the Prov . Grand Master , to eulogise upon his personal qualifications , and especially so when they were so well known in the province , and in fact in all the provinces . He was one who always received a cordial and deserving reception wherever he went . They one and all expressed a hope that they would see him in the distinguished office of Deputy Grand Master . It would be gratifying to the Grand Lodge and equally satisfactory to the province if his Royal Highness places the Prov . Grand Master into that office .

Bro . W . W . B . BEACH , M . P ., P . G . M ., who had a most enthusiastic reception , thanked the brethren heartily for their kindness . It vvas gratifying , he said , to see such a good gathering . He had endeavoured to hold the Provincial Grand Lodge at different places to meet the wishes of the brethren , and he vvas pleased to acquiesce to the requisition from Bournemouth , and would certainly hold the next annual meeting at that place . The reception that day by the Ryde brethren was

grand , and nothing was lack on their part to make the day a success . He assured the brethren it vvas a source of great pleasure to preside over such a province as long as he vvas so heartily supported , and it was only by the kindness of thebrethren that he found it so easy to fulfil the duties . He looked to them for support , and hoped those entering the Craft would copy the example of their predecessors . He exhorted

them all not to relax their efforts to promote the Order and Charity . It vvas , however , impossible for him to discharge his duties without the able assistance of his coadjutor , Bro . Le Feuvre , as his Deputy . He was proud of him , and they all knew what an indefatigable Mason he vvas , and took great interestin the Provincial and great Masonic Charities .

Bro . J . E . LE FEUVRE , D . P . G . M ., who vvas received with loud applause , said it was most gratifying to him to hear such expression from the Prov . G . M . of his humble services . His abilities were most gladly rendered to the province and Freemasonry in general . Looking back 15 years ago , when they last met at Ryde , they had a good meeting , and he rejoiced to see such an enthusiastic gathering that day . There vvas good cause to congratulate each other . There vvere some of

the faces he saw 15 years ago who were present that day . Tbey vvere pleased to see Bro . Wyatt , as he was one of those vvho connected the present vvith the past , and there was also the esteemed Bro . Newman . Those two were likely to do all they could to benefit Freemasonry , and he expressed a hope that those and other brethren mi ght be spared for many years associating themselves vvith the rising

generation and trying to induce them to emulate their example . He congratulated the province upon its continued success under the happy and generous rule of the Prov . Grand Master , whose 21 years will soon have finished , and with a hope that he may long reign as he now does , and that it be their happiness to be reigned over by him .

Bro . Rev . G . WYATT , P . M . 151 , P . P . S . G . W ., returned thanks for the remarks made relative to himself .

Bro . GOBLE , Prov . G . Sec , proposed "The Provincial Grand Ofiicers , Present and Past , " and said duties of a most onerous nature were thrown upon them . It was the duty of a W . M ., after obtaining that proud position , to persevere and obtain office in the Provincial Grand Lodge , and always to put in an appearance and support the Prov . G . Master and the officers . He was sorry to say there was a lack of duties by Past Prov . Grand Officers . Some thought that having received

the collak- their duties had ended . Not so ; they should support the honour conferred upon them . It certainly vvas most difficult to give collars to all . There were only 17 offices to be distributed to 40 lodges . It was a great pleasure to be able to see around them such a highly and esteemedbrother who had been connected with Freemasonry so many years , and always did his duty , and vvas the right hand of Freemasonry in the Isle of Wight—Bro . Newman . Regarding the present

officers : The S . W ., appointed that day , had found out that the Roman villa at Brading was formerly a Masonic lodge . Where was Bros . Newman and Rev . J . N . Palmer to let a visitor come and find out what they should have discovered ? Bro . Crease had written a good paper upon it which vvas well received by the Quatuor Coronati . The province should feel proud of him . Bros . NEWMAN , FAWKXER , and CREASE returned thanks .

Provincial Grand Lodge Of Hertfordshire.

Twenty-one pounds vvas voted to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , on the proposition of Bro . T . S . CARTER , seconded by Bro . C . E . KEYSER , to be placed on the list of Bro . F . Willcox , P . M . 1479 , P-P-G . Chap . ; £ 10 towards the expenses incurred by the entertaining lodge ; £ 10 to the Berkhampstead Parish Nurse Fund ; £ 13 to defray cost of a panel in the Centenary Hall of the Girls ' School ; and £ 20 vvas directed to be invested in Consols as an addition to the existing Prov . G . Lodge Fund . It was also resolved that the publication of the Provincial Calendar should be continued .

The lamented death of Bro . the Earl of Carnarvon was referred to in terms of sincere regret and sympathy , and a resolution of condolence with the widowed countess and the children of the late earl was unanimously passed . After Prov . G . Lodge vvas closed , the brethren adjourned to the King's Arms Hotel , where in the spacious hall of the Berkhampstead Lodge , an excellent

banquet vvas served . The Prov . G . Master presided and , in responding later in the evening for the toast of his health , spoke in warm terms of congratulation on the great progress the province had made , as evidenced b y the consecration of three new lodges during the past year , and the approaching consecration of the James Terry Lodge .

The Provincial Grand Lodge of the Province of the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire was held in the Assembly Rooms , Malton , on the invitation of the Camalodunum Lodge , No . 660 , on Wednesday , the 9 th ult . The Ri ght Honourable the Earl of Zetland , Provincial Grand Master , presiding , supported by Bro . Lieut .-Colonel the Honourable W . T . Orde-Powlett , J . P ., D . L ., P . G . W . England , Deputy P . G . M ., and a large number of Present and Past Provincial Grand Officers , and representatives of lodges .

The Provincial Grand Lodge having been opened , the minutes of the Provincial Grand Lodge held at Hull , vvere taken as read and confirmed . The Prov . Grand Treasurer ' s annual balance sheet having been audited and found correct , vvas unanimously adopted . The PROV . GRAND SECRETARY read the annual report of the Board of Benevolence .

The report vvas unanimously confirmed . The annual report of the Charities' Association , having been printed and circulated , vvas then , on the proposition of the PROV . GRAND SECRETARY , seconded by Bro . WOODALL , P . G . T ., taken as read , and unanimousl y adopted . The PROV . GRAND TREASURER read the preliminary report of the second festival of the Educational Fund , held at Hull on 28 th May last , which , on the proposition of Bro . WOODALL , P . G . Treas . England , seconded by Bro . SYKES RYMER , P . P . G . R ., was unanimously adopted .

The various lodges in the province , all of which were represented , then communicated . The returns showed a total of 2118 subscribing members . The Prov . Smith , expressive of the great regret with which his resignation would be received b y Provincial Grand Lodge . The PROV . GRAND MASTER proposed a cordial vote of thanks to Bro . Smith for his past valuable services , and for the kindness , courtesy , and zeal with which those duties had been performed ; seconded by the D . P . G . M ., and carried unanimously .

The PROV . GRAND SECRETARY then proposed the election of Bro . Wm . H . Cowper , P . P . G . R ., as Provincial Charity Representative , which vvas seconded by Bro . W . J . Watson , P . P . G .
