Bro . Carter , in returning thanks said it _ was a fact that he had just stepped out of the chair in svhich he svas placed 12 months ago , and hardly realised his _ present position . But there svas one feeling uppermost in his mind , and that svas at once to thank them from his heart for their kind antl unvaried kindness to him during his year of office . He thanked them for helping him to take up as Stesvard the
handsome sum of £ 270 guineas , 50 guineas of svhich svas given from the lodge , and also for presenting him svith a jesvel svhich he should ever prize as one of the treasures of his life . When he left home that morning his child _ svished him every success , and he trusted that not only his child ,
but every one present , their children and their children's children , svould remember vvith joy and rejoicing the events of that auspicious occasion . " The Initiate " having been toasted , "' The Visitors " ssas the next toast , and Bro . Fisher spoke highly of the work of the VV . M . in both the initiation and installation
ceremonies . Bro . Syder said he had been at every installation of the lodge , and took great interest in it , as it vvas the sister lodge to his osvn . He fully concurred svith the W . M . that it svas the duty of every I . P . M . to install his successor , and he congratulated the VV . M . upon the excellent ofiicers he had , and prophesied for him a good and successful year of office .
Bro . Bolton congratulated the I . P . M . upon the excellence of his svorking of the ceremonies , and hoped to have the p leasure and honour of another invitation at an early date . Bro . Roberts responded for "The Past Masters " in a forcible and eloquent speech , and Bros . Oakley and Nesvton for "The Officers . " Some excellent singing by Bros . M ., proposed " Ihe Joining Brethren , " vvhich vvas acknosvledged by Bros . Forshasv and Davis , both of svhom thanked the brethren for the honour done in electing them to the membership of the lodge , and stated that it svould be their pleasure to do svhat they could tor the prosperity of the lodge .
"The Visiting Hrethren" svas proposed by Bro . VV . Critchley , J . P ., P . M ., svho expressed the pleasure it gave the lodge to entertain visitors . Bro . Last , 2321 , in responding , thanked the brethren for the hospitable manner the visitors had been received . It had afforded htm much pleasure to pay this his first visit to the lodge , of svhich several of his friends svere members , and hc svas pleased to learn of the Masonic advancement that svas in store for them .

The number of members svas not large , but they had an excellent list of Past M ssters . When he > vas at the Grand Lodge the previous evening he tried to obtain information as to svho their Prov . Grand Master svas likely to be , but could get no satisfactory reply . In responding to the toast of " The Prov . Grand Ofiicers
of Berks , " Bro . J . VV . Martin , P . G . Sec , placed all the credit of the present successful state of things to the D . P . G . M ., svhose svork he spoke of in eulogistic terms . All the lodges in the province had done svell , both as regards members and in their svork for Charities . The sum received for the latter amounted to £ 1400 , in addition to svhat had been contributed to old tolk . Since the nesv
Province of Berks had been formed they had got in their first boy , first girl , and first tsvo old people to the Masonic Institutions . He urged upon all to work together and combine when tbey bad a candidate they wished to push forsvard , and not go in for individual cases . All the lodges svere doing their svork successfully , and he could not help paying a tribute to the excellent manner in svhich the
