PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF DEVONSHIRE .
The Provincial Grand Lodge of Devon was held at Teignmouth , on Wednesday , the 1 st inst ., when about 400 brethren were present . The business commenced with the Committee of Petitions , who met at the Assembly Rooms , at 11 . 30 , Bro . Major G . C . Davie , Prov . G . Secretary , presiding . The CHAIRMAN announced that the Committee had £ 214 to dispose of . There were nine petitions for relief , some of which , however , were withdrawn , and in the other cases various sums were voted . Twenty guineas were voted to each of the Royal Masonic Institutions for Boys , Girls , Aged Freemasons and the Widows of Freemasons , and the total sum voted absorbed the whole of the available balance .
The Provincial Grand Lodge was opened at 2 p . m ., at the East Devon and Teignmouth Club . Bro . Viscount Ebrington not having arrived , Bro . W . G . Rogers , D . P . G . M ., presided . Bros , the Rev . H . G . Morse , P . G . Chap ., and W . J . Hughan , P . S . G . D ., represented the Grand Lodee of England , the former acting as D . P . G . M . Bros . J . Brewer , as P . S . G . W . pro tern . ; Capt . J . S . Strode-Lowe , P . J . G . W . ; the Rev . Dr . Lemon ,
P . G . Chap . ; Ma ] Or G . C . Davie , P . G . Sec . ; and the other officers . The P . G . SECRETARY reported that the returns from the lodges in the Province for the year ending December last showed that there were then 3138 Masons on the books , an increase of 38 . There are 767 Past Masters of lodges . The P . G . Treasurer ( Bro . GREGORY ) reported that the receipts for the year had been £ 685 , and expenditure £ 430 , leaving a balance of £ 255 .
The Committee of the Fortescue Annuity Fund reported that there were now five annuitants on the fund , and for a vacancy caused by the death of Bro . Simon Hvne , of Lodge No . 1205 , five applications had been received . The election will take place on September nth . The revised rules of the Fortescue Annuity Fund , as adopted at the annual meeting of the Governors held at Exeter on July 3 rd , were submitted and approved .
Ihe Committee of Petitions reported that their efforts to obtain and concentrate the votes of the province for the great Charities had been fairly successful . Notwithstanding the large number of votes the province owed , they had succeeded in electing a candidate to the Boys' School , and reduced the votes owing from 4056 to 2974 . They felt grateful that their credit was
so good that other provinces were always ready to assist Devon in any time of need ; but it must not be forgotten that for many years they had been receivingbenefits far in excess of the amounts subscribed , ancj . that they should endeavour to ' impress upon the lodges ' their duty ' to do ' much more for the Charities than they had hitherto done .

The report of Grand Committee that Bro . Col . Hiry Lumsden of Pitcaple be appointed Grand Master of Aberdeenshire ( West ) was adopted ; as was also the recommendations that Bros . William B . Melisl and George Mackenzie be appointed representatives to the Grand Lodge of Ohio and Kansas respectively .
