We publish elsewhere the circular letter which b y csmmand of the M . W . G . Master the Grand Secretary has addressed to Masters of lodges on the subject of thc proposed meeting in the Royal Albert Hall on Monday , the 14 th June , for the purpose of voting an address of congratulation to her Majesty the Queen
Masonic Notes.
on the completion of the Coth year of her reign . 1 he most material points in this letter were announced in these columns in our issue of thc ist instant , but in general terms only ; the circular now furnishes thc necessary details as lo thc arrangements that have been made . » * #
Thc meeting will be held under the presidency ol H . R . H . the M . W . Grand Master , and in accordance with l he precedent of 1 S 87 , when the brethren met in the same Hall for the purpose of voting a similar Address in respect of her Majesty's Jubilee ; with this difference ,
however , that , instead of the whole proceeds being assigned to the Masonic Charitable Institutions , onehalf will be distributed amongst them , and the other half handed over to the Prince of Wales's Hospital Fund for London . The fee for admission will be , as then , one guinea , while the number of tickets available
for each lodge is restricted to five . Application must be made for tickets to thc Grand Secretary by Jfasters of lodges before the 20 th May instant , and , if more than five are wanted , the extra number must be stated , so that any surplus arising from lodges not requiring the full number of five may be distributed pro raid .
* The meeting will not be a Grand Lodge , but an assembly of thc brethren and the arrangements a ' s to clothing , & c , will be the same as in 1 SS 7 . Moreover
it is , we are told , the opinion of his Royal Highness the M . W . G . Master that as the address to be voted on this occasion must be considered as emanating from the whole body of English Freemasons , local addresses will be both unnecessary and inexpedient .
* * Thc M . W . G . Master has further approved of a Special Jewel being worn by every Freemason who is a subscribing member of a lodge under the Grand Lodge of England on the 20 th June , 18 97 , when her
Majesty will complete the Coth year of her reign , and by way of commemorating the event , brevet rank as Grand Officers will be conferred on distinguished brethren , the number of such being limited to 60 , of whom 25 will be chosen from the lodges in London , 25 from the Provinces , and 10 from Abroad .
* * * The reception and banquet by the Empire Lodge , No . 2108 , to our Colonial brethren who will visit this country during the approaching Jubilee festivities gives promise of being one of the most representative
gatherings of the Cralt ever held in England or elsewhere . In addition to the Earl of Lathom , Pro Grand Master , who has promised to attend should his official duties as Lord Chamberlain permit , acceptances have been received from Earl Amherst , Deputy G . Master ;
thc Right Hon . Chief Justice S . Way , M . W . G . Master of South Australia ; the Hon . Thomas Playford , Sir Malcolm Fraser , and the Hon . W . P . Reeves , Agents General respectively for South Australia , Western
Australia , and New Zealand ; Sir Quayle Jones , of Sierra Leone ; the Venerable Archdeacon Sinclair , Past Grand Chaplain ; Bro . Alderman W . Vaughan Morgan , Grand Treasurer ; and other brethren , Present or Past Grand Officers of England .
* * As already announced in our columns , the gathering will be held at thc Hotel Cecil , on the evening of the 14 th June , after the meeting in the Royal Albert Hall . Those Indian and Colonial brethren who may be
desirous of being present on the occasion are referred to Bro . Lennox Browne , Past Dep . G . D . C , the principal founder , P . M . and present Secretary of the Empire Lodge , who is in charge of thc arrangements , and will be happy to furnish any information that may be desired . Bro . Browne's address is 15 , Mansfield-street , W .
^^ m * * * We have not yet heard of thc Anglo-American Lodge , No . 2191 , having arranged any plans for the coming season ; but , as there is to be a very large influx of American visitors during Jubilee time , and as it is certain that among them will be many who
hold high rank in their several Grand Lodges , we shall doubtless have news sooner or later of this distinguished and popular lodge being prepared to do its part loyally towards thc entertainment of the American brethren . The Anglo-American was founded with the
idea of being a lodge of welcome to Masons from the United States , and on several occasions it has had for its guests brethren of the very highest distinction , such as the late Bro . McCalla , Past Grand Master of Pennsylvania ; Bro . General Shryock , Grand Master of Maryland and others . Columbia Lodge , No . 2397
Masonic Notes.
was also founded on similar lines , and wc feel sure will not be behindhand in showing due ; courtesy lo American Masonic visitors .
* * It was a graceful act on the part of the Indefatigable Lodge , No . 237 , when it organised a special meeting for thc entertainment of those Masonic members of thc National Union of Teachers who were present at the annual conference of that body in Swansea last
month . Moreover , it was not only a graceful act , but a most successful one , and will always be remembered as one of the most pleasant in thc annals of the lodge . The W . Masters of the other two Swansea Lodgesthe Talbot , No . 1323 , and the Caradoc , No . 1573—as well as those of five of the Cardiff Lodges—thc
Glamorgan , No . 3 6 , the Bute , No . 060 , the Tennant , No . 1992 , thc Duke of York , No . 2423 , and the Llangattock , No . 2547—were present to assist in doing honour to the occasion , and among the more distinguished brethren were Bros . Marmaduke Tennant , P . A . G . D . C , D . P . G . M . ; the Earl of Jersey , Prov .
G . M . Oxfordshire , who is a member of No . 237 ; Sir J . Jones Jenkins , M . P ., a P . M . of the Talbot , and Past Prov . J . G . W . ; Sir J . T . Llewellyn , Bart ., M . P ., a former member of No . 237 , who is about to rejoin it ; the Prov . Grand Secretary ( Bro . W . Whittington ); D . Brymnor Jones , Q . C , M . P .,
of the Kaisar-i-Hind Lodge , No . 1724 , and Bro . E . Gray , M . P . The National Union of Teachers furnished 45 and reciprocated the kindness and hospitality they had received by presenting Bro . Herbert Davies , W . M ., No . 237 , with a cheque for 10 guineas to place on his list as Steward for the Girls ' School
Festival on Wednesday . Evidently , in its courtesies and hospitality to brethren who visit Swansea , Indefatigable Lodge , No . 237 , is in every way worthy of its name , and as one of the speakers at the meeting very kindly remarked , as efficient in the discharge of its lodge duties as it is indefatigable .
* * * The Masonic service to commemorate the Record Reign of her Majesty the Queen , which , as we have before announced , will be held in the Collegiate Church of St . Saviour ' s , Southwark , on Ascension Day ( Thursday , the 27 th instant ) , and w ' . iich will be
attended by Bro . the Earl of Lathom , Pro G . Master , bids fair to prove one of the most interesting of the Masonic functions arranged in connection with the celebration of the Queen ' s Diamond Jubilee . The sermon will be preached by Bro . the Very Rev . Dr
Hole , Dean of Rochester , G . Chaplain , and invitations have already been sent out to Grand Officers to attend his lordship on the occasion . Applications for tickets to be present must be addressed to the Grand Secretary by to-morrow ( Saturday ) , and full particulars will then be forwarded to applicants with the tickets .
* * The distribution of prizes to the successful pupils of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , which always forms the inaugural part of the Anniversary Festival , took place at the School , Battersea Rise , on Monday afternoon . The prizes were given away by Lady
Llangattock , who was supported by her husband , the Festival Chairman of the year , and it will be gathered from thc speeches made by both Lady and Lord Llangattock that they were delighted with everything they saw and heard . No greater tribute could be paid to the excellence of our Girls' School than is to be
found in the remarks they both made as to the manner in which thc School is conducted ; the uniform kindness shown by the Head Governess and her staff and the Matron and others to thc children ; thc care they take of them , and the feelings of affection with which the children themselves regard those in authority over them . Thc School has always acquitted itself well in
thc public examinations for which its pupils have been entered , but we are inclined to think the testimony of Lord and Lady Llangattock as to the manner in which the Institution is managed and the happy relations existing between the teachers and the taught will be in the highest degree gratifying to the friends of the Institution .
* * * It is worthy of mention that previous to the Festival on Wednesday , Lord Llangattock held a kind of levee at which the Stewards from his Province of South Wales ( Eastern Division ) , and those from the Province of Monmouthshire , within the confines of
which he resides , were successively presented to his lordship and wers warmly thanked by him both for their devotion to the interests of the School and their desire to promote its welfare as well as for the regard they had always shown to him personally and their efforts to ensure the success of his Chairmanship ,
