Centenary Meeting At The Royal Albert Hall.

lodges in London were represented by at least one , if not more than one , Steward , and Bro . McLeod had thc satisfaction of proclaiming that the representatives of these lodges and of very many Royal Arch chapters , together with the formidable array of Unattached Brethren—the whole body numbering about 1300

Stewards—had , by dint of the very great exertions they had put forth , succeeded in raising the splendid total of £ 4 8 , 000 . There are occasions innumerable in the records , year by year , of our Masonic Festivals on which London has won for itself immense kudos , but eve ;* the very few who may be jealous of its fame in

this sphere of Masonic duty will hardly be prepared to deny that whether we have regard to the very large proportion of the lodges that took part in the Festival ; to tho unusually strong force of ladies and brethren who volunteered their services as Stewards ; or to the huge sum which they had the good fortune

to accumulate , such a Return as this must , in the nature of things , reflect the greatest honour conceivable upon thc brethren of the Metropolis . To give an adequate idea of thc constituent parts of this huge sum , by what Stewards representing what lodges or chapters or acting independently it was raised , is out of

the question , alter the lapse of so short an interval since the Festival was held ; but there are certain lists , or combinations of lists , to which it would be an act of great injustice not to refer . A very prominent case in point is that of the I louse Committee of the Roval Masonic Institution for Girls . The members of this

Committee—which , by thc way , includes such distinguished brethren as Bros . Sir J . B . Monckton , Robert Grey , Alderman Sir Reginald Hanson , Bart ., M . P . —combined together , and handed over a total of £ 1 155 . But the point upon which we are desirous of laying such stress is not so much the bigness of

lhe sum as the evidence it furnishes of the friendly and harmonious relations existing between the authorities of thc two Institutions . The other day , Bro . J . M . McLeod , Secretary of the Boys' School , announced , at the consecration of the Old Masonians' Lodge , No . 2700 , that it was his intention to

represent that lodge at the 110 th Anniversary Festival in behalf of the Girls' School in May last , and by his individual exertions he succeeded in raising for "Our Girls " tbe handsome total of £ 24 6 15 s . Last week thc House Committee of that Institution , realising not merely the service

thus rendered , but more especially the kindly spirit in which the act was done , reciprocated the feeling which had prompted Bro . McLeod to do this thing , and putting themselves together , not only as a body of experienced advisers and workers , ready to suggest or do whatever might be required of them , but

also as a Board of Stewards on a limited scale , returned thc very handsome amount of £ 1155 as already mentioned . But this was not the very highest total included in the London Returns . Bro . Daniel Meyer , W . M . of thc Royal Naval Lodge , No . 59—which , as recorded in thc History of the Institution , took

a prominent part in founding , in 180 S , a Boys' Charity , which a few years later was amalgamated with the original , or " Ancient " Charity—who was assisted in his labours by other members of his lodge , is entered for £ 1260 , while Bro . Oscar Philippe , who was an L ' nattached Steward , and had , therefore , only his personal

friends lo assist him in his canvass , had thc satisfaction of raising precisely the same amount . Bros . E . F . Cinder and T . II . Beach , as joint representatives of the City of Westminster Lodge , No .

1563 , compiled a total of £ 820 14 s . 6 d . ; Bro . J homas henn , P . G . W ., and Past President of the Board of General Purposes , being responsible , as representing United Lodge of Prudence , No . 83 , for £ 530 8 s ., Bro . W . II . Hubbert , who is a well-

known participator in Festival celebrations , both ordinary and special , represented on this occasion the Tredegar Lodge , No . 1625 , and had the pleasure of compiling a total of £ 403 4 s . ; Bros . C . R . Higgins and J . F . Oates , who gave their services as Stewards for the Capper Lodge , No . 1076 , between them

raised the sum ol £ 321 6 s ., while Bro . VV . Briggs , whose name we have so often met with in the Festival Returns from Cambridgeshire , was on the ioth instant representative of the Strong Man Lodge , No . 45 , and is included as having raised a sum of £ 320 15 s . 6 d . Bro . Alderman A . J . Newton , of the Alfred

Newton Lodge , No . 26 S 6 , is entered for £ 275 , the following being a further list , arranged in the numerical order of the lodges for whom they acted , of those who also did yeoman service on the occasion , namely ; Bro . E . Stimson , representing the Kent Lodge , No . 15 , £ 262 ios . ; Bro . G . T . Kinipple , of " the Lodge of

Prosperity , No . 65 , who returned £ 250 ; Bro . William Baker , of the Lion and Lamb Lodge , No . 192—which rendered valuable assistance in founding the Institution—who raised £ 201 12 s . ; Bro . B . Groner , of the Cripplegate Lodge , £ 268 16 s . ; and Bro . II . E . Diamond , of the Anchor Lodge , No . 1704 , who compiled

a list of £ 236 5 s . I he next name we come to is that of Bro . R . D . Cummings , who has manifested at all times a deep interest in all our Institutions , and who had thc pleasure on this occasion of raising £ 224 , while Bros . VV . G . Adcock and VV . J Reynolds , of thc Regent ' s Park Lodge , No . 2202 , together made up

an amount of £ 231 . Bro . VV . Vincent , P . M . of the Chough Lodge , No . 2264 , raised the handsome total of £ 262 lo . ' ., and Bro . John Almond , of the Old Boys' Lodge , No . 2500 , £ 210 . Bro . VV . Blanco White , whose name must also be familiar to all students of our Masonic Festival literature , is

entered for £ 257 5 s ., and Bro . VV . Thomas , of the Lodge of Fellowship , No . 2535 , for £ 206 17 s . There remain two other brethren to whom we are desirous of referring , namely , Bro . R . II . Nichols , who gave his services as Steward of Hugh Owen

Lodge , Xo . 2593 , and compiled a total of £ 250 , and Bro . A . II . Bevan , Unattached , who has many times served as Steward for the Fricnds-in-Council and other lodges , who figures for £ 26 7 ios .

But these are not the onl y features in the London Returns that we are desirous of callinir attention to . There are not a few

of thc lodges which preferred being represented by a number of their members , and of these thc first in numerical order is United Mariners Lodge , No . 30 , to which Bro . Burwood and those who helped him in founding the Institution belonged . This lodge had six Stewards , and , as far as we know at present ,

subscribed over ^ , 120 . Royal Naval Lodge , No . 59 , which stood to the Daniel Charity ( Moderns ) in the same relation as United Mariners did lo the Burwood Charily , had just a dozen members to represent it , and these , by lhe hands of Bro . Daniel Meyer , W . M .. subscribed £ 1260 . Vitruvian , No . 87—an Ancient

lodge—had live Stewards ; Old Concord Lodge , No . 172 , nine Stewards '; Wellington Lodge , No . 54 8 , live Stewards ; Camden Lodge , No . 704 , from which at present there appears lo have been no Return , 11 Stewards ; the Lily Lodge of Richmond , No . 822 , eight Stewards ; Lodge Tempcrance-in-thc-Easl , No .

No . 1769 , seven Stewards ; King Solomon Lodge , No . 2029 , six Stewards ; the Lombardian , No . 234 8 , live Stewards ; the Avondale , No . 2395 , II Stewards ; and the Guardian Lodge , No . 2625 , six Stewards . There were also some -rood individual lists sent
