Reid had entrusted to him the duty of expressing the great pleasure he felt , and the

honour he esteemed it , that he had been admitted as a member of the ancient Order . He had seen Dr . Reid off to Georgetown the day before , and he thoroughly appreciated the new relation in which he found himself . Bro . John Whitehead , I . P . M ., wished to endorse all that had been said by Bro . Thomson . He also accompanied Dr .

Reid on his departure for British Guiana , and he found that the newly-admitted brother was fully sensible of the great obligations which he had assumed . The W . Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The lodge was thereupon closed , and , preceded by the Piper , Bro . John Milton , the brethren passed to the dining hall , where a capital Scotch banquet was provided by Bro . Clemow , of Anderton ' s Hotel . The menu was a special one , as regarded the quotations by which each course was accompanied ; they were all Scotch , and exhibited a spirit

of great drollery in the selector . The usual toasts followed , and some capital songs and reels were given between them . Bro . Whitehead was active in seeking supporters for the W . M . 's Benevolent J ubilee Festival list , and he secured a total of £ 42 , which Bro . Page said he hoped would be increased to j £ , i °° by the date on which the Festival would be held .

Bro . Whitehead , I . P . M ., in proposing "The W . M ., " said they all knew Bro . Page was one of the founders of the lodge , and the heartiness with which he had co-operated with the brethren in the work of the lodge had commended itself to the consideration of all the members of the lodge . The W . M . had done everything he could to further the interests of the lodge and its members . The Worshipful Master , in reply , said he could confirm

what Bro . Whitehead had said . It had given him great pleasure , and it always would , to promote the interests of the lodge and the brethren as far as he possibly could . He then thanked Bro . Whitehead and the brethren for the hearty support they had given his list as Steward , and said he should do his best to make it up to £ 160 . Several brethren responded to the toast of " The Visitors . "

Bro . Gellion , P . M ., who had acted as S . W . during the work of the lodge that evening , in replying to trie toast of "The Officers , " said it was very pleasant to hear the W . M . speak , as he had spoken , so well of his officers . However , he thought they had all done their very best , and that ought to enhance the value and the character of the Scots Lodge . All the officers wished to do their very best

to support the W . M ., and he hoped their efforts would give satisfaction . Bro . Dr . Forbes said he felt taken rather aback at being - called upon to make one of the responses , because he was a junior officer . Still , there was no one who had the interests of the lodge closer at heart than he ; no one more wished for the success of the lodge ; and any humble efforts of his

if they could be given would be given most heartily . He was sure that the Scots Lodge had a great future before it . If the brethren bided their time—as Scotsmen always did—they were sure to climb to the top of the tree . The lodge was getting together a number of Scotsmen of the proper sort . The visitors knew the lodge had talent in it , musical and otherwise , and would match any other lodge ;

and as to hospitality , they need not talk about that—the visitors had passed an eloquent eulogium on it—and thc hospitality of Scotchmen wherever they were found was well known . All over the world wherever a Scotchman was to be found his heart was always open—open as the day . Once make a Scotchman your friend , he was a friend for ever ; and as for Charity—there was not a more charitable being

on the earth than a Scotchman , although he was often maligned . In the great City of London Scotchmen , joined by a bond of nationality , determined to make this lodge one of the finest lodges in the Metropolis , and they would do itthey were determined to do it—and they had one of the finest halls for any lodge to meet in . The officers , however low or however high on the list , were loyal to the Master who sat in the chair , and were desirous to do their duty . At

the Battle of Trafalgar the ensign went up "England expects every man to do his duty , " but a Scotchman who was present said " where is Scotland ? " " Oh , Jock , " was the answer , " it is well known Scotchmen always do their duty . " Bro . Thomson , Sec , Bro . Gray , and others also replied , and the proceedings closed with the Tyler's toast and thc singing of " Auld Lang Syne . "

The lodge had held an emergency meeting on the previous Monday , at which Dr . Irvine Kempton Reid was initiated . At the regular meeting on the 20 th ult . Bro . J . Duncan Balfour was passed to the Second Degree , after which Bro . James Thomson , Sec , reported to the VV . M . and the lodge that Bro . Dr .

The W .

Still , there was no one who had the interests of the lodge closer at heart than he ; no one more wished for the success of the lodge ; and any humble efforts of his

if they could be given would be given most heartily . He was sure that the Scots Lodge had a great future before it . If the brethren bided their time—as Scotsmen always did—they were sure to climb to the top of the tree . The lodge was getting together a number of Scotsmen of the proper sort . The visitors knew the lodge had talent in it , musical and otherwise , and would match any other lodge ;

and as to hospitality , they need not talk about that—the visitors had passed an eloquent eulogium on it—and thc hospitality of Scotchmen wherever they were found was well known .
