They had been given to understand they would obtain three votes , but had only received two . The W . AL said as this was the last meeting of the

first year of the lodge ' s existence , he was sure the brethren would be glad to hear a few remarks from him regarding their progress . There were a large number of lodges in Newcastle , five in Sunderland , and two years ago but one in South Shields . This one had 240 members , and they thought the time had come when they should have another lodge . The Past

Masters of the St . Hilda ' s Lodge cordially joined in the proposal , and in response to tlieir petition the warrant was granted , and the lodge was consecrated in September last year by the Prov . G . M ., the Alarquess of Londonderry . As some of the Past Masters were aware , the formation expenses of a lodge amounted to £ 60 or £ 70 . The Past Masters of the St .

Hilda ' s Lodge and the officers of the

new lodge came forward so readily with assistance that they did not feel the cost as they would otherwise have done . When the lodge was formed there was 24 members , Including the eight who signed the petition . They had now 53 members on the roll , one of whom had left the country recently . They had subscribed £ 21 to the Boys ' School durinir the past year , and after paying all expenses ,

they had a balance of £ 20 to £ 30 in hand . He thought they had every reason to be gratified with the position of the lodge . The election of the VV . AI . for thc ensuing year then took place , and Bro . Davidson , J . W ., was . selected for that office . Bro . Alorton , P . AL , Treasurer , was re-elected , and Bro . Brown was reappointed Tyler . The " Hearty good wishes " of visiting brethren liaving been given , the lodge was afterwards closed in due form . Atthe subse-
