Centenary Meeting At The Royal Albert Hall.

brethren in charge of its interests it is returned as contributing within a few shillings of £ 5350 . Towards this the very popular Earl Amherst , Deputy Grand Master of England , Prov . Grand Master , lent a most valuable helping hand by sending up a list . of upwards of £ 800 , the Countess Amherst being also entered

as a contributor . There were also many other formidable lists , including that of Bro . J . W . Elvin , of the Graystone Lodge , No . 1915 > Whitstable , for over £ 400 , while Bro . W . Russell , P . A . G . D . C , the Grand Treasurer of the Province , and a member of the Board of Management , with his daughter and two sons ,

make up a strong total of donations amongst them . The EASTERN D IVISION of LANCASHIRE had 179 representatives , who together compiled a total of £ 5253 , which is a hig her total than it has ever raised before , Bro . Col . Le Gendre N . Starkie , P . G . M ., being at the head with a list of £ 540 , while Bro . N . A . Earle , who acted

for Social Lodge , No . 62 , and Lodge of Fortitude , No . 64 , both meeting at Manchester , had the pleasure of raising upwards of £ 400 ; Bro . Sir J . W . Maclure , Bart ., M . P ., being a donor of £ 105 . The WESTERN DIVISION OF LANCASHIRE lumped the lists of its 138 Stewards together into one sum , whieh though

not by any means the largest it has raised , attained to creditable dimensions , the actual figure being £ 4200 . Then follows L EICESTERSHIRE and RUTLAND , which with its modest array of 14 lodges presents a striking contrast to the preceding two provinces in point of strength , but will compare favourably with

them or the rest of the Provinces in the goodwill it uniformally exhibits towards our Institution . In this instance its eight Stewards raised a total of £ 5 85 , of which Bro . Smith as the Provincial representative returned £ 3 QO . LINCOLNSHIRE , with Bro . the Earl of Yarborough , Prov . G . Master , at the head of its

Stewards made up a good round sum of £ 1200 , the number of those who gave their services being 54 , while the Metropolitan Province of MIDDLESEX by the medium of 81 Stewards , among whom were Bro . Lord George Hamilton , Prov . G , Master , sent up over £ 2600 , there being included in this sum not a few capital lists .

We cross yet once again from East to West to the Province of MONMOUTHSHIRE with its muster roll of 11 lodges , and here we find not only a handsome total of donations and subscriptions , amounting to upwards of £ 500 , but likewise a sum of

C ~ nr > r \ ni '/ 1 f * -. * - n T \ f a Df / it-anJ-nfmti f \ - \ C * f \\ Tr \ 1 m / tlllt f C f rifTPf 11 f * r £ 525 paid for a Life Presentation , the two amounts together being £ 1046 . NORFOLK , with its 18 lodges , is entered for £ 813 , the Steward for the whole Province and one of its lodges being responsible for nearly 300 guineas of this sum . NORTHANTS AND HUNTS musters in all some 16 lodges , and

with a contingent of 20 Stewards it raised about the largest total that has ever appeared to its credit , either at ordinary or extraordinary meetings of this kind , namely , £ 1575 . NORTHUMBERLAND ( 30 lodges ) , with a body of five Stewards , figures f ° £ 1393 , of which by far the largest list was that of Bro . Sir

M . White Ridley , BarL , M . P ., who had the pleasure of compiling over £ 1180 . NOTTINGHAMSHIRE ( 18 lodges ) , compiled a total of nearly £ 7 82 , the most conspicuous lists being those of Bro . the Duke of Portland , who has just been appointed Prov . G . Master by his Royal Highness , the M . W . G . Master , for £ 210 ; Bro .

Lieut .-Col . W . Newton , P . G . D ., Deputy Prov . G . Master , for £ 259 and upwards . From OXFORDSHIRE , with only a dozen lodges , not much could be expected . In February , Bro . the Earl of Jersey , its Prov . G . Master , presided at the Festival in

aid of the Benevolent Institution , and , as a matter of course , it did its utmost to support his lordship ' s Chairmanship . Last month it helped the Girls' School , and therefore , the total is comparatively a small one , amounting to less than £ 240 . But it is to the credit of the Province that , after

Centenary Meeting At The Royal Albert Hall.

the calls made upon it during the current year , it should have been still able to compile so fair a sum . SHROPSHIRE which has the same number of lodges as Oxon ., was represented by 52 brethren , who compiled a total of £ 1173 , the number of those who helped to obtain this handsome amount

being 52 . In SOMERSETSHIRE , which was represented by 16 Stewards , the total of their lists reached £ 1108 , while SOUTH WALES , EASTERN DIVISION , under Bro . Lord Llangattock , Prov . G . M ., returns within a fraction of £ o " 59 ; its Western neighbour , which has but about half the number of lodges

possessed by South Wales East , returning a total of no more than £ 144 . STAFFORDSHIRE , which has a total muster of 32 lodges sent up a large force of 191 Stewards who had the satisfaction of raising donations and subscriptions which amounted to £ 3550 , Bro . Lord Burton , S . G . W . of the year , who is already a

Patron , sending a further . 100 Guineas . This , we imagine , is about the highest return made from this Province and reflects great credit on those who took part in the work , and at the same time , must be extremely gratifying to Bro . the Earl of Dartmouth , who headed the

contingent of Stewards . SUFFOLK ( 22 lodges ) is a consistent and generous supporter of all our Charitable Institutions , and never fails to show to conspicuous advantage on these special occasions . On the ioth instant its band of 3 6 Stewards , headed by Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn , P . G . C , D . P . G M ., succeeded in

raising £ 1202 , and , as there appear to be several lists still outstanding , this total cannot as yet be looked upon as final . SURREY ( 43 lodges ) has always shown up well at these gatherings , its appearance on Friday last , when it mustered in all nearly 90 Stewards , being of the most successful nature , the

sum they together succeeded in raising being £ 3630 . SUSSEX , with the smaller number of 32 lodges , furnished a larger Board of Stewards than its immediate neighbour of Surrey , the brethren and lodges who took part in the proceedings being 128 , while the amount obtained by their united efforts was fractionally short of £ 2545 .

We come next to the great Midland Province of WARWICKSHIRE , which has 31 lodges , has been under the rule of Bro . -Lord Leigh ever since 18 52 , and has on special occasions exhibited a great interest in these gatherings . On one or two previous occasions it has accumulated sums amounting to , or

in excess of ,. £ 2000 , but last week it very largely surpassed all its previous efforts , and with Lord Leigh to head the array of 243 Stewards , it did itself the greatest honour by raising the formidable total of £ 4769 , several of its lodges , such as St .

Paul ' s , No . 43 ; Athol , No . 74 ; the Lodge oi Light , No . 468 ; the Leigh Rifle Volunteers , No . 88 7 ; and several others , but more particularly the Lodge of Israel , No . 1474 , and Charity , No . 1551 , sending up long lists of Stewards , who , to judge

trom the Returns they made , must have worked exceedingly well . The biggest list in the Province was that of Bro . M . H . Wood , who had the pleasure of compiling a total of £ i 2 '> o .

WILTSHIRE , which , with its 12 lodges , has Bro . the Earl of Radnor to preside over its fortunes as Provincial Grand Master , raised a total of £ 525 , the result of the labours of some 10 Stewards , of whom the Prov . G . M . was one and his

son — Bro . Viscount Folkestone , M . P ., —another . The 14 lodges of WORCESTERSHIRE were represented by a body of 48 Stewards , the total of whose lists was set down in one sum of £ 1344 . In this case , also , as in Warwickshire , sundry of the

contributing lodges , such as the Lechmere Volunteers , No . 1874 , the Masefield , rVo . 2034 i the Godson , No . 2385 ; and the . Arter , No . 2654 ; were represented by several brethren , and in the majority of cases to capital purpose . There remain the two
