THE P RIME MINISTER and the Marchioness of Salisbury made the first stage of their journey to the Continent on Tuesday afternoon , when they travelled from Hatfield to London . Her ladyship , who was accompanied by Lord Hugh Cecil , came to King ' s Cross Station by train , and drove to Arlington-street in an open carriage . . In order to avoid the discomfort of the double change between train and carriage at Hatfield and King ' s Cross the Prime Minister drove to town by road , and was accompanied in his brougham

PRINCESS CHRISTIAN OF SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN , with her Highness Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein , visited the Queen on Tuesday , and remained to luncheon . IT IS ANNOUNCED that the dates of the Drawing Rooms to be held after Easter are not yet fixed . No names ior presentation can be received until official notice is given to that effect .
THE STATE APARTMENTS of Windsor Castle will be open to the public on and after Monday next , the 14 th inst ., on every week day , Wednesdays excepted , under the usual regulations , until further orders . THE ANNUAL MEETING of the London Society for the Extension of University Teaching will be held in the Mansion House , on Saturday , the 23 rd prox ., Bro . the Lord Mayor presiding . Mr . THE DUKE OF BEAUFORT , who , like his father and grandfather before him , has alwajs taken a great interest in the Badminton Hunt , was on Saturday last presented by members with his portrait , as a memento of long and pleasant associations , the interesting ceremony taking place at a lawn meet at Badminton House , the seat of the Somerset family . Upwards of a thousand subscribers contrituted to the picture , for which the Duke gave sittings at Stoke , the artist being Mr . Ellis Roberts . The presentation took place in North Hall , and only a tithe of the people who were present at the meet were able to enter the apartment . The Duke and Duchess had driven from Stoke early in the

THE P RIME MINISTER and the Marchioness of Salisbury made the first stage of their journey to the Continent on Tuesday afternoon , when they travelled from Hatfield to London . Her ladyship , who was accompanied by Lord Hugh Cecil , came to King ' s Cross Station by train , and drove to Arlington-street in an open carriage . . In order to avoid the discomfort of the double change between train and carriage at Hatfield and King ' s Cross the Prime Minister drove to town by road , and was accompanied in his brougham
by Lady Gwendoline Cecil . Barnet was reached at three o'clock , and the carriage drew up at the Salisbury Arms , where the horses were changed . Arlington-street was reached at 4 . 25 . The Marquis is very much better , but his medical advisers wish him to be spared for the present all official work , except what is positively urgent , as the weakness which has followed the influenza is easily inclined to feverishness . The date of the departure of the Marquis and Marchioness for Beaulieu is not yet fixed .

THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF WESTMINSTER have returned to Grosvenor . House , after a three weeks' stay at the Osborne Hotel , Torquay . H . R . H . PRINCESS CHRISTIAN OF SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN , with her Highness Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein , visited the Queen on Tuesday , and remained to luncheon . IT IS ANNOUNCED that the dates of the Drawing Rooms to be held after Easter are not yet fixed . No names ior presentation can be received until official notice is given to that effect .
THE STATE APARTMENTS of Windsor Castle will be open to the public on and after Monday next , the 14 th inst ., on every week day , Wednesdays excepted , under the usual regulations , until further orders . THE ANNUAL MEETING of the London Society for the Extension of University Teaching will be held in the Mansion House , on Saturday , the 23 rd prox ., Bro . the Lord Mayor presiding . Mr . Asquith will deliver the customary address .
BRO . THE EARL OF HALSBURY makes an appeal on behalf of the Church of England Young Men's Society , of which he is president . The head-quarters are at Leopold Rooms , Ludgate-circus , where a useful work is being carried on . SINCE THE OPENING of the exhibition of the late Bro . Sir F . Lockwood ' s sketches , the number of visitors has been remarkable , and the daily attendances seem to be increasing . Visits have been paid not only by H . R . H . the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York , but by most of those who are the subject of the artist ' s fancy .
BRO . EMRA HOLMES has been appointed District Collector H . M . Customs Harwich , which includes Ipswich , Woodbridge , and Aldeburgh . Over 20 years ago Bro . Holmes was stationed at Ipswich , at which time he contributed constantly to our columns and to the pages of the " Masonic Monthly , " but he has been for the pist ro vears in Guernsey and Ireland , and latterly in Scotland , at Aberdeen . Bro . Emra Holmes ' _ " Notes on the United Orders of the Temple and Hospital , " published in our columns in 1 S 72 , caused some controversy at the time . They were translated into French and published in La Verite .
ON TUESDAY night it was decided to hold a Parliamentary Golf Handicap again this Session , the competition being open to both Houses , as well as to officials and Press representatives . Entries which close on Monday , the 21 st inst ., are to be made with Bro . Hayes-Fisher , one of the Government Whips . There is every prospect of a large field , and Mr . ON THURSDAY , the 3 rd inst ., a most successful dance was held in Dingwell under the auspices of the Fingal Lodge . There were upwaids of 70 couples present , and these included a number of representatives from the Inverness and other northern lodges . Bro . Capt . THE DUKE OF BEAUFORT , who , like his father and grandfather before him , has alwajs taken a great interest in the Badminton Hunt , was on Saturday last presented by members with his portrait , as a memento of long and pleasant associations , the interesting ceremony taking place at a lawn meet at Badminton House , the seat of the Somerset family . Upwards of a thousand subscribers contrituted to the picture , for which the Duke gave sittings at Stoke , the artist being Mr . Ellis Roberts . The presentation took place in North Hall , and only a tithe of the people who were present at the meet were able to enter the apartment . The Duke and Duchess had driven from Stoke early in the
morning , and the house-party consisted of the Marquis and Marchioness of Worcester , the Hon . Henry Curzon , Mr . VV . H . Harford , Sir Thomas Dancer , and Mr . John Fuller .
