CONSECRATION OF THE ARCADIAN LODGE , No . 2696 .

The Arcadian Lodge , No . 2696 , was consecrated at the Hotel Cecil , Strand , on the 7 th instant , in the presence of a goodly gathering cf Masons . The new Iodge will be restricted almost entirely to brethren interested in the

subject of food reform , and the banquets will be on vegetarian principles . At the inaugural meeting this novelty was keenly criticised by the visitors present , the dinner consisting of fish , vegetables , and fruit only , and the general opinion appeared to be that the meal had been a thoroughly enjoyable one .

Bro . E . Letchworth , G . Sec , was assisted in the consecration ceremony by Bros . Alderman Vaughan Morgan , G . Treasurer , as S . W . ; F . Mead , P . G . S . B ., as J . W . ; Rev . J . S . Brownrigg , P . G . C , as Chap . ; Frank Richardson , P . G . D ., as D . C . ; and W . Lake , A . G . Sec , as I . G . Bro . J . Rossdale , P . M . 1017 and 1828 , was the W . M . designate ,

supported by the following founders : B-os . S . H . Parkhouse , P . M . 1642 and 511 ; P . C . Beard , 1000 and 1734 , Prov . G . Stwd . Essex ; Ernest VV . Beard , 1642 ; C J . Hurt , 1642 ; A , White , 201 ; C . E . Hurton , 1734 ; and E . C . L . Bradley , 1642 . •There was a large number of visitors present .

The Consecrating Officer having appointed his officers pro tem ., the lodge was opened and a hymn sung . The CONSECRATING OFFICER , in addressing the brethren on the natur e of the meeting , said they had met on an occasion which could not fail to be of the deepest interest to all the brethren present—to start a new lodge into

existence to be called the Arcadian Lodge . He hoped it might fulfil all the objects the founders had in view , and wished it a future of unbroken prosperity . He then called upon the Chaplain for the opening prayer . The founders signified their approval of the officers named in the warrant and Bro . Rev . J . S . BROWNRIGG , P . G . Chap ., then delivered an interesting and eloquent oration on the nature and principles of the Order .

The elements of consecration were sprinkled and the lodge was duly conse ; rated with all the accustomed formalities . The musical portions of the ceremony were ably rendered by B o . H . VV . Schartau , assisted by Bros . Edward Branscombe and Frederick Bevan .

Bro . Jas . Rossdale was installed as the first W . M . by the Grand Secretary and afterwards invested the following officers—Bros . S . H . Parkhouse , P . M ., acting I . P . M . ; P . E . Beard , S . W . ; E . W . Beard , J . VV . ; E . C . L . Bradley , Sec . ; C Johnstone Burt , S . D . ; Alfred White , J . D . ; C . E . Burton , I . G . ; and Samuel Ellis , P . M ., Tyler .

It was unanimously agreed , on the proposition of , the W . M ., seconded by the ACTING I . P . M ., that a hearty vote of thanks should be accorded the Consecrating Officers , and they were elected honorary members of the lodge . The GRAND SECRETARY , as the mouthpiece of his colleagues , acknowledged the compliment and expressed their pleasure at being present .

The W . M . explained that a small souvenir of the occasion—in the brm of a match box , enamelled with the crest of the lodge—which was intended for presentation to the Consecrating Officers was not complete , but asked them to kindly accept the gift when forwarded to them at a later date .

A letter was read from Mr . Sydney H . B : ard , editor of the Herald of lite Golden Age , congratulating the founders on the establishment of the lodge , expressing the hope that it w > uld be lhe means of inducing brethren to take an interest in food rcljrm , and asking the W . M . ' s acceptance of a handsome basket of flowers .

Propositions were received and the lo Ige was closed . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet , after wh ch the usual toasts followed .

The resolution was carried by acclamation . The G . SOVEREIGN said he was afraid there was not a great deal of work attached to his position but what there was to do he was happy to perform . He sincerely thanked them for their confidence in re-electing him and would do what he could for the prosperity of the Order in the future .

The HERALD having proclaimed the Earl of Euston as G . Sovereign , Viscount Dungarvan was unanimously re-elected G . Viceroy . The G . SOVEREIGN mentioned that Viscount Dungarvan was away fishing in America and would thank them on his return home . The GRAND RECORDER said he regretted to announce that Col . A . B . Cook felt he could not seek re-election as Grand Treasurer owing to his
