Grand Lodge on Wednesday night had to face an agenda paper of portentous length which would have taxed the powers of endurance of the Grand Officers and Executive , to say nothing of the none too patient rank and file , even without the work consequent on a hotly contested election of the Board of General
Purposes and Colonial Board . But arrangements had been judiciously made to simplify the work and minimise the strain by appointing Scrutineers and collecting the balloting papers at the commencement of the proceedings . This served thc double purpose of
affording the longest possible time lor the arduous work of the Scrutineers and relieving the much congested assemblage of the presence of some scores of brethren , whose interest in the proceedings was limited to recording their votes .
Thc real event of the evening was undoubtedly the discussion of the motion standing in the name of Bro . Eve , and it was a somewhat healthy sign of the interest now taken in the welfare of our brethren beyond the seas that the long address of that able brother
should have been listened to without those signs of impatience usually exhibited when matters are discussed in which the great bulk of those present have no personal interest . This close attention was maintained throughout the debate , and , notwithstanding an
occasional sign that feeling 111 some cju . irters was strong , it did not exhibit itself much beyond the usual forensic amenities indulged in when briefs arc held by leading advocates . * * *
Bro . Eve ' s indictment of the action of the Colonial Board was a powerful one , and signs were not wanting early in the debate that the sympathies of Grand
