The lodge was opened by the W . M ., and the minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed , when a ballot was taken for Bro . H . Horton , 1 S 9 , as a joining member , and was unanimously elected . 'The brethren then received Bro . R . C . Else , D . P . G . M ., with full Masonic honours . Bro . J . G . Wilton , S . W ., was then presented to the W . M ., to receive the benefit of installation as W . Master for the ensuing

year . The W . M . expressed the pleasure he had in receiving the son of their late respected Bro . Wilton , P . M ., for the benefit of installation . This ancient ceremony was then ably and impressively performed by the W . M ., Bro . Gregory , assisted by Bro . Ashley , P . M . The W . M ., Bro . Wilton , then returned thanks for installing him in the chair of K . S ., and proceeded to invest his officers for the ensuing

year—Bros . VV . B . Gregory , I . P . M . ; Robinson , S . W . ; Boutche , J . W . ; T . P . Ashley , P . M ., Treas . ; C . VV . Radway , P . M ., Sec . ; Baldwin , S . D . ; Gardiner , J . D . ; Wilkinson , P . M ., D . C ; Van Praag , I . G . ; Curd and Cover , Stwds . ; and Bigvvood , Tyler . Bro . Rubie then presented ^ to the I . P . M ., Bro . Gregory , a Past Master's jewel , which had been unanimously voted to him

by the brethren at the last regular meeting , for the excellent and efficient manner he had performed his duties during his year of office . Bro . Gregory thanked Bro . Rubie and the brethren for their kindness in presenting him with the jewel . A vote of thanks was then unanimously passed to the Deputy Prov . G . Master , Bro . Else , for his kind attendance that evening , especially as he was in very indifferent

health , who , in replying , expressed the pleasure he had in being present at the installation meeting of this ancient lodge , and witnessing the very excellent and impressive manner the ceremony had been performed by the Installing Master . Bros . Gould , W . M . 53 ; Wadoux , W . M . 906 ; and Perrett , W . M . 1222 , then expressed on behalf of their respective lodges their gratification at being present , and

trusted the W . M . would have a very successful year of office . The brethren then adjourned to the Grand Pump Room Hotel , and sat down to the number of 60 to an excellent banquet , under the presidency of the W . M . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , " 'The Health of the Worshipful Master" was proposed by Bro . Ashley ,

P . M ., who , in a most appropriate and graceful speech alluded to the pleasure it gave him in proposing the health of their W . M ., Bro . Wilton , whom he had known from a boy , and especially as the eldest son of their late and esteemed Bro . Wilton , P . M ., and had no doubt the son would worthily follow in the steps of his late respected father .

I he toast having been received with enthusiasm , was responded to by the W . M . Bro . Radway , P . M ., then proposed in an eloquent speech "The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Master , Bro . Gregory , " who he said had performed his duties during his year of office in such an excellent and courteous manner . Bro . Gregory suitably responded , thanking the officers and brethren for the very kind and ready way they had

always supported him . The toasts of "The Officers ; " "The Visiting Brethren ; " and the Tyler were given and responded to , when a vote of thanks to Bro . Radway , P . M ., for accomodating and providing them with such an excellent repast brought a most enjoyable evening to a close . Bro . Foote presided at the piano , and several excellent songs were rendered by the brethren during the evening .

NORTH WOOLWICH . Henley Lodge ( No . 1472 ) . —The election meeting of the above powerful lodge was held on Tuesday , the 4 th inst , at the Three Crowns , Bro . C . H . Canning , W . Hazlewood , Webb , and Stamford were raised to the Sublime Degree . Bro . Wood , S . W ., was then unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year , and returned thanks . Bro . Dr . Vance was re-elected Treasurer , and for past services as Treasurer during the last six years was voted a

1 reasurer ' s jewel of the value of live guineas , for which he returned thanks . Bro . Gaskell , P . VL , late of 1076 , was re-elected Tyler , and Bros . Turvey and Steers were elected ( the first-named for the third time ) Auditors . It was then unanimously resolved that a Past Master ' s jewel of the value ol" 10 guineas should be presented to Bro . Canning , W . M ., for his services to the lodge during his year of office , and , as a further mark of ' the esteem of the brethren , he was voted a Past Master ' s collar and pendant , for

which he returned thanks . It was also voted that 10 guineas be given to his list as Steward at the forthcoming Festival of the Benevolent Institution , and the sum of £ 50 was added to it by the members present . 'The Audit meeting and dinner was appointed for the following 'Tuesday , and then the lodge was closed . The brethren then dined , and afterwards , with toast and song , enjoyed the few remaining hours of the evening" .

SEAFORTH . Skelmersdale Lodge ( No . 1380 ) . — The annual installation meeting' of the above lodge , of which the Right Hon . the Karl of Lathom , Prov . Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master of England , was the first VV . Master , and is still a member , took place on the 2 nd inst ., at Lathom Hall , when Bro . P . Sword , the W . M .

elect , was installed in the principal chair of the lodge by Bro . P . Blackburn , D . C . The newly-installed Master then invested his officers as follows : Bros . J . Gregson , I . P . M . ; J . 'The installation ceremony was performed by Bro . VV . Staniland , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., and was attended by a large number of the members of the lodge , and

I . for Girls , and trusted that the brethren of the province would do their best to support the Prov . Grand Master . Bro . Simmonds , Master elect , we are pleased to state will represent the lodge at the Festival , and has already received

numerous contributions to his list . The Secretary also read a circular from Bro . Langton , Honorary Secretary to the Provisional Committee of the R . M . Institution for Boys respecting a scheme to indemnify Bro . !•' . Binckes on his retiring-from the position of Secretary to that Institution . Bro . Capt . Walls gave a notice of motion that the sum of £ 2 10 s . be voted to the fund as suggested by the circular . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned

to refreshment . It being an off night only a few toasts were proposed , but the VV . M ., with characteristic thoughtfulness , had provided an excellent musical programme , in which Bros . J . E . Ruffle , E . Hall , T . Middleweek , J . Hall , VV . J . Porter , and Mr . H . Middleton took part . The brethren were exceedingly delighted with this unexpected and pleasurable interlude . M ., that the lodge vote the sum of £ 2 2 s . to the R . M . B . Institution . Carried . A circular from Bro . J . D . Langton , Hon . Sec . Provisional Management Committee R . M . I , for Boys was read , he proposed to grant £ 250

per annum as retiring allowance to Bro . Binckes , by the creation of a Pension Indemnity Fund Royal Masonic Institution for p oys , and asking for support of the lodge to same . After a discussion , it was proposed by Bro . E . Dorling , P . M ., seconded by Bro . H . Finer , P . M ., and carried unanimously , that the lodge do support the scheme for the Pension Indemnity Fund and subscribes the sum at £ 2 10 s . asked for . 'The Secretary was instructed to write

Bro . Langton to sameeffect . The W . M ., amidst the acclamation of the brethren , announced Bros . Loonies , Wright , and Kimbell had each promised the sum of £ 2 2 s . to the Arnold Lodge Provincial Lodge Reception Fund , _ thus bringing up the fund to date to £ 70 7 s . The question of subscribing to decoration of Centenary Hall of the R . M . I , for Girls was brought before the lodge , but not entertained . 'The VV . M . called attention of the brethren to the proposal to found a Masonic Charities Association in connection with

the lodge , and asked for their support . After other routine business had been transacted , the lodge was closed .

Kennington Chapter ( No . 1381 ) . — This popular and prosperous transpontine chapter met at the I lorns Tavern , Kennington Park , on the 6 th instant , when there were present among" others , Comps . George Gardner , M . E . Z . ; VV . VV . Westley , TL ; II . Salter , J . ; Henry Higgins , S . E . ; Dowling , S . N . ; George Everett , P . Z ., Treas . ; H . J . Lardner , P . Z ., P . P . G . Std . Br . Surrey ,

acting P . S . ; Sims , 1 st A . Soj . ; VV . Smith , 2 nd A . Soj . ; Capt . T . C Walls , P . P . G . P . S . Middx ., P . Z . ; C VV . Kohlev , P . Z . ; and C . Ayling , P . Z . The minutes of the previous convocation having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Bro . R . J . Brinkley , 1441 , and it being unanimous , he was , by the ' First Principal ' s permission , impressively exalted by

A late distressed member of the chapter having been relieved with a donation from the funds , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet , which was served as usual by Comp . Buxton , in an excellent manner . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts were

given . " The Health of the M . E . Z . " was given by the I . P . Z . In the course of his remarks he said that as an exaltee of the Kennington Chapter , their First Principal held a high place in the esteem of ever } ' member of it . He had worked through the various offices , and had introduced several worthy brethren into the chapter , and in other ways had

shown the most lively interest in the well-being of the chapter . The M . E . Z ., having briefly replied , then gave " The Second and Third Principals , " which was duly honoured . Comps . Westley and Salter having acknowledged the compliment , "The Health of the Exaltee" was given in most fluent terms by the M . E . Z . Comp . Brinkley responded to this toast in a ^ speech of

some merit . "The Health of the Visitors" followed , ' and that toast was duly honoured and acknowledged . In giving the toast of " The Past Principals , " the M . E . Z . spoke of those companions in the highest terms of commendation . He said that they had seen how well Comp . Ayling , P . Z ., had peiformedthe ceremony of exaltation

that evening , and how well the work of Principal Sojourner had been carried out by Comp . Lardner , P . Z ., in the absence of Comp . Austin . He should couple the name of Comp . Lardner , I . P . Z ., with the toast . The I . P . Z . having responded , "The Health of the Treasurer and Scribe E . " followed . The M . E . Z . said that

the exertions of Comps . Everett and Higgins had succeeded in placing the Kennington Chapter upon a pinnacle of financial prosperity and success . Comps . Everett and Higgins having replied , the toast of "The Officers , " coupled with the names of Comps . Dowling and Sims , terminated the proceedings .

Islington Chapter ( No . 1471 ) . —A convocation of this flourishing chapter was held on Wednesday , the 29 th ult ., at the Cock Tavern , Highbury . This chapter has recently made rapid strides , having been largely recruited by numerous exaltees and joining - members , and at the meeting under notice further additions were made to the numbers , three candidates presenting themselves for

exaltation , and three companions being received as joining members . The chapter was opened by Comp . Wm . Shurmur , M . E . Z ., supported by Comps C . G . Sparrow , P . Z ., acting H . ; jas . M . W ., was then presented to the W . M ., to receive the benefit of installation as W . Master for the ensuing

year . The W . M . expressed the pleasure he had in receiving the son of their late respected Bro . Wilton , P . M ., for the benefit of installation . This ancient ceremony was then ably and impressively performed by the W . M ., Bro . Gregory , assisted by Bro . Ashley , P . M . The W . M ., Bro . Wilton , then returned thanks for installing him in the chair of K . S ., and proceeded to invest his officers for the ensuing

Gregory , a Past Master's jewel , which had been unanimously voted to him

by the brethren at the last regular meeting , for the excellent and efficient manner he had performed his duties during his year of office . Bro . Gregory thanked Bro . Rubie and the brethren for their kindness in presenting him with the jewel . A vote of thanks was then unanimously passed to the Deputy Prov . G . Master , Bro . Else , for his kind attendance that evening , especially as he was in very indifferent

health , who , in replying , expressed the pleasure he had in being present at the installation meeting of this ancient lodge , and witnessing the very excellent and impressive manner the ceremony had been performed by the Installing Master . Bros . Gould , W . M . 53 ; Wadoux , W . M . 906 ; and Perrett , W . M . 1222 , then expressed on behalf of their respective lodges their gratification at being present , and

trusted the W . M . would have a very successful year of office . The brethren then adjourned to the Grand Pump Room Hotel , and sat down to the number of 60 to an excellent banquet , under the presidency of the W . M . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , " 'The Health of the Worshipful Master" was proposed by Bro . Ashley ,

P . M ., who , in a most appropriate and graceful speech alluded to the pleasure it gave him in proposing the health of their W . M ., Bro . Wilton , whom he had known from a boy , and especially as the eldest son of their late and esteemed Bro . Wilton , P . M ., and had no doubt the son would worthily follow in the steps of his late respected father .

I he toast having been received with enthusiasm , was responded to by the W . M . Bro . Radway , P . M ., then proposed in an eloquent speech "The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Master , Bro . Gregory , " who he said had performed his duties during his year of office in such an excellent and courteous manner . Bro . Gregory suitably responded , thanking the officers and brethren for the very kind and ready way they had

always supported him . The toasts of "The Officers ; " "The Visiting Brethren ; " and the Tyler were given and responded to , when a vote of thanks to Bro . Radway , P . M ., for accomodating and providing them with such an excellent repast brought a most enjoyable evening to a close . Bro . Foote presided at the piano , and several excellent songs were rendered by the brethren during the evening .

Institution for Boys respecting a scheme to indemnify Bro . !•' . Binckes on his retiring-from the position of Secretary to that Institution . Bro . Capt . Walls gave a notice of motion that the sum of £ 2 10 s . be voted to the fund as suggested by the circular . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned

After a discussion , it was proposed by Bro . E . Dorling , P . M ., seconded by Bro . H . Finer , P . M ., and carried unanimously , that the lodge do support the scheme for the Pension Indemnity Fund and subscribes the sum at £ 2 10 s . asked for . 'The Secretary was instructed to write

Bro . Langton to sameeffect . The W . M ., amidst the acclamation of the brethren , announced Bros . Loonies , Wright , and Kimbell had each promised the sum of £ 2 2 s . to the Arnold Lodge Provincial Lodge Reception Fund , _ thus bringing up the fund to date to £ 70 7 s . The question of subscribing to decoration of Centenary Hall of the R . M . I , for Girls was brought before the lodge , but not entertained . 'The VV . M . called attention of the brethren to the proposal to found a Masonic Charities Association in connection with

given . " The Health of the M . E . Z . " was given by the I . P . Z . In the course of his remarks he said that as an exaltee of the Kennington Chapter , their First Principal held a high place in the esteem of ever } ' member of it . He had worked through the various offices , and had introduced several worthy brethren into the chapter , and in other ways had

shown the most lively interest in the well-being of the chapter . The M . E . Z ., having briefly replied , then gave " The Second and Third Principals , " which was duly honoured . Comps . Westley and Salter having acknowledged the compliment , "The Health of the Exaltee" was given in most fluent terms by the M . E . Z . Comp . Brinkley responded to this toast in a ^ speech of

some merit . "The Health of the Visitors" followed , ' and that toast was duly honoured and acknowledged . In giving the toast of " The Past Principals , " the M . E . Z . spoke of those companions in the highest terms of commendation . He said that they had seen how well Comp . Ayling , P . Z ., had peiformedthe ceremony of exaltation

that evening , and how well the work of Principal Sojourner had been carried out by Comp . Lardner , P . Z ., in the absence of Comp . Austin . He should couple the name of Comp . Lardner , I . P . Z ., with the toast . The I . P . Z . having responded , "The Health of the Treasurer and Scribe E . " followed . The M . E . Z . said that

the exertions of Comps . Everett and Higgins had succeeded in placing the Kennington Chapter upon a pinnacle of financial prosperity and success . Comps . Everett and Higgins having replied , the toast of "The Officers , " coupled with the names of Comps . Dowling and Sims , terminated the proceedings .

Islington Chapter ( No . 1471 ) . —A convocation of this flourishing chapter was held on Wednesday , the 29 th ult ., at the Cock Tavern , Highbury . This chapter has recently made rapid strides , having been largely recruited by numerous exaltees and joining - members , and at the meeting under notice further additions were made to the numbers , three candidates presenting themselves for

exaltation , and three companions being received as joining members . The chapter was opened by Comp . Wm . Shurmur , M . E . Z ., supported by Comps C . G . Sparrow , P . Z ., acting H . ; jas . M .
