M . very svell in another place and esteemed him highly , and expecteJ that if hs svere a member of that lodge he should learn , if pissihle-, to esteem him more highly during hisyeare . foffice The VV . M . hadstartedexceed nglysvelkand

speaking as an Installing Mas ' . er svho svould sojn perform the ceremony for the 120 th time , he could say he had never heard it better elone . From the vigour and activity displayed by Bro . Sherwell elsesvhere th * re svas no doubt he svould be svorthy of ihe good start he had made . Bro . Spencer VV . Marris , I . P . M ., gave ' •The Health of the VV . M ., " and said those svho knesv their VV . M . svere asvare he intended to leave no stone unturned to follow

worthily in the steps of thise svho had preceded him in the chair . For the first time for many years past they had no prospect of having any svork at the next meeting , and he ( the I . P . M . ) took that opportunity of mentioning that fact in case any member knew of an eligible candidate to bring forsvard . If an opportunity svas aff jrded him , the VV . M . svould shosv svhat he could do , aid prove himself an ornament and credit to the Iodge . As the I . P . M ., it svould be

his duty and pleasure to assist the VV . M . in every svay , and he united svitli all present in svishing him a happy and most su .-ce . ssful year of ofiice . L ' rj . J . VV . Sherwell , VV . M ., said he imagined it was always an embarrassing thing far a VV . M . to reply to the toast of his own health . It svis a difficulty svith him , and for one re-asm . On a recent occasion they svere so gojd as to propose his health , and his dilliculty nosv svas nut to

express his thanks , bet to find different svords in which to cl the his feelings . His feelings svere unchanged , and svere all gratitude to them for their past friendship and for the kineily onsidcralion shown him that night and svhich he knesv they would show him on future occasions . He svould make his shortcomings as few as possible , and in saying he thanked them , assured them that he felt it . 'The VV . M . then proceeded to propose " The Installing Master , " and remarked that the last year had been an

aidu-aus one for ihe Master , svho had acquitted himself not to their satisfaction but to their admiration . Looking at svhat Bro . Spencer Morris had done that day he almost felt tempted to say in the presence of General Lisvrie that the I . P . M . hid had a field day , and had carried all the honours of svar . Bro . lloblyn , P . M ., had very aptly said that the I . P . M . svas letter perfect . It svas also true that Bro . Monis ss-as not only letter perfect , but perfect in the true spirit of Masonry . He happened to knosv that the I . P . M .

Craft Masonry.

had throsvn himself into Masonry svith a svill , and it svas his linn conviction that there svere many honours in Masonry In store for him , and ani ing the I . P . M . 's many friends there svere none who svould be more glad to hear of them than his old friends and brethren of St . Andresv ' s Lodge . Bro . Spencer Morris , I . P . M ., in response , svished be bail the command of language to enable him ti thank the W . M .

and brethren as he should like , not only for their kind reception that night , but also for the kindly support and encouragement be had received from every member during the past year . It svas a proud day for him svhen they elected him to the cha *' r of that distinguished lodg ? , and although it svas impossible for any one svho tookapiideand pleasure in his svork not to feel some pang of regret at

leaving it to become svhat an irreverent brother described as a distinct volcano , yet he felt prouder at having received such unmistakable proofs of their esteem and regard . He took them as proofs that they recognised that durng his year of ofiice he had endeavoured to do his best . Although there svas little chance of forgetting his year of office , still the handsome jesvel presented to him svould always remain

a pleasing memento of one of th : happiest events of his life . In giving "The Visitors , " the VV . M . referred to the distinguished general on his riglr . svho visited them that night for the second time . He knesv General Lasvne as a good Masan and a good friend , and begged to assure him that his presence svas most pleasing to the brethren . There

had been another distinguished Mason present svho had been obliged to leave , Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Dimsdale , P . G . Stwd ., svho svas a candidate for the office of Grand Treasurer of England . It svas not in mortals to command success , but Bro . Dimsdale svould do more—deserve itand svhatever might be the result of the election he felt bound ti say the record for Bro . Dimsdale svould be a

considerable one , and he svas glad to hear that St . Andresvs Lodge svould vote solid for him . He ( the W . M . ) must express his personal gratification at finding himself surrounded by many personal friends . They appreciated the presence of visitors , and expressed the hope that they svould be encouraged to came again .

Bro General Lasvrie ,, P . G . M ., Nova Scatia , acknosvledged the toast , after svhich the " Past Masters' , " " Treasurer and Secretary ' s , " and other toasts svere given . Bro . manner . The I . P . M ., in proposing the toast of "The VV . M ., " said that for the third time he had to congratulate Bro . N . P . Lardner upon his goad svorking . The tsvo ceremonies that had been performed that evening by the W . M . svere of an arduous character , but they had been most efficiently canied out . His ( the speaker ' s ) position thus far as

I . P . M . had been a sinecure , as the W . M . reejuircd no prompting . The W . AL having replied , gave "The Initiate . " In the course of his remarks , he said that Bro . Mason had been sve'l and svorthily recommended to 1745 , and hc sincerely trusted that he svould . never regret having enrolled himself as one of its members . " Bro . Mason , in acknosvledging the toast , said that

perhaps it svould be considered presumptuous on his part to allude to the matter , but he was constra ned to say that thc Master ' s svork bad been excellently performed , and the ceremony had impressed him m ist highly . speaking as an Installing Mas ' . er svho svould sojn perform the ceremony for the 120 th time , he could say he had never heard it better elone .

They appreciated the presence of visitors , and expressed the hope that they svould be encouraged to came again .

manner . The I .
