INSTALLATION OF BRO . ERNEST INGMAN . The annual installation ceremony in connection with the above lodge took place at the Clarendon Hotel , Gravesend , on the evening of Wednesday , the < y . h inst . Bro . W . c „ , nrer Bowen . W . The W . M . elect , Bro . Ernest Ingman , was presented to the W . M . by the n of C , and the ceremony of installation was most ably performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . Spencer Bowen . ,,,,,, . , . „ c The lodge having been closed , the brethren , after an interval to allow of a banquet being laid out in the lodge room , sat down to the same , and did full justice to the good things provided by their host .

Craft Masonry.

At the conclusion ot the banquet , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and duly honoured . Bro . Bowen , I . P . M ., proposed the toast of the evening—ihat of "The Newly-Installed W . M . " He trusted it needed no words from him to impress on the brethren the excellence of their new W . M . H : possessed all the qualifications for a brother holding such a high position ; as a Freemason he might have some equals , but no superiors . They bad had an tamest that evening of the work that might be expected from

him in the lodge , and they were sure he would prove himself to be a good , all-round Mason , Bro . Ingman , VV . M ., who was received with loud and prolonged applause , thanked the I . P . M . for his kind remarks , and the brethren for the cordial manner in which they had been received . He might quote the line— " Now comes the last and greatest trial . " Charity was the last trial of a Freemason , so he would claim their charity towards him as a speech-maker , but he would always do his best tor the lodge in which he was initiated .

The W . M . proposed "The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Master . " Bro . Bowen , I . P . M ., in reply , observed ' * How are the mighty fallen . " ( Laughter . ) He would , however , try to show them as I . P . M . the mighty atom could hold its own . The toast of " The Visitors " was responded to by brethren hailing from Australia and China respectively , the remaining toasts , being those of " The Past Masters , " "The Treasurer and Secretary , " "The Masonic Charities , " "The Officers of the Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s toast .

An excellent programme of music was rendered during the evening by Miss Henry , Miss Acanth , Bro . F . Noakes , and Mr . F . Chester . The accompanying design formed the first page of menu .

Bros . A . Upton Phillips , W . Woollnen , and G . A . P . Waite . A Masonic service was introduced , and added considerably to the impressiveness of the ceremony . The brethren afterwards adjourned to a banquet , presided over by the W . M ., who presented the usual loyal and Masonic toasts . Bros . T . II . Openshaw , C . M . G ., and Dr . J . f . Marsh replied for " The Past Masters , " and Bros . J . G . Langton , P . G . Treas . Middx ,, T . B . Roberts , and VV . J . Death for " The Visitors . "

Bro . I . M . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., spoke on behalf of "The Misonic Charities . " 'The musical items were rendered by Bros . Wingrove Ives , Wellington , Barrett , and the inimitable Bro . J . II . Hill ( Harrison Hill ) . It is gratifying to learn and see tbat the Lancastrian Lodge has considerably grown , and is in a very prosperous position .
