Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

London Masons , whilst men like' Lupus' and Bro . Hughan , who are ornaments to the Craft , and whose research and learning have done so much for Masonry , are left out in the cold . " The lecturer next reminded his hearers of their privileges and obligations , and strongly insisted upon the declaration that the candidate for initiation into the mysteries of the Craft should be unbiassed by any mercenary or

other unworthy motive ; and whilst one could not help regretting that many had sought for admission within their portals simply for what they could get out of Masonry , still he would say that they ought all to serve their brother first , and the world outside afterwards . He was a great advocate for the " clannishness " of Masonry . If he ( the lecturer ) was in a town where there were half-a-dozen tradesmen or

professional men , whose assistance he required , and one was a Mason and another was not , he would go to the Mason , as to a friend , in preference to him who was not one of them , for all he wanted . And this , he thought , we ought to do—serve our brother first , and then our neighbour or friend afterwards . Finally , the lecturer thanked the members for their attention to his lecture . It had been given

with a view to make all more curious about , and more interested in , our great Institution , and | if he had succeeded in suggesting one thought which might bear fruit and benefit ( . he noble Order , he would be amply repaid . At the close of lecture , the W . M . proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Emra Holmes , which was heartily responded to by the members and visitors present . At this meeting it was also decided to present to W . Bro . W . Thorn , I . P . M .,

a gold P . M . ' s jewel , as a token of esteem , for services rendered in the chair during the year 1 S 84 . After the business had been concluded , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where asumptuous repast had been provided by Mrs . Edwards , the veteran caterer of the Guernsey lodges . Afterwards the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , and the brethren and visitors spent a most enjoyable and fraternal evening .

The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet hall for refreshment of a satisfying and also pleasant nature . HARWICH . —Star in the East Lod ge ( No . G 50 ) . — A special interest attached to the monthly meeting of this lodge , held on Tuesday last , from the fact that part of the business was the initiation of the Mayor of

the borough , who is said to be the most youthtul Mayor in the kingdom , having only attained his 25 th year . The ballot having been unanimously declared in his favour , his Worship duly presented himself , and was initiated in a most impressive manner by W . Bro . F , R . Hales , the W . M . At the dinner which followed the lodge , the W . M . proposed "The Health of the Initiate , " remarking how

gratified he was that it had fallen to his lot to be the medium of introducing his Worship into Freemasonry . He was sure from what he knew of Bro . Ward that he would become an active Freemason , and he trusted that some day his Worship would attain to the chair of his mother lodge .

The Mayor , in responding , thanked the brethren for the heartiness of their reception of him . It had long been his earnest wish to join the Order of Freemasonry . He had always understood that to be a good Mason was to be a good man , and he therefore trusted , as time went on , he should prove himself to be both .

M . and his officers calling forth unstinted commendation . It was unanimously resolved that the officers of the lodge should wear gauntlets , and ten guineas was voted as a temporary relief to a distressed brother .

At the social board the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Bro . H . Mason , P . M ., who stands Steward for the " old people" at the coming festival , will , we are happy to say , take up some 150 guineas on his list . The Pattison Choir sang occasional music during the ceremonies , both of initiation and closing of lodge , and the whole affair was most enjoyable .

MANCHESTER . —St . The members of the lodge had applied for a dispensation to hold their regular meeting on some more convenient day than Christmas

Eve t 6 the R . W . P . G . M ., per the Prov . G . Millward to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., the

working tools being explained by Bio . H . Y . Rutter , I . P . M . The addresses to the W . M ., Wardens , and brethren , which were purposely omitted at the installation meeting for want of time , were here delivered by Bros . E . Hilton , P . M ., and J . J . Meakin , respectively , after which the lodge was closed in peace and harmony .

At the banquet the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , the I . P . M ., Bro . H . Y . Rutter , being presented with a handsome gold jewel , as was Bro . the Secretary with a very chaste Secretary's jewel , both of which were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester .

D ., afterwards delivered thelthree addresses , and , there being no further business , " Hearty good wishes " were expressed by the visitors , and the lodge was closed in peace and

harmony . From our own personal knowledge of Bro . Walker , and what we have been given to understand , the lodge will suffer nothing under his presidency , as he has already three candidates for initiation , personal friends of his own , and this number will be further augmented during his year of office . Since Bro . Walker ' s connection with the lodge

he has proposed nine candidates , and has himself endowed the S . W ' s . chair with five votes annually for one of the Masonic Charitable Institutions , and it is his intention to similarly endow the W . M . 's chair on or before his retirement therefrom , providing the J . W . follows suit . Such

zeal for the welfare of a small lodge like this is not often exhibited , and is worthy of imitation . We wish Bro . Walker a successful year of office .

P . M ., Bro . H . Y .
