BRO . W . J . HUGHAN . To the Editor of thc " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I notice Bro . VVhytehead ' s letter in your issue of this date , in which he proposes to raise a fund for the purpose of presenting Bro . Hughan with some fitting token of regard , and at the same time suggests that I should act as

Treasurer . Having been intimately associated with Bro . Hughan for many years past , during which time I have had innumerable opportunities of noticing the untiring energy and persevering zeal displayed by him in the cause of Freemasonry , I can only express surprise that a testimonial somewhat commensurate with the services lie has rendered was not started long ago . However , Bro . Whytehead

having suggested one , I shall be only too glad to do what I can to ensure its success . It is unnecessary for me to write with respect to Bro . Hughan's life works , for it is thoroughly well known , and appreciated too , wherever an English-speaking Mason is to be found . I am rather inclined to question the wisdom of limiting the subscriptions

to a guinea , for although many can not afford to give more , I doubt not there are others who can and would prefer to give five times or even ten times as much . Bro . BRO . W . J . HUGHAN . To the Editor of thc " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I notice Bro . VVhytehead ' s letter in your issue of this date , in which he proposes to raise a fund for the purpose of presenting Bro . Hughan with some fitting token of regard , and at the same time suggests that I should act as

Treasurer . Having been intimately associated with Bro . Hughan for many years past , during which time I have had innumerable opportunities of noticing the untiring energy and persevering zeal displayed by him in the cause of Freemasonry , I can only express surprise that a testimonial somewhat commensurate with the services lie has rendered was not started long ago . However , Bro . Whytehead

having suggested one , I shall be only too glad to do what I can to ensure its success . It is unnecessary for me to write with respect to Bro . Hughan's life works , for it is thoroughly well known , and appreciated too , wherever an English-speaking Mason is to be found . I am rather inclined to question the wisdom of limiting the subscriptions

to a guinea , for although many can not afford to give more , I doubt not there are others who can and would prefer to give five times or even ten times as much . Bro . Hughan has worked hard without even dreaming of fee or reward ; let us give him a hearty and agreeable surprise . —Yours faithfully and fraternally , GEORGE KENNING . October 6 th .

" Dear Sir and Brother , — 1 should be glad if you could find space for the following list of portraits destroyed by the late fire , and of which 1 regret to saywe have neither copies nor engravings . Amongst your readers there may be some who are more fortunate , or at any rate can perhaps enlighten us as to

whether any of them were either engraved or copied . In 1785 proposals were made for engraving by subscription the two first mentioned portraits , but 1 am of opinion it was not done then , if at all , at full length . —Yours fraternally , H .
