intimated a few days ago that if I could obtain nine others who would give £ 5 he would make the tenth . Brethren , with that object in view , I feel many here will place their names on this card as one of them . [ This appeal , we are happy to be in a position to state , immediately resulted in over seventy guineas being subscribed . ]

The Worshipful Master subsequently rose , and expressed how proud and p leased he was at the result . It had realized a larger sum than he dared to hope for , and he felt at a loss to express his deep feelings of gratitude to those visitors who had so nobly responded to his appeal . He tendered his and the lodge's warmest thanks , but at present he felt quite unable to convey them . Nothing but a

feeling of great responsibility would have induced him to appeal to them at such a time , and he hoped to have a future opportunity to express more fully but not more sincerely his thanks . Bro . F . Rayner , S . W ., rose , and said it afforded him much pleasure to propose the toast that had been assigned him , viz ., that of "The I . P . M ., Bro . John Bailey . " The W . M . was very fortunate in having such a zealous Mason and hard worker as Bro . Bailey had proved himself to be

as his I . P . M . during the past year , in the great undertaking which the W . M . entered into and carried out so successfully , viz ., the Masonic Exhibition . Bro . Bailey had supported him most loyally and nobly . He had given up time which might be reckoned by weeks , and thrown in an immense amount of labour before and during the Exhibition , and he well deserved all the honour the W . M . was

able to bestow on him in connection with that great event , as he had assisted the W . M . more than anyone else in immortalising the name of Chine Lodge on the roll of Masonic fame . Brethren , I give you the toast of our "I . P . M ., Bro . J . Bailey , " and feel sure you will _ show your appreciation of his past services by receiving it with the enthusiasm it deserves .

Bro . M . Linfield gave " The Visiting Brethren , " making special complimentary allusion to the presence of representatives of the Prov . Grand Lodges of Devon and Cheshire . Bro . Chapman , P . P . G . D . Devon , responding , said : It has given me great pleasure to b <; at the installation of Bro . Greenham to-day , and to be present here to-night . The efforts of mine to help your W . M . have been most

kindly alluded to to-day in lodge and now again this evening . I hope that the lodge will have another prosperous year of office under him . Bro . Hinde , P . M ., P . P . G . R ., Chester , thanked them for the opportunity given him to express his thanks to the W . M . for inviting him to be present that day . He witnessed the perfect way in which the Installing Master had done

the installation ceremony , and how well the W . VI . and officers did their work . He had never visited a lodge in which it had been performed more efficiently . He had been in Shanklin four months , and it has been one of the most pleasurable times of his life , and he hoped in the latter part of the year to come again amongst them . He should always remember the kind way in which he had been

treated in Shanklin , and not least among his pleasurable recollections would be the cordial and gracious welcome given him that day . Bro . Chapman gave a recitation on the "Three Degrees in Masonry . " It was rendered in a splendid style and listened to with profound attention , and at its conclusion Bro . Chapman received congratulations and thanks from

all . The recitation embraced the obligations ot Masonry , and was given in a very earnest manner . "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Francis Newman , P . P . S . G . W ., P . M ., " was proposed in a highly eulogistic speech by Bro . McQueen , who spoke of the debt of gratitude which all the Island lodges were under to Bro . Newman for assistance and advice .

In response to the toast , Bro . Newman remarked it would be affectation to say that he was not pleased to hear the kind way in which he had been so frequently referred to , but he was afraid their own good feelings towards him had led them to take too favourable a view of his services . Bro . William Judd proposed "The Past Masters , " and passed in review the services Bro . Bailey had rendered to

the lodge during his year . £ 100 was raised by voluntary loan to pay off the debt on the hall , and the present W . M ., Bro . Greenham , his most intimate friend , whom he had specially come down from London to see again installed , had also raised £ 100 . Last year he came from Manchester to see him in his proud position , and now to-day he had again that pleasure . In coupling the toast with Bro .

Bailey he felt sure he has loyally supported the W . M . during the past year , and would continue to do so again . Bro . Bailey responded , commenting upon the pleasure it had given him to supplement the efforts of the W . M . in connection with the Exhibition , the prosperity of Chine

Lodge being a matter he had at heart . If in any way he had contributed to that result he felt he was amply repaid for the trouble he had taken . The remaining Jtoasts having been given and responded to , the Tyler ' s toast brought a very successful meeting to a close .

On the return of the brethren , Bro . Block duly invested his officers , and Bro . Squire gave the charges in first-class style . The annnal election of oliicers then took place , when Bros .

Ferguson , Silvester , and Dimsdale were unanimously re-elected Preceptor , Treasurer , and Secretary for the coming vear . Th-ee Auditors were appointed , and Bro . Larkin , I . G . 3 , was elected a member . A hearty vo-e of thanks was g iven to Bro . Squire for the admirable way in which he had worked the ceremonies , and he was unanimously elected an honorary member .
