AN APPEAL . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother . Please allow me to make an appeal through your columns on behalf of the following sad case . The vicar of a small parish , a brother ot some standing , is suffering from general depression , severe head trouble , and loss of sight ; he is very poor , and the anxieties of life have pressed so hardly on him that he
has been reduced to this state of nervous debility . His doctors say that with complete rest and a short sea voyage all will come right again , but unless help is forthcoming it will be impossible to send him even the shortest voyage—to America . 1 shall be most grateful to any brother who will send me help for this very deserving case . I shall also be glad to give any information required . ( Canon ) W . HENRY COOPER , P . M . 209 S . Home of St . Barnabas , East Grinstead . 6 th October .

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS
The Quarterly Court of Subscribers to this Institution was held on Thursday at Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street , W . C , Bro . Henry Smith , P . G . D ., D . P . G . M . West Yorkshire , in the chair . The Chairman was supported by Bros . A . C . Spaull , Frank Richardson , Sir John B . Monckton , Charles Hammerton , R . Loveland Loveland , J . H . Matthews , and F . R . W . Hedges ( Secretary ) . Among the
brethren present were Bros . T . W . Whitmarsh , Walter Hopekirk , G . E . Fairchild , Oliver Papworth ( Cambridge ) , Robert Wylie , W . Goodacre , E . Tobias , J . W . Burgess , W . Vincent , W . Stevens , W . F . Smithson , W . Russell , P . G . Treas . Kent ; and many others .
Alter the minutes had been read and other formal business conducted , The CHAIRMAN said : Brethren , —Before I declare the poll open , I should like to refer for a few moments to the condition of the School . It is very gratifying to be able to report that everything under the new Head Governess is proceeding to the satisfaction of the House Committee . The children are all in excellent health and are now preparing for the Cambridge Local and other Examinations and also for examination in music . I can hardly refrain from
mentioning a circumstance which has occurred since our last meeting—I allude to the death of our friend , Brother Horace Brooks Marshall , for some years Treasurer of thjs Institution . He was a most liberal benefactor , not only to our Institutions , but also to many other Institutions in the City of London , and I am sure we all deeply regret his loss , not only to our Institution , but as a personal friend . ( Hear , hear . ) Brother Horace Brooks Marshall always devoted his large
number of votes , or nearly all of them , to last-chance cases , and it was a very kindly feeling that dictated that disposal of his votes ; seeing the children appeared to be neglected , it was always his desire to give them a helping hand , and although it might be they were not always the very best cases , still the kindly feeling was the same , and I think it is a wise practice for those who have not special cases to support to follow his example . Bro . Smith then declared the poll open , the Scrutineers having been already appointed .
The brethren afterwards proceeded to elect 19 out of 27 girls into the School .

THE NEW GRAND MASTER .
On Tuesday afternoon , the 29 th ult ., a special meeting of the executive and office-bearers of Grand Lodge was held in Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh , for the nomination of a Grand Master for the ensuing year . Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymp le , Bart ., M . P ., presided , and there were also present the Provincial Grand Mastrrs of Glasgow , Fife , Stirling , and Forfarshire , as well as Bro . Lord Saltoun from Aberdeen .
Bro . Sir CHARLES DALRVMHLE addressed the meeting , and returned his cordial thanks for the many acts of kindness that he had received from the Craft generally in Scotland . He had now been three years Grand Master , and it would be unfair , however kindly the Grand Lodge officials meant , for him again to acceDt nomination .
The officials generally expressed great regret at the decision of Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymple , but , considering the great services he had rendered , thought it would be unfair , and especially after his determination , to press him further . Accordingly , Bro . the Right Hon , Lord Saltoun was nominated and unanimously elected Grand Master Mason of Scotland to succeed Bro . Sir Charles
Dalrymple . Bro . Lord SALTOUN cordially thanked the executive for the honour they had conferred upon him , and hoped he would worthily follow in the footsteps of run predecessors .
