The subscriptions announced , including 100 guineas from the Chairman , amounted to £ 1200 . Bro . VV . Holland gave a dress rehearsal of the new grand spectacle , " Our Empire , " at the Albert Palace ,

Battersea , on the 3 rd inst ., in the new open-air theatre , and on Saturday the first public performance took place before a crowded audience , who greatly appreciated the music and spectacle . The Prince and Princess of Wales , the Grand Duke Michael of Russia , and a distinguished company visited the horse show at the Agricultural Hall , Islington ,

on the 3 rd inst ., and witnessed the jumping competitions . The Royal visitors were loudly cheered , both on their arrival and departure . Bro . the Lord Mayor , who was accompanied by the Lady Mayoress and Bro , Alderman and Sheriff Evans , opened a restaurant and home for working girls in Chtswell-street on Saturday last , the Princess of Teck , the Duchess of Marlborough , Lady Cremorne , and others

being present on the occasion . Bro . Sir E . Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., presided at a special general meeting of the South-Eastern Railway Company held at the board room , London Bridge Station , on the 3 rd inst ., when it was agreed to consolidate certain stocks and to purchase the lands , roads , works , and rights of the Seabrook Estate Company for a payment of £ 1500

a year . Bro . T . Sutherland , M . P ., presided at the halfyearly meeting of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company at the offices , Leadenhall-street , on Thursday , the 3 rd instant . The report was adopted , an interim dividend of five per cent , was formally declared , and the proceedings then terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman .

AU the arrangements have been settled for the opening by her Majesty on the 30 th inst . of the Holloway College for Women . The ceremony will consist of a short service in the chapel , after which the Queen will make a tour of the building and declare the College open . Her Majesty has consented to receive an illuminated address which will set forth the objects of the College , and will be

presented in a handsome gold casket . Bro . the Lord Mayor , who was accompanied by the Lady Mayoress , opened the new blocks of artizans ' dwellings erected in Seward-street , Goswell-road , E . opened the Royal Albert Artizans' Dwellings in Cartwrightstreet , Royal Mint-street . A large party of members of the House of Commons and others visited Portsmouth on Saturday last , under the auspices of Bro . Lord Charles Beresford , C . B ., M . P ,, for the purpose of witnessing a naval sham fightolt Whale Island and afterwards inspecting the Colonies .

It is in contemplation to address Bro . the Lord Mayor on the subject of appropriating the afternoon of Monday , the 21 st inst ., as a half holiday , it being the day assigned for the laying of the memorial stone of the Tower Bridge by the Prince of Wales , as representing her Majesty the Oueen .

The wills of the late Bros , the Rev . A . C . Graystone , of Tankerton Tower , Whitstable , and Colonel C N . Sturt have been proved , the personalty in the former case having been sworn at upwards of £ 116 , 000 , and in the latter at over £ 92 , 000 .

Bros , the Lord Mayor and Aldermen Sir B . S . Phillips , Stone , Sir R . Hanson , De Keyser , Waterlow , Whitehead , Savory , Grey , and Cowan , and Alderman and Sheriff Evans attended the Court ot Aldermen held at the Guildhall on Tuesday .

Bro . the Lord Mayor has opened some new baths at Putney , which have been recently erected at a cost of £ 13 , 000 , and which comprise a large swimming bath 100 feet by 30 feet , a Turkish bath , ladies' and gentlemen's first and second class private baths , land two large club rooms .

Alderman Savory , as Master , presided at the dinner given by the Court and Livery of the Poulterers ' Company , at the Cannon-street Hotel , on Monday evening , Bro . the Lord Mayor , who acknowledged thetoastof "The Lord Mayor and Corporation , " and proposed " The Health of the Chairman , " being the principal guest .

Bro . the Very Rev . E . R . Currie , M . A ., P . G . Chap ., W . M . Abbey Lodge , 11 S 4 , will install Bro . Henry Kimm , J . W ., W . M . elect , on Thursday , June 17 th , at the Masonic Hall , Battle , after which the brethren will return by train for the banquet , to be held at the Queen's Hotel , Hastings , when , doubtless , a large attendance of brethren from the province will attend .

The usual semi-state procession took place , as usual , on Tuesday , and was to be repeated on Thursday at the Ascot meeting . It consisted on the former day of six of lhe Royal carriages , in the first of which were the Prince and Princess of VVales , the Princess Christian , and the Duke of Connaught , while the third contained Prince Albert Victor of VVales and his three sisters . Bro . Lord Suffield , as Master of the Queen's Buckhounds , was in attendance .

The remains of the late Bro . Edwin Slei g h , of Moorside Farm , Haughton , whose death was recorded last week , were interred at Christ Church , Denton , on Friday , the 29 th ult ., with Masonic rites . The funeral was attended by a full complement of members and officers connected with the Duke of Athol Lodge , of which deceased was Secretary , and a number of gentlemen for the Manchester

Corporation Waterworks Department . Several of the Masonic brethren bore the body to and from the church , and Bro . Dutton , a Cheshire Provincial Officer , read the Masonic funeral ceremony . The Rev . J . Smith conducted the service in church , and the Rev . A . Dendy Agate , of Brookfield Church , the service at the grave-side . The funeral was a very imposing one , and it was witnessed by a large concourse of persons .

AU the arrangements have been settled for the opening by her Majesty on the 30 th inst . of the Holloway College for Women .
