AN APPEAL . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother . Please allow me to make an appeal through your columns on behalf of the following sad case . The vicar of a small parish , a brother ot some standing , is suffering from general depression , severe head trouble , and loss of sight ; he is very poor , and the anxieties of life have pressed so hardly on him that he

has been reduced to this state of nervous debility . His doctors say that with complete rest and a short sea voyage all will come right again , but unless help is forthcoming it will be impossible to send him even the shortest voyage—to America . 1 shall be most grateful to any brother who will send me help for this very deserving case . West Yorkshire , in the chair . The Chairman was supported by Bros . A . C . Spaull , Frank Richardson , Sir John B . Monckton , Charles Hammerton , R . Loveland Loveland , J . H . Matthews , and F . R . W . Hedges ( Secretary ) . Among the

Alter the minutes had been read and other formal business conducted , The CHAIRMAN said : Brethren , —Before I declare the poll open , I should like to refer for a few moments to the condition of the School . It is very gratifying to be able to report that everything under the new Head Governess is proceeding to the satisfaction of the House Committee . The children are all in excellent health and are now preparing for the Cambridge Local and other Examinations and also for examination in music . I can hardly refrain from

mentioning a circumstance which has occurred since our last meeting—I allude to the death of our friend , Brother Horace Brooks Marshall , for some years Treasurer of thjs Institution . He was a most liberal benefactor , not only to our Institutions , but also to many other Institutions in the City of London , and I am sure we all deeply regret his loss , not only to our Institution , but as a personal friend . ( Hear , hear . ) Brother Horace Brooks Marshall always devoted his large

number of votes , or nearly all of them , to last-chance cases , and it was a very kindly feeling that dictated that disposal of his votes ; seeing the children appeared to be neglected , it was always his desire to give them a helping hand , and although it might be they were not always the very best cases , still the kindly feeling was the same , and I think it is a wise practice for those who have not special cases to support to follow his example . Bro . Smith then declared the poll open , the Scrutineers having been already appointed .

The brethren afterwards proceeded to elect 19 out of 27 girls into the School .

URO . LORD KENSINGTON . Bro . Lord Kensington , who was on a visit to Floors Castle , Roxburghshire , died very suddenly on Wednesday afternon while cut shooting , at Crookedshanks , Yetholm , rear Kelso . His lordship , who was in his usual health , drove out with a shooting party in the morning , and' in the afternoon , while crossing a fence , he suddenly dropped down and expired . We understand that death was due to heart disease . The deceased peer was the eldest son of the third barcn . and was born in iH-ii . His lordship was Lord-Lieutenant of Pembroke and

was formerly Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard , a Gro m-in-Waiting to the Qceen , Comptroller of the Household , and a Lord-in-Waiting . Bro . Lord Kensington , who was born in May , 18 35 , was apro ' nted S . G . W . of England in 18 79 , and in 1884 , on the death of Bro . Col . J . Lloyd Phillips , Prov . G . Master South Wales ( W . D . ) . In Royal Arch Masonry he was a Past Grar . d Principal Sojourner of Supreme Grand Chapter , and since 1892 had been Grand Superintendent of South Wales ( W . D . ) . We respectfully tender our sympathy to the family and friends of our late distinguished brother .

BRO . HARRY FRUEN , 2012 . It is , with regret , that we announce the death of Bro . Harry Fruen , of Putney , who was initiated on the 23 rd May , 1884 . in the Chiswick Lodge , No . 2012 . Our brother , who was only 42 years of age , died on the 26 th ult . Tne funeral took place on Wednesday , the 30 'h ult ., at Putney Vale Cemetery , and was attended by very many friends , amongst whom were Bros . Arthur Farrants , 27 Thos . Grant , P . M . 1656 and 2319 ; Harry Lewis ; Jas . Nicholson , 795 and 16 56 J C . Parnacott , 145 ; and R . Reynolds , 1656 . Bro . C . S . Merrett conducted the funeral arrangements .

THE NEW GRAND MASTER .

On Tuesday afternoon , the 29 th ult ., a special meeting of the executive and office-bearers of Grand Lodge was held in Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh , for the nomination of a Grand Master for the ensuing year . Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymp le , Bart ., M . P ., presided , and there were also present the Provincial Grand Mastrrs of Glasgow , Fife , Stirling , and Forfarshire , as well as Bro . Lord Saltoun from Aberdeen .

Bro . Sir CHARLES DALRVMHLE addressed the meeting , and returned his cordial thanks for the many acts of kindness that he had received from the Craft generally in Scotland . He had now been three years Grand Master , and it would be unfair , however kindly the Grand Lodge officials meant , for him again to acceDt nomination .

The officials generally expressed great regret at the decision of Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymple , but , considering the great services he had rendered , thought it would be unfair , and especially after his determination , to press him further . Accordingly , Bro . the Right Hon , Lord Saltoun was nominated and unanimously elected Grand Master Mason of Scotland to succeed Bro . Sir Charles

Dalrymple . Bro . Lord SALTOUN cordially thanked the executive for the honour they had conferred upon him , and hoped he would worthily follow in the footsteps of run predecessors .

" It occupies the site of the ol Argyll Rooms and Trocadero Music Hall , and the inaugural banquet in connection with it was held on Thursday , the 1 st inst . Bro . Joseph Lyons , of the ^ r ™ , ° | . Lyons and Co ., the well-known caterers , to whose enterprise we are indebted to this magnificent addition to our metropolitan dining halls , occupied the chair , an

among the 500 guests present to do honour to the occasion wpre the Marqui = Aylesbury , Sir Edwin Arnold , the Hon . Cavendish Bentinck , Bros . Lord £ » " /» £ ' ' Sir Edward Reed , M . THE NEW GRAND MASTER .

On Tuesday afternoon , the 29 th ult ., a special meeting of the executive and office-bearers of Grand Lodge was held in Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh , for the nomination of a Grand Master for the ensuing year . Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymp le , Bart ., M . P ., presided , and there were also present the Provincial Grand Mastrrs of Glasgow , Fife , Stirling , and Forfarshire , as well as Bro . Lord Saltoun from Aberdeen .

Bro . Sir CHARLES DALRVMHLE addressed the meeting , and returned his cordial thanks for the many acts of kindness that he had received from the Craft generally in Scotland . He had now been three years Grand Master , and it would be unfair , however kindly the Grand Lodge officials meant , for him again to acceDt nomination .

The officials generally expressed great regret at the decision of Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymple , but , considering the great services he had rendered , thought it would be unfair , and especially after his determination , to press him further . Accordingly , Bro . the Right Hon , Lord Saltoun was nominated and unanimously elected Grand Master Mason of Scotland to succeed Bro . Sir Charles

Dalrymple . Bro . Lord SALTOUN cordially thanked the executive for the honour they had conferred upon him , and hoped he would worthily follow in the footsteps of run predecessors .
