The initiate , in his reply , expressed his acknowledgments to his proposer and seconder . He was proud of beinjr a member of the ancient Order , and he had been greatly impressed with the ceremony of initiation that evening . He hoped in due time to become an active member in the Order .

Neville-Rolfe , her Majesty ' s Consul at Naples , who had shortly befere received it from a street sweeper , who had found it with some rubbish thrown away in the stieet . Bro . Rolfe suggested that as it appeared to be of French make it might be a lelic of the French occupation of Naples under Prince Murat at the beginning of the century . Bro . Speth pointed out that although French in appearance it differed in many respects from any French apron he had ever seen . The W . M . wished it lobe photographed for the " Transactions , " but the Secretary stated that

owing to its nature this would be unsatisfactory , as the colours , spangles , and tinsel did not lend themselves to this process . He feared they must be contented with a handm ade and coloured drawing of it for the museum of the lodge . Bro . T . H . Hobbs sent for exhibition and presentation to the lodge a splendidly preserved print of the curious and amusing engraving called " The Freemasons surpriz'd , or , the Secret discover'd . "
It represented an alleged occurrence in a Canterbury lodge , the Masons being surprised by the sudden appearance through the ceiling of the lower limbs of the chambermaid , wh o , having hidden in the garret in order to surprise their secrets , had accidentally fallen through the lath and plaster . The print is well known to antiquaries , but somewhat scarce , especially if in good condition . The thanks of the lodge were given to the exhibitors and donor .
The paper for the evening was by Count Goblet d'Alviella , Past Grand Master of Belgium , and related to the" Quatuor Coronati in Belgium . " It gave in great detail most interesting particulars of several corporations of the building trades in various cities of Flanders , with copies of their charges , & c , dating from the 15 th century , which had assumed the name of Quatuor Coronati giVds , placing themselves under the
protection of these saints . The paper was enriched by many curious illustrations , and will form a most interesting feature of the forthcoming number of the " Transactions of the Lodge . " The discussion which always follow these papers was maintained by Bros . C . Purdon Clarke , G . VV . Speth , E . Conder , jun ., and the Rev . J . W . Horsley , and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded our eminent Belgium brother . The members , to the number of 50 , subsequently dined at the Ho ' . born Restaurant .

The M . E . Z . was a most able and zealous worker in the Craft , and doubtless would hive shone with equal lustre in the Rjyal Arch Degree . It was to be hoped that ere he left the chair the M . E . Z . would have an opportunity of distinguishing himself .
The M . E . Z . having replied , gave " The H . and J . " In the course of his remarks he mentioned that the Second Principal and M . E . Z . elect had been requested by a large number of brethren to present himself as a candidate for the office of Grand Treasurer of England . Comp . Marshall had consented . The M . E . Z . elect— ' . ike his late popular and benevolent father—had been , and was still , a great supporter of all charitable bodies in London . He ( the speaker ) believed that Comp . Neville-Rolfe , her Majesty ' s Consul at Naples , who had shortly befere received it from a street sweeper , who had found it with some rubbish thrown away in the stieet . Bro . Rolfe suggested that as it appeared to be of French make it might be a lelic of the French occupation of Naples under Prince Murat at the beginning of the century . Bro . Speth pointed out that although French in appearance it differed in many respects from any French apron he had ever seen . The W . owing to its nature this would be unsatisfactory , as the colours , spangles , and tinsel did not lend themselves to this process . He feared they must be contented with a handm ade and coloured drawing of it for the museum of the lodge . Bro . T . H . Hobbs sent for exhibition and presentation to the lodge a splendidly preserved print of the curious and amusing engraving called " The Freemasons surpriz'd , or , the Secret discover'd . "
It represented an alleged occurrence in a Canterbury lodge , the Masons being surprised by the sudden appearance through the ceiling of the lower limbs of the chambermaid , wh o , having hidden in the garret in order to surprise their secrets , had accidentally fallen through the lath and plaster . The print is well known to antiquaries , but somewhat scarce , especially if in good condition . The thanks of the lodge were given to the exhibitors and donor .
The paper for the evening was by Count Goblet d'Alviella , Past Grand Master of Belgium , and related to the" Quatuor Coronati in Belgium . " It gave in great detail most interesting particulars of several corporations of the building trades in various cities of Flanders , with copies of their charges , & c , dating from the 15 th century , which had assumed the name of Quatuor Coronati giVds , placing themselves under the
protection of these saints . The paper was enriched by many curious illustrations , and will form a most interesting feature of the forthcoming number of the " Transactions of the Lodge . " The discussion which always follow these papers was maintained by Bros . C . Purdon Clarke , G . VV . Speth , E . Conder , jun ., and the Rev . J . W . Horsley , and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded our eminent Belgium brother . The members , to the number of 50 , subsequently dined at the Ho ' . born Restaurant .

Z ., " the proposer congratulated the First Principal upon the manner in which he had discharged the duties of his position , but regretted that no candidate for exaltation had been torthcoming during thc year . The M . E . Z . was a most able and zealous worker in the Craft , and doubtless would hive shone with equal lustre in the Rjyal Arch Degree . It was to be hoped that ere he left the chair the M . E . Z . would have an opportunity of distinguishing himself .
The M . E . Z . having replied , gave " The H . and J . " In the course of his remarks he mentioned that the Second Principal and M . E . Z . elect had been requested by a large number of brethren to present himself as a candidate for the office of Grand Treasurer of England . Comp . Marshall had consented . The M . E . Z . elect— ' . ike his late popular and benevolent father—had been , and was still , a great supporter of all charitable bodies in London . He ( the speaker ) believed that Comp . Marshall ' s candidature would be
