Bro . J . Barnett , jun ., P . M ., Sec , was elected as the Charity representative for the
province , and apologies from several distinguished brethren having been read , the lodge was closed . After an excellent banquet the customary toasts were jiven , the speeches being commendably brief in order to allow the brethren to catch the return train to town . Bro . Geo . Everett , P . G . Treas ., replying for "The Grand Officers , " said he felt it a very great honour and
privilege in the presence of so many Grand Officers and so many distinguished brethren to respond to this important toast . It was by the mere accident of his M asonic rank that he was called upon to do so , and not by any special fitness on his part . The W . M . had been good enough to submit the toast in a kindly manner , and the brethren had received it with every cordiality . The Grand Officers felt a "Teat
satisfaction in thinking they stood so well with the Craft in general , and that the mention of their names was always received with kindness . They also felt pleasure in attending—especially on occasions such as this—to testify the great interest they took in the Craft , and their desire to see the grand principles carried out in the best possible manner . Perhaps he would be allowed to digress to make
an allusion to the W . M . It was a great pleasure to see installed into the chair one so fitted to adorn it , for Bro . A . Clemow possessed in an eminent degree those great characteristics that so much tended to constitute a good Master and a true ATason . The kind heartedness and geniality of Bro . Clemow had endeared him to all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance , and every brother in the room would
unite in wishing him a very happy and prosperous year of office . On behalf of the Grand Officers , he ( Bro . Everett ) again returned thanks for the kind reception given them , and assured the members that they would carry away very pleasant recollections of their visit to the Pegasus Lodge when Bro . Clemow was installed . Bro . VV . Russell , Prov . G . Treas ., responded for " The
R . W . Prov . Grand Master , and the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " He was sorry the Prov . Grand Alaster was unable to attend , and also that ' the Deputy Prov . Grand Master was so ill that it was impossible for him to attend to his Masonic business . The rest of the Prov . Grand Officers did what they could to keep Alasonry going in Kent , and personally he was not forgetful that money was the sinews
of war . They relieved cases of distress , but did not forget appropriate occasions of enjoying themselves in a becoming manner . They held two provincial meetings , the first being for actual business , which he hoped many members of this lodge would attend , for they liked to see those brethren who resided in London fraternising with those residing in the province , for they thus were enabled to know each other
better and become knit more closely in the Masonic brotherhood . The provincial meeting would probabl y be held at Ramsgate , and nothing would delight the Prov . Grand Master more than to see a good meeting on that occasion , liro . Viscount Dungarvan , I . P . AL , then said he rose to propose a toast which he was sure they would receive most heartily—* ' The Worshipful Master . " Freemasonry
reminded him of the seven ages of man , for there were seven principle officers in the lodge . It had given him great pleasure to occupy two chairs in that lodge—those of S . W . and VV . M . —and also to vise as LP . M . to propose the toast of the evening . No brother could propose the toast more cordially or more heartily than he , for he was indebted to Bro . Clemow , VV . M ., for the kindness—for which he was
extremely grateful—in giving way , when it was a matter of great importance that he should occupy the chair . The VV . M . had been most loyal , and when he ( the LP . M . ) was installed in Somerset , was good enough to attend his installation . That was a kindness for which he was also
extremel y grateful . This lodge possessed few members , put they always found a great many brethren accepting its hospitality . That was a matter of which they were proud , and he hoped it would go on and be accepted as it was tendered . He asked all present to drink heartily to the toast .
liro . A . N . Clemow , W . AL , thanked the brethren very much for the kind manner in which they had received the tost so ably proposed by the I . P . AL He was sure the l . P . M . had spoken rather too flatteringly of his little mannerisms , although he appreciated it very much , and should most certainly endeavour to maintain the working of tne lod ge in the same manner it had been conducted in the I'asi . He was certain that in doing so he should receive

Bro . J . Warrillow proposed " The D . P . G . AL , Bro . Lieut .-Col . J . A . Kindley , and the Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . W . F . Bradley , P . G . Chap ., in responding , alluded to the great loss the province had sustained in the death of its P . G . M ., Bro . Col . Foster Gough , and hoped the Deputy Provincial Grand Alaster would " derive much benefit from
his voyage and return to England restored to health . Bro . Afathias Barker , P . P . J . G . W ., also replied , and said as Treasurer to the Staffordshire Alasonic Charitable Association he was pleased to bear testimony to the good work done on behalf of the Charities by the Treasurer of St . James ' s Lodge and other Provincial Grand Lodge Officers .

The Worshipful Alaster , in replying , thanked the brethren for their hearty response to the toast , and hoped all would enjoy themselves . He then proposed " The Health of the Initiate , " the son of an old and worthy Alason , the present father of the Athol Lodge , Birmingham . Bro . Glydon replied .
Bro . H . Payton , in an impressive manner , then proposed "The Jubilee of St . James's Lodge , " which was very ably responded to by Bros . Whittall , Jacobs , and Parkes , the senior Past Alasters of the lodge . Bro . Pepper , in proposing the toastof "The Visitors , " alluded to the pleasure tbe brethren of St . James ' s Lodge had in seeing them among them , and that at all times Warwickshire brethren would be particularly welcome , as
had it not been for six worthy Birmingham Alasons who signed the warrant and founded the lodge 50 years ago , probablySt . James ' sLodge wouldnot have been in existence . After relating many notable occurrences of the first 25 years of the lodge , and mentioning several large gifts to old members , he hoped the visitors , though perhaps they would not be able like the first visitor the lodge ever had , to visit it 11 times consecutively , would do their best to give them the pleasure of their company on many occasions .

Bro . Weston , in complimentary terms , proposed "The Health of the new W . AL , " and in alluding to the successful manner in which Bro . Holman carried out his duties as VV . M . of the South Saxon Lodge during the year of the Queen ' s Jubilee , said that it augured well for the Pelham Lodge that the present Alaster would bring experience to the work .
Bro . Holman , in reply , thanked the brethren for their kind welcome to him in the chair , and said he trusted he would receive every assistance from his ollicers , and that a pleasant and successful year would result therefrom . The W . M . then save "The Visitors , " expressing the pleasure it gave the Pelham Lodge to welcome them , and the gratification it was to himself that so many had

applauded for their efforts . An interesting feature in connection with the lodge was the presentation by Bro . Weston of a very handsome set of gavels . They are of antique formation , of ivory and ebony , having an emblem and shield in silver , with suitable reference to the presentation engraved thereon . The gift is a handsome one , and the donor received the most cordial thanks of the lodge . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

reminded him of the seven ages of man , for there were seven principle officers in the lodge . It had given him great pleasure to occupy two chairs in that lodge—those of S . W . and VV . M . —and also to vise as LP . M . to propose the toast of the evening . No brother could propose the toast more cordially or more heartily than he , for he was indebted to Bro . Clemow , VV . M ., for the kindness—for which he was
extremely grateful—in giving way , when it was a matter of great importance that he should occupy the chair . The VV . M . had been most loyal , and when he ( the LP . M . ) was installed in Somerset , was good enough to attend his installation . That was a kindness for which he was also
extremel y grateful . This lodge possessed few members , put they always found a great many brethren accepting its hospitality . That was a matter of which they were proud , and he hoped it would go on and be accepted as it was tendered . He asked all present to drink heartily to the toast .

Chap ., in responding , alluded to the great loss the province had sustained in the death of its P . G . M ., Bro . Col . Foster Gough , and hoped the Deputy Provincial Grand Alaster would " derive much benefit from

W ., also replied , and said as Treasurer to the Staffordshire Alasonic Charitable Association he was pleased to bear testimony to the good work done on behalf of the Charities by the Treasurer of St . The toastof " The Worshipful Alaster " was proposed by Bro . VV . B . Stocker . The Worshipful Alaster , in replying , thanked the brethren for their hearty response to the toast , and hoped all would enjoy themselves . He then proposed " The Health of the Initiate , " the son of an old and worthy Alason , the present father of the Athol Lodge , Birmingham . Bro . Glydon replied .
Bro . H . Payton , in an impressive manner , then proposed "The Jubilee of St . James's Lodge , " which was very ably responded to by Bros . Whittall , Jacobs , and Parkes , the senior Past Alasters of the lodge . Bro . Pepper , in proposing the toastof "The Visitors , " alluded to the pleasure tbe brethren of St . James ' s Lodge had in seeing them among them , and that at all times Warwickshire brethren would be particularly welcome , as
had it not been for six worthy Birmingham Alasons who signed the warrant and founded the lodge 50 years ago , probablySt . James ' sLodge wouldnot have been in existence . After relating many notable occurrences of the first 25 years of the lodge , and mentioning several large gifts to old members , he hoped the visitors , though perhaps they would not be able like the first visitor the lodge ever had , to visit it 11 times consecutively , would do their best to give them the pleasure of their company on many occasions .

Bro . Weston , in complimentary terms , proposed "The Health of the new W . AL , " and in alluding to the successful manner in which Bro . Holman carried out his duties as VV . M . of the South Saxon Lodge during the year of the Queen ' s Jubilee , said that it augured well for the Pelham Lodge that the present Alaster would bring experience to the work .
Bro . Holman , in reply , thanked the brethren for their kind welcome to him in the chair , and said he trusted he would receive every assistance from his ollicers , and that a pleasant and successful year would result therefrom . The W . M . then save "The Visitors , " expressing the pleasure it gave the Pelham Lodge to welcome them , and the gratification it was to himself that so many had

They are of antique formation , of ivory and ebony , having an emblem and shield in silver , with suitable reference to the presentation engraved thereon . The gift is a handsome one , and the donor received the most cordial thanks of the lodge . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .
