The working of the VV . M . was carried out in an excellent manner , and was much appreciated by the members and the numerous visitors . Bro . W . Beckett , 1602 , was unanimously t lected as a joining member . Bro . E . W . Allen , P . M ., then occupied the chair , and Bro . Thomas J . Boulting , the W . Sheperd , Tyler . The installation ceremony was most impressively performed by Bro . Ii . VV . Allen , P . M ., who gave the usual addresses with marked effect , for which he received the heaity congratulations of the brethren . The W . M . then presented a Past Master ' s jewel to Bro . G . E . VV . Tucker , I . P . M ., as a mark of respect and esteem in which he was held by the members , observing that the great duties he had performed warranted his receiving the jewel , which was his maiden jewel and the jewel of his muther lodge , and he thought that whatever jewel he might hereafter receive in Masonry ,

he would not honour it more than the one it was then his great pleasure to pin on his breast . The inscription on the jewel was— " Presented to Bro . G . E . VV . Tucker by the members of the St . John's Lodge , No . 795 , in appreciation of his valuable services as VV . M . " In acknowledging the jewel , Bro . Tucker expressed his hearty thanks , but he did not think he deserved it , and what he had done during his year of office was to the best of his ability , and if he had given satisfaction he was gratified . The jewel would ever remind him of the very happy time he had spent in the lodge .

Bio . T . Manning , 55 , was proposed as a joining member , and other business followed , after which the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a superb barquft , which idlectcd the highest credit on the establishment and was well served , lor which Bro . G . II . Hards was responsible . The customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In responding for "Ihe Grand Ollicers , Present and Past , " Bro . G . E .

Fairchild , A . G . D . C , stated that it was his pleasure to have been associated with the W . M . lor over 30 years . Some of the Grand Officers were appointed for what they had done in the Craft , and there could be no more earnest or ardent workers in Freemasonry than Bres . Lord Lathom and Lord Mount Edgcumbe . In 1 S 9 S the M . VV . G . M . the Prince of Wales would preside at the centenary of the Boys' Institution , which would be the means of getting together a very large sum of money for that deserving Charity .

Bro . VV . I'enton , P . P . S . G . W . Berks , responded in happy terms to the toast of ' The Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Ihe I . P . M ., Bro . G . E . VV . Tucker , submitted the toast of "The Worshipful Master . " He stated that in Bro . Boulting they had a VV . M . who had worked hard in Masonry , and he had passed the chair in two other lodges . He was well known to thsm rh , and he felt that he was expressing the sentiments of all the members in wishing him t very happy and prosperous year of office .

Bto . Hoahing , VV . M ., in response , said that at the end of his year of office he hoped no-hing would be found wanting on his part to make the lodge as successful as in the ; . a t . I le trusted to have plenty of work , as the Masters who had gone in front of him , 1 i if be could du the work to his own satisfaction , he thought the members would also be satisfied . 1 ne VV . M . proposed " The Initiate . " It was , he thought , the toast of the evening . II- appeared to be one of the right sort , and he hoped he would turn out a good member of the Craft .

Ihe initiate , Bro . J . \ V . Reeves , responded . He said that he was a bad speechnr . ker , and did nut know how to thank them adequately for having received him as one ol ihem . It had long been his ambition to be a Freemason , and he hoped they would be satisfied with him , as it was his wish to act as a man and a Mason . In proposing " l ' he Installing Master , Bro . E . W . Allen , P . M ., " the W . M . stated

that it had been his good fortune to be installed Master for the second time by Bro . Allen , who had also initiated him . It was a proud thing to be installed twice , and that was enhanced by liro . Allen , who always performed the beautiful ceremony in an excel-1 m manner , being the Installing Master , and , on twhalf of the members , he thanked him for his great efforts .

In replying , bro . E . VV . Allen , P . M ., said that he had the honour ot initiating the VV . M . in another lodge in 1876 , in which he installed him as W . AL in iS 3 g , and he had Hut day installed him in the St . John ' s Lodge . He need hardlysay that it gave him the gieatest pleasure to have acted as Installing Ma > ter , and it was the : 4 th or 15 th time that he had djne so in the lodge , and he hoped to be spared for many years to come to a-. > ain act in that capacity . Ihe VV . M . gave the next toast— "The I . P . M ., Bro . Tucker " —observing that he had Inled bis position thoroughly well , and had been in every respect an excellent ruler , and had done everything to add to the happiness and prosperity of the lodge .

Bro . Tucker , I . P . M ., on rising to respond , received a hearty welcome . lie thanked the W . M . tor his kind but flattering remarks . It was indeed a high position to hold as VV . thanks were also due to the members for the kindness and courtesy he had always received at their hands . The Worshipful Master , in proposing " The Visitors , " remarked that it was a toast that was always received there in a cordial manner . They were honoured by the presence of a goodly number , and thev were all welcome . He coupled with the toast the namss of Bros . G . E . Fairchild , A . G . D . C . ; F . H . B . Riddle , and T . B . Manning .

Bro . Fairchild responded . He did not think he would bs called upon again , but he was not the lesspleased to be in the position to say a few more words . He had visited many lodges and he was glad to record that the working he had witnessed that day was goad ; he had had a Masonic treat , and Bro . Tucker , the I . P . M ., was to be congratulated for his effective working of the rituil , and in conclusion , he said he was glad to have been present at thc installation of the VV . M ., Bro . Boulting , who was one of his very dearest friends , and who had been so ably installed by Bro . Allen .

Bro . F . H . B . Riddle , W . M . 173 , said that it was not his first visit , and he was glad to find that their reputation for excellent working was still to the front . They had had a lot of work for an installation meeting , but it had gone off well . The visitors had been loyally entertained , and he had enjoyed himself immensely . Bro . T . B . Manning stated that when he cams there he felt he was among his own friends , and if it was his good fortune to be elected as a joining member at the next meeting , he would be glad .

Bro . S . Sapsworth said that he had visited the lodge on many occasions , and he was pleased to be there again to meet so many old and dear friends . Bros . G . N . Watts , P . M ., and W . Downing , P . M ., also replied in very suitable terms , bearing testimony to the excellent working of the I . P . M . and the Installing Master . The Worshipful Master gave "The Past Masters , " who were , he stated , the backbone of the lodge and they always attended in strong force to render every assistance . He felt that he could rely upon them for their great support during his reign as Master , and he wished them long life and happiness .

Bro . F . Foxley , P . M ., whose name was associated with the toast , responded . He was proud that he was a Past Master of the lodge , but he missed several of the Past Masters who had gone to the great majority . He and Bro . Allen were the only ones left of the Past Masters of 19 years ago . It had been his privilege to follow Bro . Allen in three chairs and he thought it was a great honour to follow one so eminent in

Freemasonry . In submitting the toast of " The Treasurer and Secretary , " the W . M . stated that they were both splendid officers , and as to Bro . Daaring , he not only did his duty as Secretary , but he was more than a brother as he had a large Masonic heart . It was not possible lo have a better Secretary and they all appreciated his great services . Bro . C . Dearing , P . M ., Sec , in responding , stated that he was not entitled to half the goad the VV . M . had said of him . He had acted as Secretary for ten years and he had done his best , and it woild be a pleasure to continue his efforts to help make the W . M . ' s term of office one of the best in the annals of the lodge .

Bro . W . Fenton , P . M ., Treas , said that the lodge was in a very flourishing condition and he thought their prosperity would continue under the genial presidency of the W . M . He was honoured by having been again appointed Treasurer . The Tyler ' s toast ended a most happy and successful gathering .

The 34 th installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Corn Exchange-street , Cambridge , on Tuesday , the 29 th ult ., when upwards of So brethren were present .
