Woodward , 548 ; F . P . Ansle , Sec , and C . Riddick , of 551 .

The minutes of the last regular lodge having been read and confirmed , the W . M . read letters of apology from the following : Bros . J . E . LeFeuvre , D . P . G . M . ; E . Goble , Prov . G . Sec . ; C . Somerset Calthorpe , P . G . W . ; F . W . Popham , W . Dawes , P . P . S . G . W . Sussex ; Stevens , P . M . ; George Kenning , P . M . ; W . Lake , P . M . ; Dr . Dabbs , W . J . P . M . 175 ; Martin , P . M . 175 ; Dashwood , W . M . 69 S ; and others . The VV . M . proponed that the sum of £ 10 ios . be voted to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , at which Festival the Provincial Grand Master of Hampshire , R . W . Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., would preside in February , saying it was the duty of every lodge in the province to support the P . G . M . on that occasion . Having

previously presented the Audit Couimittee report , he submitted to the brethren that , notwithstanding the balance as read to them in the yearly account caused by their efforts to reduce the debt , he felt that sum would be cheerfully voted , and soon recouped by the Lodge Charity Fund . This was seconded by Bro . John Bailey , LP . M ., and carried unanimously . Bro . F . Newman , P . M ., thanked the brethren

for putting it on his list , and was pleased the lodge was doing its utmost to support the Provincial Grand Master . The ceremony of re-installing Bro . Greenham was most accurately and impressively performed by Bro . Francis Newman , P . P . S . G . W . On taking the chair the W . M . invested his officers for the ensuing year as follows : Bros , lohn Bailey , LP . M . ; F . Rayner , S . VV . ; J . H . McQueen ,

J . W . ; F . Cooper , P . P . G . S ., P . M ., Treas . ; Lewis Colenutf , Sec ; A . F . Swayne , S . D . ; H . A . Matthews , J . D . ; W . Thompson , Reg . ; William Deeks , D . of C ; R . W . Greenham , l . G . ; R . Young . and G . H . Matthews , Stwds . ; and W . J . Mew , Tyler . Before the lodge business was concluded , avoteof thanks was accorded to Bro . F . Newman , the Installing Master . The W . M . said he was pleased

Bro . Newman had rendered the whole ceremony again , for it gave all present an opportunity of witnessing , not only the impressive manner , but the very accurate way in which the ritual was carried out , giving all the younger VV Masters present the benefit of his large Masonic experience , acquired not only in the Province of Hampshire , but in London . Bro . F . Newman , P . M ., expressed the

pleasure it was to him to instal the W . M . a second time , and thanked the lodge for its vote of thanks , although , as one of its Past Masters , he was only doing his duty . The W . M . then proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Chapman for his great kindness in giving a lecture the previous week on " The Great Pyramid and Freemasonry , " wishing it to be recorded on the minutes of the lodge . It was a lecture

listened to by a large and appreciative audience , and resulted in a good sum being realized for the benefit of the lodge . It was exceedingly kind of Bro . Chapman to help him , at a risk of his health , and he was sure every member of the lodge not only listened with attention and pleasure to his admirable lecture , but felt indebted to him for helping Chine Lodge . Bro . Chapman , P . M ., P . P . G . D . Devon ,

said he was sure it gave him great pleasure to find the lecture so highly spoken of , and also to find such good financial results . He felt after the great effort of the W . M . in promoting the Exhibition last year , it was his duty to assist him now , and he thanked them for the kind reception given to him . Bro . F . Rayner , S . W ., presented a pretty little inkstand for the use of the Secretary , saying that the

lodge had long been in want of one , which had been remarked by the W . M . at the previous meeting , which led him to give it . The W . M . proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Rayner for the gift , which was carried with applause . The W . M . having expressed his pleasure in seeing the Grand Chaplain of England , Bro . the Rev . J . N . Palmer , present . The lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned

to Daish's Hotel , where a recherche banquet was provided by the proprietor , Mr . Colenutt . The table was very richly decorated . The toast of "The Queen and the Craft" was given from the chair , the W . M . remarking he intended speaking on her Majesty's Jubilee later in the evening . The brethren sang standing " God save the Queen . "

Ihe toast of "H . R . H . the Princeof Wales" was given from the chair , and received with much enthusiasm . Song— " God bless the Prince of Wales . " Bro . Francis Newman proposed " The M . W . Pro Grand Master of England , the Earl of Carnarvon ; the R . W . Deputy Grand Master , the Earl of Lathom j and the Officers and Past Officers of the Grand Lodge . " Bro .

Newman said they were all glad that their excellent Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Le Feuvre , had been selected for a high office in Grand Lodge , and they were honoured by the presence in that room of the Grand Chaplain , Bro . the Rev . J . N . Palmer , who had always taken the greatest interest in local lodges , and Chine Lodge in particular , since he had resided in the Island . He

remarked that he never had the pleasure of proposing this toast in the presence of the Grand Officer , and he was sure it was not a privilege often enjoyed by the members present , therfore it would be met with the reception it deserved . Bro . the Rev . J . N . Palmer , in responding to the toast , said he was glad that the importance of the Province of

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight was now more adequately recognised , and that it furnished this year no less than three officers to Grand Lodge . It had been a great pleasure to himself to see every Master installed the Chine Lodge had yet had . He had heard the Masonic exhibition which was held in Shanklin last year highly praised in London , where the opinion was held that it reflected

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

great credit on Bro . Greenham and the Chine Lodge , and had been of considerable benefit to Masonry in general . Bro . McQueen proposed " The R . VV . Prov . G . M . of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight , Bro . W . W . B . Beech , M . P ., the V . W . the D . P . G . M .,- Bro . J . E . Le Feuvre , J . G . D . of England ; and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officevs , Present and Past . " The speaker

alluded to the excellent way in which the work of Provincial Grand Lodge was carried out by Bro . Beach , and said it behoved the members of the province to make a special effort to support their P . G . M . in the office he had this year taken , viz ., that of Chairman of the Benevolent Institution . He also referred in complimentary terms to the way in which Bro . Newman had carried out that day ' s

ceremony . In coupling the name of Bro Lowe , P . J . G . D ., with it , he felt sure all he said of the Prov . G . Master and officers would be endorsed . Song , Bro . McQueen , "The Flying Dutchman . " In the course ot his response to the toast Bro . Lowe , P . J . G . D ., fully endorsed the opinion of the previous speaker as to the special claims the Benevolent Institution

this year had on the province . In proposing " The Worshipful Master of the Chine Lodge , Bro . Alfred Greenham , " Bro . Francis Newman said it was with much pleasure he had installed Bro . Greenham in the chair of the lodge for the second time , ln the interval much had been done , and Bro . Greenham had made his name famous among Masons by his exertions in

promoting the recent exhibition . They had always known his merits in Shanklin , but now they were recognised throughout the country . He had had the pleasure of installing Bro . Greenham on a previous occasion , and could truthfully say that he could not have installed any one with greater pleasure than he had felt on that occasion . He refrained from saying in Bro . Greenham's presence what

he deired to give utterance to , but would congratulate him on being able to look back upon a year of office which would be memorable in the annals of Chine Lodge . Song , Bro . Firth , "Just in time . " Bro . Greenham , who was received with loud and continued cheering , then ruse , and said : Brethren , I rise with considerable pleasure to thank Bro . Newman for the very

kind acknowledgment he has made of my services to this lodge . It is a great gratification to me to find not only Chine Lodge brethren but visitors have expressed so warmly their appreciation ; but while I so briefly allude to those kind expressions of good will , do not think my remembrance of them will be equally short lived , and while I should have been proud to review the past year , a year which it would

have given me pleasure to refer to , 1 must not do , as I am anxious to use the time usually allotted to the W . M . in placing before you rather what I hope to do in the coming year ot my office , and which , with your permission and indulgence , I am anxious to lay before you . Now , brethren of Chine Lodge , you have elected me unanimously to fill the chair a second time , but while I am

very proud of the honour , I am equally conscious of the responsibility which devolves on me , and which weighs heavily on me when I consider we have a large debt upon our hall , which if any of you can look upon with a light heart is because your interest is light also , but although I am proud of our lodge , the pleasure I feel is very much marred by that millstone of a debt which hangs heavily

around us . Now , brethren , this being the year of Jubilee , while it is our bounden duty to show our appreciation of Queen Victoria ' s splendid reign , let us combine with it an object which , while its present purpose shall be a celebration of it , yet will hand on to a distant future our commemoration of so great an event , and at the same time perpetuate the names of all those who participate in it . Such a Queen

as ours demands from every Mason ( whose watchword , our Grand Master said , is " Loyalty " ) , and deserves , some recognition . While you have heard to-day the scheme of your Pro Grand Master—a proposal which might be called the "Imperial , " and fitted for the realm over which her Majesty reigns—listen for a few minutes to your VVorshipful Master ' s , which must , of course , be essentially local . 1

propose , brethren , to place in Chine Lodge a commemoration tablet or monument , the design of which shall be hereafter determined , with the names and the number of the lodges , with their lodge rank and their Grand or P . G . Lodge rank inscribed , or carved , or engraved thereon of every member who shall subscribe not less than a guinea . Now , brethren , 1 hope to save a considerable sum and apply it to

the debt on the building , and I call upon you earnestly , every member of the Chine Lodge , to support me in this undertaking . If , in conclusion , 1 might venture to address the visitors who have honoured me by attending my installation to-day , I would say if your generous impulses prompt you to help me , then will be engraved upon that monument a record of your generosity and sympathy with this little

struggling lodge . There , brethren , will appear your names , engraved , I trust , in marble , marking our appreciation of the Queen ' s Jubilee , and yet handing down to generations of Masons yet unborn your zeal and sympathy with this little lodge . I trust , brethren , this monument will remain in Chine Lodge ( for assuredly it will be placed there ) for centuries after you and I have gone to the Grand Lodge

above , there to tell with an imperishable memory to succeeding generations of Masons your appreciation of so great and so good a Queen and your desire to hand on our hall freer of debt than you found it . Now , brethren , this is a golden opportunity to record your names in the history of this lodge , and surround them with a lustre around whir . h time will encircle her marks of renown . This is a

Jubilee opportunity that probably none of us will ever again live to see . Let us , therefore , rise to the occasion , and hand on a heirloom worthy of acceptance to the future members of this lodge , which has had for its first Master the foremost literary man in the Island , Bro . Dr . Dabbs , and for its second one of the finest Masons in the province , Bro . F . Newman . Brethren , in conclusion , I have the

great honour to announce that the Chine Lodge Jubilee Commemoration Fund will be under the direct and immediate patronage of the R . W . Prov . G . M ., Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P . I have also the pleasure and honour to announce that 1 have the patronage of your Dep . Prov . G . M ., Bro . J . E . Le Feuvre , G . D . of England , who has given a handsome donation ; and , brethren , I have the

honour to announce that the Lord of the Manor of Shanklin , Bro . F . White Popham , with his characteristic generosity and desire to help the Chine Lodge , has given a magnanimous contribution . I feel 1 cannot to-night express my feelings of gratitude for this splendid generosity , nor convey in any adequate way how highly I esteem their noble support . One of the Past Masters of this lodge

SHANKLIN . —Chine Lodge ( So . 1884 ) . —At the regular meeting of this lodge , held at the Masonic Hall , on Thursday , the 27 th ult ., the VV . M ., Bro .

He had heard the Masonic exhibition which was held in Shanklin last year highly praised in London , where the opinion was held that it reflected

great credit on Bro .
