A Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . Jones , I . P . M ., and a vote or sympathy with Bro . John Fieeman in a recent severe domestic allliction was passed .

Banquet followed the working of the lodge , and some beautiful glee and solo part singing was given by Bios . R . J . Hennings , J . L . Haddon , James Gawthrop , A . C . Nurzey , and the choir . A ' cello and pianoforte duet was played by Bros . Geverding and C H . Kempling , a fiute solo was given by Bro . Spencer West , and Bro . C . H . Kempling performed the pianofore solo , Rigaudon in G . The donations to the benevolent box amounted to £ 1 17 s . Gd . The speeches were very brief , music being the central attraction .

Bro . A . W . Jones , I . P . M ., proposed " The VV . M ., " and sa d he was glad that it had been the custom since the Mendelssohn Lodge was founded to cut the speeches short , and to say everything in a few words , but with sincerity . Bro . Bramble ' s merits were known so well and valued so highly , that to say much about him would be to gild refined gold ; he was a right good fellow , and the lodge was to be congratulated on having him as its head tor the ensuing year ; he had always taken a great interest in the work of the lodge , which he had carried out to the best of his skill and ability , both of which were not of an ordinary character .

Bro . Bramble , replying , said he had not expected such an enthusiastic reception , but as they felt they had placed the right man in the chair , it would be his bounden duty duiing his year to prove the justice of their choice . He had no doubt they would have a successful year . If there was thc work to do he knew there were brethren who would back him up , and his enjoyment was increased thereby , because he knew he could not then fail

In giving the toast of "The I . P . M ., " Bro . Bramble said Bro . Jones was known so well , had done his duty so admirably , and so endeared himself to all during his year that any mention of him would be superfluous . A proof of the excellence of his work had been given that evening in the installation ceremony . He was one ol the best , of whom there vvere veiy few left .

Bro . Jones , I . P . M ., leplied , and again thanked ihe brethren for the Past Master ' s jewel . He would al ways wear it with pride and satisfaction . He had had to live up to a very high standard , the conception of his predecessors having been so great ; but he had tried to do the best he could , and he took it , from the brethren ' s reception of the toast , that hehad not failed to any considerable extent .

Bro . Daniil Freeman responded to the toast ot " The Initiate , " and Bros . Kempling , Pullan , and A . Inskipp to that of " The Visitors . " "The Past Masters , " "The Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Ofiicers " followed , and the Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings .

St . Bride Lodge , No . 2817 . INSTALLATION OF BRO . THE LORD MAYOR . The above lodge , which was consecrated just a twelvemonth ago , held its installation meeting for the present year at the Hotel Cecil on the 7 th instant . Constituted for the purpose ol Masonic inteicuurse by members of thc printing trade and the trades allied with printing , the lodge secured from the beginning thc hearty support of all the best-known members of the trade , and its patrons arc found not only in the metropolitan

but in ihe provincial aiea , as is testified by one cf its supporters being Bro . Sir Henry Bemrose . Bro . C . J . Drummond was the first Master of thc lodge , and when his year was coining to a close , the brethren unanimously ! considered that , as Bro . the Lord Mayor was closely identified wilh ihe printing trade , he should be invited , he being a member of the lodge , to aceept ihe position of VV . M . His lordship consented , and he was elected item eon .

Bro . C . J . Drummond , VV . M ., presided at Monday s meeting , anJ there were also present the following brethren : Bros . G . C Burry , P . P . G . Org . Surrey ( 22 years ) , I . P . M . ; A . Ihe installation ceremony was performed by Bro . Drummond , who , after Bro . the Lord Mayor had been placed in the chair , was invested as I . P . M . Bio . Allied VV . Letts was appointed the S . VV ., and Bros . Charles VV . Warde , J . VV . ; the Rev . W . C . Heaton , M . A ., Chap . ; G . R . Blades , Treas . ; W . Hilton , Sec ; Alick Marshall , S . D . ; Aldeiman Tiuscott , J . D ., J . At the conclusion of the ceremony , a handsome jewel of a Past Master was presented in ihe name ot the lue ' ge by Bro . the Lurd Mayor to Bro .

Drummond , accompanied by seme vtiy turn jilm . entary ttmaiks on the efficient style in which he had perfuimed the aiduous duties of Master during thc past year , wherein the initiations , passings , and raisings had been very numerous . Bro . Drummond acknowledged the compliment , and then proposed a vote ol congratulation to Bro . Horace Brooks Marshall , G . Treas ., on his having been elected one of the Sheriffs of London . 'The motion was seconded by the Treasurer , and carr ied . After the lodge had adopted a suggestion that the Lancastrian Lodge and the St . Bride Lodge should combine in forming a lodge of instruction , the closing formalities were performed . A banquet followed .

Thc Loid Mayor , having another engagement , postponed the musical entertainment by Mr . Henry Yates , Mr . Alick Marshall , Mr . G . Schneider , Mr . Thomas Powell , and Mr . J . Perceval ( under the direction of Bro . Burry , Org . ) , until the toasts had been disposed of . Biu . Sir John B . Monckton , P . G . W ., responded to the toast of " The Grand Ofiicers . "

Bro . Sheriff Marshall , in compliance with loud calls for him as one of the Grand Ollicers , said he rose with very great dillidence to speak after Sir John Monckton , but when he was on the Door of the Grand Lodge he always received so much kindness from the Grand Ollicers that he felt bound to acknowledge it . When he had the honour of rising to the dais hc also received the same kindness from his brother Grand Ofiicers . It was his peculiar satisfaction tu bear testimony now to the pleasure with which the

Grand Treasurer was received . He was proud of being elected thc Grand Treasurer of England , and it seemed lit that he should respond to the toast of the Grand Ollicers in a ludge of which he was one of the founders . He thanked the brethren for the kind vote of congratulation they had passed in lodge . As he was not present when the motion was proposed , he did not know what was said , but he did know that , coming from the St . Bride Lodge , the vote must have been generously worded .

The Lord Major , replying to the toast of " The Worshipful Master , " which was proposed by Bro . Drummond , said that , when that brother paid him the very great compliment of asking him to undertake the Mastership of the lodge , he had a great amount of hesitation in accepting the ollicc for two reasons . One was that , although in years gone by he was a founder of no less than three lodges , and occupied the chair

in eachot them , it was so long since that he felt that the work of the lodge had gone past him , and that time would nut allow him tu read it up , so as to enable him to do justice to the important position of Master of a lod ^ e like the St . Bride . His second hesitation arose from feeling that his accepting tbe position would necessitate the keeping of each ollicer of the lodge back for one year . Wnen he explained tu Bro . Drummond how reluctant he would be to do that , he was at once told that one and all of the

P . M . ; A .
