The Earl of EUSTON said : Right Worshipful Brethren , Grand Officers , and brethren , —Before proceeding to the business which is before Grand Lodge I have . to bring to your notice a motion which I am quite certain that you as Mark Masons and loyal men will receive with acclamation and that you will , accord a unanimous vote in favour of it . The last time I had to move an address to the Grand Master in this Grand Lodge was under very painful

circumstances , it being a resolution of condolence with his Royal Highness the , Prince of Wales on the loss by death of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale . But on this occasion we , as Mark Masons , wish to show our loyalty , devotion , and sympathy lo our Most Worshipful Grand Master in his joys as well as in his sorrows , not only as the head of our Order , but as the heir to the throne of England and as belonging to a family whom we all

look 10 with respect and adore . Viscount DUNGARVAN , Deputy Grand Master , said : Most Wotship ful Pro Grand Master , Grand Officers , and brethren , —It is with very great feelings of pleasure , as well as of duty , that I rise to-day to second this motion . You have heard what the Most AVorshipful Pro Grand Master has said , and you all know that only last year it was a very different sort of

expression wc conveyed to our Grand Master . By allowing us last year to share his sorrow , I think we may trust he will on this occasion allow us to share his joy . I can only say that I am perfectly certain this motion will be carried unanimously , because -I know the Duke and Duchess of York have no more sincere well-wishers than the Mark Masons of England . ( Cheers . ) The motion was put and carried unanimously .

The GRAND SECRETARY read the minutes of the meeting of June ( 5 th , which were put and confirmed . Bros . Peter de L . Long and Capt . W . A . Weston were then invested , the former as S . G . D . and the latter as G . I . G ., they not having been present for investiture at the Quarterly Communication of Tune 6 th .

On the motion of Bro . R . LOVELAND LOVELAND , President , seconded by GORDON MILLER , P . G . Treas ., the following report of the General Board was taken as read , and ordered to be received and entered on the minutes : During the three months ending 30 th June , there have been issued : Mark certificates , 552 ; total number registered , 31 , 552 . Four warrants for new lodges ,

A petition has been presented by the members of the Lodge St . George of Colombo , No . 4 64 , praying that the lodge may he attached to the District of Bombay , and the R . W . District Grand Master having assented to this course , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . Grand Master , has been pleased to direct that the Lodge St . George of Colombo , No . 464 , shall be temporarily attached to the District Grand Lodge of Bombay , and , for the time being , form an integral portion of that district .

Printed documents signed by W . Bro . E . W . Parker , Past Deputy District G . Master Bengal , and many other brethren of lodges in the Punjab , purporting to be appeals against certain observations and remarks of the R . W . District Grand Master of Bengal , and of- R . W . Bro . the Hon . Justice Prinsep , Past District G . Master , at District Grand Lodge , in March , 18 93 , have been presented to the Board . As no formal Masonic censure has been passed on these brethren the

Board cannot view these documents in the light of appeals , and , white they deprecate the remarks complained of as being uncalled for , Bro . Parker and the others being strictly within their legal Masonic rights , they think that with this expression of their opinion the matter had better be allowed to drop . FUND OF BENEVOLENCE . The 25 th annual festival was held at Freemasons' Tavern on the 26 th July , under the presidency of the R . W . Bro . Col . Gerard Noel Money , C . B ., Provincial Grand Master for Surrey , and the sum of , £ 2166 19 s . 6 d . was announced . The Board have to report— : . _ ' In consequence of the election of Bro . T . Centenary Of No. 279, Leicester.

CENTENARY OF No . 279 , LEICESTER .

Bro . W . Maurice Williams , P . M . 279 , P . Prov . G . Reg ., Sec , has written an able and deeply interesting history of the St . John ' s Lodge , No . 279 , Leicester , whose centenary festival was celebrated on November nth , 1890 , under distinguished patronage , and most extraordinary circumstances . Over 130 pages are occupied by the historian , either in reference to the celebration or the historical sketch of the lodge , and , in order to . do

justice to both , it is necessary to con ider the volume , in more or less detail . The initiatory steb towards the festival was taken during the Mastership of Bro . Williams in 1889 , but the real proceedings of the centenary year began with the installation of my esteemed friend and brother , William Kelly , F . S . A ., P . Prov . G . M ., as the W . M ., on New Year ' s Day , 1890 , the fifth time he has so honoured the lodge . Bro . Kelly ' s services have been so valuable to his mother lodge , No . 279 , from the day of his initiation , on

November 71 I 1 , 183 S , to thc present time , as well as to his province and the Craft generally , and so heartily appreciated by his brethren , that it would be wholly superfluous forme to attempt any account of them herein , save to state that from his acting as J . D . two months after his initiation , and delivering a lecture on thc first tracing board , down to his fifth Mastership m 1890 , he has worked incessantly for the Fraternity iu all manner of waysand degrees , and in 1893 is one of the most prominent , beloved and respected brethren on the register of thc Grand Lodge of x England .

The centenary jewel warrant was granted on August 30 th , 1890 . A thanksgiving service was held at St . George ' s Church on Sunday , August 31 st , followed by a collection in aid of the Leicester Children's Hospital ) the sermon being preached by Bro . thc Rev . Charles J . Martyn , M . A .. P . G . Chap ., kc , who discharged that duty with his customary ability and io

enthusiasm . Then came thc festival on November nth , when about " visitors were entertained by the members of the lodge , Bro . G . W . Spot "' as Secretary , being present on behalf of our Quatuor Coronati Lodge , No-2076 , of which the R . W . Bro . W . Kelly is a lull member . Bro . the Kev . C . J . Martyn delivered an oration . Bro . the Hon . Justice Prinsep , Past District G . Master , at District Grand Lodge , in March , 18 93 , have been presented to the Board . As no formal Masonic censure has been passed on these brethren the

Board cannot view these documents in the light of appeals , and , white they deprecate the remarks complained of as being uncalled for , Bro . Parker and the others being strictly within their legal Masonic rights , they think that with this expression of their opinion the matter had better be allowed to drop . FUND OF BENEVOLENCE . The 25 th annual festival was held at Freemasons' Tavern on the 26 th July , under the presidency of the R . W . Bro . Col . Gerard Noel Money , C . B ., Provincial Grand Master for Surrey , and the sum of , £ 2166 19 s . 6 d . was announced . The Board have to report— : . _ ' In consequence of the election of Bro . T . Morant Compton as . aii sirtnuitant of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , he has ceased to be an annuitant on this Fund . ( Art . 226 , Sub-clause XL ) . CENTENARY OF No . 279 , LEICESTER .

Bro . W . Maurice Williams , P . M . 279 , P . Prov . G . Reg ., Sec , has written an able and deeply interesting history of the St . John ' s Lodge , No . 279 , Leicester , whose centenary festival was celebrated on November nth , 1890 , under distinguished patronage , and most extraordinary circumstances . Over 130 pages are occupied by the historian , either in reference to the celebration or the historical sketch of the lodge , and , in order to . do

justice to both , it is necessary to con ider the volume , in more or less detail . The initiatory steb towards the festival was taken during the Mastership of Bro . Williams in 1889 , but the real proceedings of the centenary year began with the installation of my esteemed friend and brother , William Kelly , F . S . A ., P . Prov . G . M ., as the W . M ., on New Year ' s Day , 1890 , the fifth time he has so honoured the lodge . Bro . Kelly ' s services have been so valuable to his mother lodge , No . 279 , from the day of his initiation , on

November 71 I 1 , 183 S , to thc present time , as well as to his province and the Craft generally , and so heartily appreciated by his brethren , that it would be wholly superfluous forme to attempt any account of them herein , save to state that from his acting as J . D . two months after his initiation , and delivering a lecture on thc first tracing board , down to his fifth Mastership m 1890 , he has worked incessantly for the Fraternity iu all manner of waysand degrees , and in 1893 is one of the most prominent , beloved and respected brethren on the register of thc Grand Lodge of x England .

The centenary jewel warrant was granted on August 30 th , 1890 . A thanksgiving service was held at St . George ' s Church on Sunday , August 31 st , followed by a collection in aid of the Leicester Children's Hospital ) the sermon being preached by Bro . thc Rev . Charles J . Martyn , M . A .. P . G . Chap ., kc , who discharged that duty with his customary ability and io

enthusiasm . Then came thc festival on November nth , when about " visitors were entertained by the members of the lodge , Bro . G . W . Spot "' as Secretary , being present on behalf of our Quatuor Coronati Lodge , No-2076 , of which the R . W . Bro . W . Kelly is a lull member . Bro . the Kev . C . J . Martyn delivered an oration .
