praised . He was pleased to say the sum of £ 3 13 s . 6 d . had been subscribed in that room , and that the sum of £ 1 4 s . 6 d . would be sent to each of their three Charities . He felt sure Bros . Hedges , Terry , and McLeod would be very glad to receive the money , though small in amount . Still it was the first contribution of a new lodge , which he hoped would be able to do more in the future .
Bro . WARNI : gave " The W . M . and Wardens of the Recommending Lodge . " Bro . HUDSON , W . M . of the Grenville Lodge , replied to the toast , and said he felt certain , seeing the patronage the Wineslai Lodge had received that day and the good officers they had elected , that it would prosper . Bro . G . F . MARSH also acknowledged the toast .
Bro . REYNOLDS proposed " The Officers of the Lodge , " and said he was proud to see Lord Addington had been elected to the office of Senior Warden , and also that the other offices were filled by such good and energetic Masons . The Provincial Grand Lodge of Staffordshire met on Tuesday , the 4 th inst ., at the Borough Hall , Stafford , under circumstances which were peculiarly depressing . The province has not yet recovered from the sorrow into which it was plunged in the early part of the year on the occasion of the death of its energetic and beloved chief , Bro . Col . Foster Gough , Prov , Grand Master , probably the most hard-working and painstaking of the
provincial chiefs who have worked under the English constitution of the ancient and honourable Craft lor very many years . As . yet no successor has been appointed , and Provincial Grand Lodge met under the presidency ol the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Lieutenant-Colonel J . A . Bindley , Past Prov . S . G . W ., in temporary charge of the province . There were about 250 brethren present , and the acting
Prov . Grand Master was assisted in the conduct of the business b y Bro . F . James , M . P ., Past Deputy Grand Master of the province . The ACTING PROV . GRAND MASTER moved the adoption of the accounts tendering to the P . G . Treasurer the thanks of the Provincial Grand Lodo-g for his services , and moving his re-election for another year . These propositions were carried with unanimity . The ACTING PROV . GRAND MASTER , in the course of a few remarks referred to the very excellent muster of the brethren , which was an inconl
testible proof of the healthiness of Freemasonry in the province . The Acting Provincial Grand Master concluded his remarks by proposing , in touching terms , a resolution recording the sentiment of the brethren of the province toward their late chief , copies of which were ordered to be sent to Col . Foster Gough ' s friends . The resolution was seconded , and passed in solemn silence .
The Acting Provincial Grand Master next proceeded to invest the officers of Provincial Grand Lodge for the ensuing year . The appointments had been made from notes which the late Provincial Grand Master had left behind him . The following were the appointments :

C , and the sermon was preached b y the Prov . Grand Chaplain . The brethren then returned to the Borough
Hall , where the Provincial Grand Lodge was resumed . Bro . J . BODENIIAM , P . P . S . G . W ., P . A . G . D . C . England , presented the report of the Committee appointed for the purpose of framing regulations for the establishment and administration of a fund for the relief of local cases of distress within the province , and moved the following resolutions thereon : ( a ) " That the resolution of the Provincial Grand Lodge , passed
on the 29 th May , 1 S 88 , with regard to the disposal of the ' Cartwright Fund' be , and the same is , hereby rescinded . " ( b ) "That a sum of £ 364 3 s . fid . be paid from the funds of Provincial Grand Lodge , together with £ 135 16 s . fid ., the amount of the ' Cartwright Fund , ' making together the sum of £ 500 to the Staffordshire Masonic Charitable Association , to be
invested by the Association , and the annual income thereof paid to its ' B Fund . " ( V ) " That one half the annual working expenses of the Staffordshire Masonic Charitable Association be for the future defrayed by the Provincial Grand Lodge , and that all other payments or subscriptions to the Association out of the funds of Provincial Grand Lodge be discontinued . " The resolutions were carried .
The annual banquet afterwards took place at the Shire Hall , under the presidency of the Acting Deputy Provincial Grand Master , when there was a numerous attendance .

CONSECRATION OF THE CLARENCE MARK LODGE , No . 447 . At the meeting of the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge of Lancashire , which was held in Liverpool on the fith inst ., the P . G . Secretary was able to give some very gratifying statistics as to the development of Mark Masonry in the province , and much point was given to his remarks by a most interesting event which had immediately preceded the meeting of the Provincial
Grand Lodge . A number of Mark brethren in Liverpool , at their head being the popular Mayor of the city ( Bro . James de Bels Adam ) , having been approached by several friends who desired to be advanced to Mark Masonry , had petitioned H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., for permission to found a new Mark lodge . The other petitioners and founders were Bros . G . A . Harradon , E . L . Lewes , William Goodacre , P . G . D . ; Herbert Pretty , and Jas . )•>•

PROVINCIAL GRAND MARK LODGE OF LANCASHIRE .
CONSECRATION OF THE CLARENCE MARK LODGE , No . 447 . At the meeting of the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge of Lancashire , which was held in Liverpool on the fith inst ., the P . G . Secretary was able to give some very gratifying statistics as to the development of Mark Masonry in the province , and much point was given to his remarks by a most interesting event which had immediately preceded the meeting of the Provincial
Grand Lodge . A number of Mark brethren in Liverpool , at their head being the popular Mayor of the city ( Bro . James de Bels Adam ) , having been approached by several friends who desired to be advanced to Mark Masonry , had petitioned H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., for permission to found a new Mark lodge . The other petitioners and founders were Bros . G . A . Harradon , E . L . Lewes , William Goodacre , P . G . D . ; Herbert Pretty , and Jas . )•>•

The prayer of the petitioners had been duly granted , and leave had been given to the petitioners to name their confraternity the Clarence Lodge , for it had been a leading point on the part of the founders to perpetuate in this way the memory of a deeply lamented Prince and brother , and to inarK once more their attachment to the exalted head of their Order .
Bro . the Earl of Lathom , P . G . M ., had graciously agreed to consecrate the new lodge prior to the opening of Provincial Grand Lodge , and a larg _ and notable gathering of Mark Masons graced the ceremony with tncir presence . They were rewarded for their courtesy , for seldom , if ever , iw the solemn ceremony been more perfectly performed than on the occasion > question .
