would bring honour to the lodge by his further efforts in that direction . Under the rule of the W . M . he had every hope that the prosperity of the lodge would be materially increased , and take a position second to none in the metropolis , both for excellent working and harmony , and above all as a mover in the sacred cause of charity and brotherly love . He asked them to give the VV . M . a jolly

good fire . The toast having been drunk with enthusiasm , the VV . M . said he should be as brief as possible in his response . The position he now occupied was one that he had long and ardently looked forward to , and he trusted had worked hard for . It ivas a proud position , and one that he felt the responsibilities of . Their esteemed I . P . M .

had spoken very kindly of his work in the ceremony of initiation that day , but he hoped to be able to do it better the next time . He would promise them that nothing should be wanting on bis side to increase the strength , and , therefore , the financial position of the lodge , and in that he asked the cordial co-operation of the brethren ; not that he wanted strength at the expense

The banquet was a superb illustration of the consummate art that can be brought to bear upon the production of appetising and tempting dishes , while the wines were all that a connoisseur would have delighted in , and the whole effort reflects the highest credit ' upon the taste and resources of Bro . West . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , the I . P . M . rose to propose the toast

of the evening , that of " The VV . M ., and in so doing congratulated the lodge upon having such a Master to preside over its destinies for the next twelve months . The clear and finished manner in which he had that afternoon initiated two candidates , gave them a pretty clear insight into what they might expect at his hands , while his wellknown efforts in the cause of the Charities of the Order

would bring honour to the lodge by his further efforts in that direction .
