pleased to be the means of conveying this handsome present lo you , which , you will shortly be entitled to wear by the unanimous vote of the Grand Mark Lodge of England . The Pro Grand Master having handed over thc regalia and attached the jewel ,
Bro . PARKK said he found difficulty adequately to express his r . ense of the kindness of his brethren in making him that handsome presentation , and declared that ils value would be enhanced by the fact that he had received it at the hands of the M . W . the Pro Grand Master . He would
accept it as a token of the esteem of his brethren , would wear it with pride and gratification , and would never put on that jewel without being reminded of their goodness towards him , and stimulated , if possible , to still greater efforts in the interest of the Province of West Yorkshire and the support of the Order of Mark Master Masons .
The regalia , which it may be mentioned was the best of its kind , was accompanied by an iS-carat magnificent G . Treasurer ' s jewel . This incident ended , Bro . H . Beaumont , P . M ., was unanimously elected Prov . G . Treasurer .
The outgoing officers having approached and given up their emblems of office , the Prov . G . Master proceeded to appoint and invest the Prov . Grand Officers for the year as follows : Bro . R . Hodgson , P . M . 58 , Vice-Chairman of the ") p cr w

Yorkshire , your Prov . Grand Master has asked me to address a few words to you . I find a little difficulty in doing this , as you appear to be so harmonious and so successful a province . It is very clear to me that you have great confidence in your Prov . Grand Master , and that you show it by at all times supporting him and helping him to maintain , as he so ably does , the honour of this Degree and the pres'ige of the province to which you
belong ; I am delighted lo see so large and so influential a gathering , and I thank you , in the name of the Grand Lodge of England , for the support which you give to our Order . Brethren , when there is no fault to find , there is very little to say , and that is the condition of affairs with you . I would impress upon you , however , the necessity of care in the admission of new members into your lodges ; be assured first that they are good , worthy , and
true . They must , of course , be Craft Masons , and as Craft Masons you can gauge what they are . If they are unsuitable , and you admit them , then should unpleasantness occur , the fault is your own . I see no signs of this amongst you , and I most sincerely congratulate you upon the happiness you enjoy and the harmony which characterises your lodges . It is a real
pleasure to me to come down and see a gathering like this , and if I can render you assistance by repeating my visit , I shall be glad upon some suitable occasion to come amongst you again . In my own name and that of the Grand Officers who accompany me , I thank you for your salutation and for the heartiness of your reception .
The report of the West Yorkshire Charity Committee having next been read , Bro . G . H . PARKE , the Chairman , moved its adoption . The Vice-Chairman , Bro . RICHARD HODGSON in seconding , said he thought there was nothing in the report but what tended to our credit ; that we had taken up the challenge of our M . W . Pro G . Master when he last visited us , and as his presence stimulated us then to exertion on behalf of the Mark Benevolent Fund so he believed would his coming on this occasion have a similar encouraging effect .
The M . W . Pro G . Master then retired from the lodge accompanied by the Officers of the Grand Lodge . A hearty vote of thanks to Bro . Rowbotham , W . M ., and the brethren of Britannia Lodge , Shellield , for their excellent arrangements , moved by the Dep . Prov . G . M ., Bro . J BARKER , and carried by acclamation , finished the business , and Prov . Grand Lodge was closed .
The banquet which followed took place in the dinmg-hall of the lodge . The tables were beautifully decorated with flowers , and the scene was rendered more brilliant by the collars and jewels of the guests . Upwards of So brethren sat down , thc Prov . Grand Master presiding . On his right were Lord Huston and the visiting Grand Officers , and on his left the Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the W . M . and Past Masters of Britannia Lodge .
An excellent repast was sent up by Mrs . Turner , the wife of the Hallkeeper , and it was served , as is usual at Sheffield , by a band of neat-handed Phyllises , whose courtesy and rapidity left nothing to be desired . After the toasts of " The Queen " and " The Prince of Wales , M . W . G , Master , " had been given and honoured ,
Bro . MASON , the Chairman , proposed " The Rl . Hon . the Earl of Euston , M . W . Pro G . M . ; the Ri ght Hon . Viscount Dungarvan , R . W . Dep . G . M . ; and the Ofiicers cf Grand Mark Lodge . " He said visits like that tended undoubtedly to bind the Mark Masons together ; that West Yorkshire had been specially favoured , as that was thc second time the Earl of Euston had
come amongst them , and that it was very gratifying to witness the interest which his lordship took in thc Order , of which he was practically the working head . They were equally gratified to have a visit from Bro . Matier , the Grand Secretary , and the other Grand Officers , and he called upon his brethren to show , by the reception of the toast , how genuinely glad they were to see them .
Provincial Grand Mark Lodge Of West Yorkshire.
This the brethren did unmistakably , and when the Pro G . M . rose hc
and his ollicers were enthusiastically received . Lord EUSTON said that it had been a great gratification to come down to West Yorkshire , and to see for himself how its affairs were administered . The loyalty the brethren had shown to their Prov . Grand Master in July of last year prepared him somewhat for what he had witnessed that day , and
that Bro . Mason was to be congratulated upon the organisation which existed and the heartiness which characterised all their proceedings . He thanked them one and all for the kindness they had manifested , and for the hospitality and welcome which they had extended to him and those who accompanied him .
" The Health of the Prov . G . Master , Bro . C . L . Mason , " was proposed by the PRO G . MASTKR in most courteous terms . Bro . C . L . MASON in reply , after giving a brief resume of his administration , expressed the pleasure he felt when he was able to say that the lodges were working harmoniously and happily , and that they were actuated by the one idea how best to promote the welfare of the Order .
Other toasts followed , of which " The Mark Benevolent Fund , " was one This proposed by Bro . G . H . PARKE , was responded to by Bro . C . F MATIER , who declared that West Yorkshire gave him nothing to complain about and that as someone had said ,
The days seem long and the nights fall flat When you have nothing to grumble at . With respect to the Charity attached to the Mark , they in West Yorkshire had unquestionably beaten previous records . He hoped , however , to live to see West Yorkshire ' s total exceeded , and should the Pro Grand Master take the chair again—and he believed he would—might he have the gratification of seeing this flourishing province using its best efforts to make the result still greater than before .
Songs by Bro . W . Foxon , who has so worthily won a musical reputation in Sheffield , by Bro . W . S . Milligan , and others , were interspersed . To the toast of " The Visitors , " Bros . Maj . WOODALL , W . H . BRITTAIN and ENSOR DRURY replied ; whilst to that of " The Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge , " the response came from Bro . T . ROWBOTHAM , W . M . of Britannia , who had that day received the collar of Prov . G . Steward .
1 he arrangements were excellent , and everything passed off most satisfactorily , for which condition of things the brethren of Britannia Lodge , and notably , Bro . H . J . Garnett , deserve unstinted praise . On the following day , the Prov . Grand Secretary having previously communicated with Messrs . Rodgers and Sons , a visit was paid by the Earl of Euston and his parly to the world-famed cutlery works of this eminent firm . Here they were received most courteously by Mr .
Donaldson , the manager , who conducted them through the show rooms , factories , and shops , and pointed out in a most interesting manner the various processes of forging , grinding , and polishing . The immense stores of ivory were also visited , and the working up of this material into razor and knife handles was illustrated . All expressed themselves much gratified with viewing the many interesting processes , and will long remember their morning call at the cutlery works and the evident desire upon the part of the manager to make their inspection instructive .
