Annual Banquet Of The Logic Club.
istence whose founders and principal supporters are members of the professions to which vve refer , and the probabilities are that some credit must be given for setting the ball rolling , vvhich for the credit of Masonry may , we trust , continue to roll . The CHAIRMAN , in proposing the toast of the evening , " Continued Prosperity to the Logic Club , " in the course of his remarks observed that the ideas of the
founders , although two out of the three had gone over to the great majority , had been faithfully kept , and the club vvas always at its good work . Bros . Maclean and Buckland vvere members of the Asaph Lodge , and produced by their earnestness a marked change upon its
officers in the direction of efficiency and punctuality , and he vvas indeed g lad to see the Logic Club was a fitting monument to their memory . The toast vvas coupled with the name of the Secretary , Bro . J . Percy Fitzgerald , and drunk vvith
enthusiasm . In acknowled g ing the same , Bro . FITZGERALD gave a few interesting particulars of the work done during the year , and the number of meetings held , and in the course of his remarks observed that at the present moment there existed at least io members of the club svho were Masters of lodges held in the London district .
The toast of " The Visitors " svas coupled with the names of Bros . Lennox Browne , Vice-President of the Board of General Purposes , and G . W . Anson . Bro . LE . NNOX BROWNE said it gave him more than pleasure to be present at the annual meetings of the Club , because , in addition to the splendid entertainment always provided , the proceedings were marked by
a conviviality and surroundings that made it difficult indeed to discover a fault . On the Board of General Purposes he first had the pleasure of meeting the Chairman of that ni ght , Bro . Fairchild , and he could now understand how it vvas that he was so perfect a master of detail . His knowledge of the Craft in general vvas due in great measure to his coming in contact with
the many good members of that Club , vvho were men of experience in Masonic matters . He had the privilege of being a founder of an important London lodge , and had watched the progress of that lodge , particularly during the last tsvo years , vvith a degree of satisfaction . His surprise vvas great when he discovered amom-stthe officers of that lodge two who were members
of his own profession , that they suddenly became so proficient in the ritual , when from the svorst of junior officers they became the best of Masters . ( Hear , hear ) . He was glad of the cheer from that brother , svho knew to svhom he referred . In his capacity he had little opportunity of attending the Club as a member , but he hoped vcry soon to do so . He trusted its prosperity ivou d continue .
Bro . G . W . ANSON also replied , and said that being his first visit , he svas unable to follow the last speaker through his interesting particulars from actual experience , but so interesting a gathering as he had the privilege of being amongst that night would alsvays serve to remind him of the Logic Club . Bro . R . VV . CUMMINGS next proposed" The Masonic
Charities , " and in doing so referred vvith pleasure to the presence amongst them of Bro . James Terry , and coupled the toast wilh his name . In reply , Bro . James Terry , P . G . S . B ., Sec R . M . B . I ., said how much pleasure it gave him to come tor the first time as a guest of this Club , although its members he seemed constantly to meet in other places , and those brethren had helped to swell considerably the
amount collected at the last festival of the Institution he had the honour of representing , and which was the largest amount ever collected at any charity festival in the world . Long may the Logic Club continue its good and noble woi k , Bro . SAM JOHNSON proposed "The Health of the Chairman " at a late hour , svhich was drunk vvith all honours .
The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bros . Charles Tinney and Frederick Burgess , and were contributed to b y Bros . May , Gasvthrop , Stevens , Master Albert Lee , John Le Hay , Mr . Allen Morris , Curtis D'Alton , Cousins , and many others . Mr . C OOL K ENNEDY , of the Moor and Burgess
Minstrels , delivered his svell-knosvn lecture , svhich was received svith every evidence of delight . The celebrated Trombone Quartet looked in on their svay home from the London Symphony Concerts , and rendered their extraordinary performance on their much abused instrument , which was re-demanded .
