The New Governor Of Bombay And The Craft.
THE NEW GOVERNOR OF BOMBAY AND THE CRAFT .
There is a very general feeling amongst the brethren of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devon that their esteemed Provincial Grand Master should continue to rule over the province by . his Deputy , during his absence as Governor of Bombay , rather than resign . The Hon . Sir Stafford H . Northcote , Bart ., C . B ., was appointed by H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Master , as Prov . G . M ., by patent dated May , 18 9 6 , and was duly installed by his respected predecessor in office accordingly on August 12 th , at Exeter . Since then , the prosperity of the province
has been annually on the increase , and the large number of six lodges has been added to the roll , making the total now to be 59 . The Grand Mark Master also appointed Sir Stafford Northcote Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Lodges in the province in 1890 , and he became Grand Superintendent over the R . A . chapters in 18 97 , there being now 20 of the former and 29 of the latter actively working in the county . It is confidently anticipated that in response to the unanimous and most hearty wishes of the province the Prov . G . M . will decide to continue
these offices , especially as there is no lack of willing and competent Craftsmen to act for the interosts of the fraternity during the period of Governorship , and besides which at least five years must be served before past rank can be acquired as a Ruler of the province . ^ Many lodges have already passed resolutions , supported by all the members in attendance , asking Sir Stafford Northcote to continue as their beloved and trusted Provincial Grand Master , especially as there
are plenty of precedents in favour of such a desirable course . The Duke of Connaught , K . G ., Past G . M ., still continues as District Grand Master of Bombay though the active Provincial Grand Master of Sussex ; and as the present Governor of Bombay , Lord Sandhurst , G . C . I . E ., is the Pro Dist . G . M . of that province , it is more than likely that Sir Stafford Northcote will be appointed to that office in due course . There are 27 lodges in Bombay , the district organisation dating from 1764 . —Western Morning Notes , November 16 .

BRO . G . W . PERRY , P . M ., P . Z ., TREAS . It is with extreme regret we have to announce the great loss the Mount Edgcumbe Lodge , No . 1446 , London , has sustained in the loss of their esteemed Treasurer , Bro . G . W . Perry , P . M ., P . Z . Bro . Perry was initiated in the abovenamed lodge in 1883 . Having passed with credit through the minor offices he was placed in the chair of K . S . at the beginning of 18 90 , and proved himself a most ellicient W . M . So great was the respect his conscientious work and
amiability of disposition gained for him , that at the close of his Mastership , the office of Treasurer having become vacant , he was elected to that position with the same unanimity as marked his previous election to the chair , and he had the satisfaction of seeing the affairs of the lodge raised from a low ebb to a position of great prosperity . Bro . Perry ' s last attendance at the lodge was in September , when he was far from well ; he , however , struggled on , but took to his bed at the beginning of last month , and the following week on
being removed to Bolingbroke Hospital , underwent a most serious operation to the effects of which he eventually succumbed , passing away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday , the 29 th ult . The funeral took place on Saturday last , the first portion of the service being taken at St . Luke ' s , Nightingale-lane , the latter at the family grave at Brompton . Both the lodge and chapter sent wreaths to be placed upon the coffin , the former being inscribed : " A tribute of honour and resoect to the memorv of their esteemed Treasurer from the mpmham nt n . *
Mount Edgcumbe Lodge . " Amongst the brethren who attended to pay the last tribute of respect to departed merit were Bros . Jesse Masters , W . M . ; W . G Hale , S . W . ; G . E . Hamilton , Sec . ; J . Brown , I . P . M . j Phis , Cull , Mullins ] Whitehead , and many lay members of 144 6 , besides several members of the Committee of the Benevolent Institution , of which the deceased had been Secretary for nearly 40 years ; these included Bros . R . Bottle , 1624 ; R . Catling , 2157 •F . J . Welch , Chairman of the Committee of the Institution ; and others .
THE QUEEN has , through Sir Fleetwood Edwards , sent a donation of / , 10 to the funds of the Windsor and Eton Branch of the Navy League .

amiability of disposition gained for him , that at the close of his Mastership , the office of Treasurer having become vacant , he was elected to that position with the same unanimity as marked his previous election to the chair , and he had the satisfaction of seeing the affairs of the lodge raised from a low ebb to a position of great prosperity . Bro . *
