ANNUAL DINNER OF THE WANDERERS LODGE OF INSTRUCTION .

The chair was taken by the Preceptor , Bro . F . J . Wray , P . M . 1604 , 1257 , P . Z . 1604 , and he was supported by Bro . H . Folson , W . M . of the mother lodge ; Bros . G . Boulton , P . Coleman , S . VV . 1 C 04 ; W . Swings , C . Pugh , T . Bowen , VV .

Taylor , C . Clarkson , A . Hayes , VV . Holmes , Holland , VV . Goode , W . Taylor , South , J . Taylor , and many others . On the cloth being removed the CHAIRMAN proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , together with the toast of "The Mother Lodge , " which was responded to in a very effective speech by Bro . H . FOLSON , the respected W . M ., who then proposed "The Wanderers Lodge of

Instruction , " coupling with it the name of the Preceptor , Bro . F . J . Wray , P . M ., the Chairman of the evening , whose services to the lodge during the five years of its existence had brought it to and maintained it in a high state of efficiency . Bro . WRAY then rose and said : Worshipful Master of the mother lodge , I beg to thank you very much on behalf

of this lodge of instruction for the very kind remarks you have made as to jts general usefulness in promulgating a knowledge of our beautiful ceremonies , and also the eulogy you have been pleased to pass on my humble services , which , I need not say , have been rendered by me for the purest love of Freemasonry and its principles . If those services have met with approval , I am sure I am amply repaid by the very hearty response of the brethren

gathered round me , and I desire to assure them that as long as I am able I will continue to be at my post each successive VVednesday evening to carry on the work I have undertaken and performed for the past five years . A Charitable Association is attached to this lodge of instruction , and since its formation a considerable sum has been paid into the three Masonic Charities through its agency , and it is still actively engaged in carryingon this good work . Now , in order toconducttheselargeandimportantcon-

cerns , it is necessary that some large-hearted and devoted brother should volunteer his services , and by painstaking and self-denying labour bring them to a successful issue . I allude to the necessity of a lodge of instruction procuring the services of an able and efficient Secretary , a brother who will not only devote his time once a week at the meetings of the lodge , but one who will lose no opportunity of furthering its interests at all times , whether in or

out of lodge , without hope of reward beyond the gratifying testimony of a clear conscience . Now , brethren , I am sure you will agree with me that in Bro . George Musson ( a highly respected member of the mother lodge ) we have secured such a brother and such a Secretary . He has been indefatigable in his exertions in securing the success of this lodge , and particularly of thc Charitable Association . He has ingratiated himself with

every member of the lodge , and has largely practised the distinguishing characteristic of a Freemason ' s heart , by subscribing liberally to the Masonic Charities , thereby pioving that practice and precept with him go hand in hand . After five years of such service the members of the lodge have come to the determination to present Bro . Musson with a mark of their extreme regard and of their appreciation of his pre-eminent services . And personally

thanking the brethren for the very liberal and hearty response they made to the circular addressed to them on the subject , I beg in their name and with their unanimous approval , to present you , Bro . Musson , with this chronograph , which it is my earnest hope you may long be spared by the G . A . O . T . U . to wear in remembrance of the many happy hours you have spent with the members . And in conclusion , I beg you also , on behalf of the lodge , to accept

as Mrs . Musson s proxy , this locket , and convey to her the " Hearty good wishes " of the members of the Wanderers Lodge of Instruction . Brethren , I ask you to be upstanding and drink " The Health of our esteemed Secretary , Bro . Musson . " Bro . GEORGE MUSSON responded , and said : Bro . Past Master Wray and brethien , I cannot find words to thank you sufficiently for the very kind and generous manner in

which you have come forward in response to the resolution of thelodge , and presented mc with this very handsome mark of your esteem and appreciation of my services as Secretary for the past five years , and I hope you will believe me when I say that I thank you most sincerely from the bottom of my heart . You , brethren , have responded in a manner far beyond my expectations ; I never thought , for one moment , that my humble services would be recognised in so

handsome and generous a manner . There was a time , as most of you will remember , when business and other matters pressed themselves rather heavily upon me that I felt I was not fulfilling my duties to the satisfaction of the brethren , and certainly not to myself , when I felt it incumbent to resign , but was prevailed upon by my dear old friend , Bro . Past Master Brindley ( whom I knew Iongbefore I was a Mason ) , and several other brethren to alter my

decision , and hence it is , brethren . ^ that I still occupy the proud position of Secretary to this justly celebrated lodge of instruction . ( Applause . ) It is now five years ago last April when the mother Iodge granted us a warrant of constitution , and it was in anticipation of that grant that Bro . Wray asked me if I would accept the office of Secretary . Well , brethren , I need not say how proud I was of the offer , but at the same time I felt a deal of diffidence as regards

accepting , as I thought there might be some older member of the lodge who would be anxious for that post , and that I might possibly be treading upon somebody ' s corns , but this he assured me was not so , well , brethren , not feeling satisfied I asked Bro . Boulton , and he fully confirmed what Bro . Wray had said , and added that he would not have the job for any thing , ; so feeling satisfied I accepted , and if I have given satisfaction , and your generous appreciation this

evening shows me that I have , I am more than repaid . I can assure you , brethren , it has been a pleasure to me to be amongst you on Wednesday evenings , especially when in Bro . Gibson , our I . P . M ., I have such a kind and goodhearted Treasurer to deal with , and I am sure you are all with me when I say there is no brother of the lodge more respected and beloved than our dear old friend , Bro . Gibson . ( Applause . ) I cannot sit down without thanking

the Committee for the very kind and hearty manner in which they have worked on my behalf j my thanks are more especially due to my dear old friend , Bro . Past Master Wray , who , as Secretary and Treasurer to the fund , has borne the brunt of the work , and I cannot thank him sufficiently . I am confident that much of the success is due to his indefatigable exertions , and for the straightforward and business-like manner in

which Bro . Wray has carried out the whole affair . I am sure the brethren , and the Committee also , must feel confident that they could not have appointed a brother to have fulfilled those duties in a more efficient manner than Bro . Wray has . Now , as regards this very handsome locket , which you have so generously presented to my dear wife , I cannot find words to thank you . It is so very gratifying to me to find that her services have not been

forgotten , for my wife has often assisted me , and is deprived very often of my company , and has always taken a delight in whatever work I have been engaged in on behalf of the Craft . Therefore , brethren , it is so very pleasing and gratifying to find that I am not the only one thought of , and on behalf of my dear wife and myself , I once more thank you most heartily . The other toasts were "The Treasurer of thc Lodee of

Instruction , " responded to by Bro . J . GinsoN , I . P . M . "The Vice-Chairman" was responded to by Bros . G . BOULTON , P . M ., and VV . BRINDLEY , P . M . "The Stewards and Presentation Committee" was responded to by Bros . P . COUCHLAN , VV . M . 144 , and A . HAYKS , J . W . 1641 .

" lhe Visitors" was responded to by Bros . SOUTH and J . TAYLOR . After a most enjoyable evening , enlivened by songs by Bros . C VVhite , South , J . Bowen , Holland , and J . H . Lane , the brethren separated . The watch presented to Bro . G . Musson is a valuable gold keyless chronograph , and to Mrs . Musson a handsome gold locket , both being much admired by thc company .

Annual Dinner Of The Wanderers Lodge Of Instruction.

ANNUAL DINNER OF THE WANDERERS LODGE OF INSTRUCTION .

The annual dinner of the Wanderers Lodge of Instruction , No . 1604 , and the presentation of a testimonial to its Secretary , was held at the Victoria Mansions Restaurant , Victoria-street , S . W ., at 7 . 30 p . m ., on VVednesday , the ind inst .

The chair was taken by the Preceptor , Bro . F . J . Wray , P . M . 1604 , 1257 , P . Z . 1604 , and he was supported by Bro . H . Folson , W . M . of the mother lodge ; Bros . G . Boulton , P . M . ; VV . Brindley , P . M . ; J . Gibson , P . M . ; C . White , P . M . 299 ; C . Tayler , P . M . 1624 ; P . Coughlan , W . M . 144 ; T . Bull , P . M . ; C . Gofiin , P . AI . ; W .
