We understand his Royal Highness the Most Worshipful Grand Master , has appointed Bro . Lord George Hamilton , P . G . W ., to the oflice of Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex , in succession to our late respected Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart . Lord George Hamilton , who is P . M . of the Chiswick Lodge , No .

2012 , served the oflice of Senior Grand Warden in the year 1889 . The appointment is one which , we venture to believe , will receive the hearty approval of the brethren of the Province , and of the Craft in general . Lord George Hamilton is , we believe , a native of the county , and comes of a family who , both in England and Ireland , have filled the highest Masonic positions .

* * * We take this opportunity of reminding our Mark readers that the Festival of the Mark Benevolent Fund will be held at the Freemasons' Tavern on Wednesday , the 20 th instant , under the presidency of Bro . Sir Reginald Hanson , Bart ., M . P . We shall have occasion to refer to the subject at some length in our next

week ' s issue , but in the meantime we may be permitted to express our regret that the number of brethren who up to the present time have volunteered their services as Stewards , is considerably . below what it was last year . We trust the Board will be substantially increased between now and the day appointed for the celebration .

We think the Quarterly Court of the Girls' School has done wisely in arranging that the Sustentation of Building Fund shall be merged in the General Fund , provided , of course , that Grand Lodge consents to the arrangement .. The separate maintenance of a Fund , which amounts to only i ' 500 , with its own set of

Trustees , [ cause a great deal of trouble , while , if any serious steps had to be taken to keep the building in repair , the amount thus set apart was sure to prove absolutely insufficient , and a heavy call had to be made upon the general Fund . Now , if Grand Lodge is willing , there will be only one Fund to meet expenditure of every kind . * * *

The Quarterly Court of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys will be held this day ( Friday ) at Freemasons' Hall , at the hour of 4 p . m . The number of vacancies will be declared and the number of

candidates settled , while Bro . Everett , P . G . Treas ., will propose that under the special circumstances of the case , the two highest unsuccessful candidates in April last shall be appointed to fill two vacancies which have lately occurred .

A Special Grand Conclave of the Orders of the Red Cross of Constantine and of St . John the Evangelist will be held at Mark Masons' Hall to-day ( Friday ) , at 5 p . m ., to elect and enthrone a successor to the late lamented Illustrious Grand Sovereign , Sir Francis Burdett . It is an open secret that the present Grand

Viceroy , Lord Euston , will be elected as his successor , and that thc Baron de Ferrieres , I . P . G . Viceroy , will be proposed for re-election as Grand Viceroy , he being willing so to act til ! the end of the year , by which time Lord Dungarvan will have qualified to fill the post . A

banquet will follow , at which the Illustrious Grand Sovereign and the Grand Viceroy will occupy the chair and vice-chair , and now that this distinguished Order is about to make a fresh start , it is hoped that there will be a large attendance . . * *
