Z ., said he rose to perform a very p leasant duty , although he could have wished it had fallen
to the lot of some other companion vvho could more adequately express the feelings of the companions towards Comp . E . J . B . Mercer , P . Z ., for the interest he had at all times evinced for the good ot Royal Arch Masonry in general , and of this very ancient chapter in particular . It vvas at all times felt by the members that , let what vvould happen , Comp . Mercer would always be found present at
its meetings , and ready and willing to take the place and perform the duties of any companion who might be incapacitated . During his ( the speaker's ) year of office as First Principal of the chapter , he had availed himself of Comp . Mercer ' s kind offices upon more than one occasion , and this had been the case also vvith others . It had been strongly felt that Comp . Mercer ' s services deserved some
more substantial recognition than merely verbal thanks . He had , therefore , much pleasure in asking his acceptance of a Past First * Principal ' s jewel , and in fastening it upon his breast , he expressed a fervent hope that Comp . Mercer might be spared for many years to wear it in that chapter . Comp . Mercer said he had been taken entirely by surprise by the presentation , and felt unable to express his thanks to the companions for their present , and to Comp .
Cater for the very kind terms in vvhich he had spoken of the services he had been able to render , and he could assure the companions that the very handsome jewel which he had received would at all times be treasured by him , and vvould act as an incentive to be ready at all times to p lace his best services at the disposal of the chapter . Cooke also presented the chapter with an elaborate altar veil of satin , with choice fringe and tassels , and beautifully worked in the centre . Both companions were highly complimented for their munificence to the chapter .
WARRINGTON . —Gilbert Greenall Chapter ( No . 1250 ) . —The eighth anniversary of this chapter vvas held in the Masonic Rooms , Sankey-street , on Tuesday , the 26 th ult ., when all the companions , vvith one or two exceptions , met on the occasion . There were also a number of visitors present , including several Prov . G . Officers , amongst whom vve noticed Comp . Goodacre , P . G . S . E .,
and also several members of 14 S . The chapter having been opened , and the minutes of the last convocation read and confirmed , Comps . P . J . Edelsten , P . Z . 14 S and 1250 , P . P . G . Std . Br ., then proceeded to install Comps . W . Bolton , M . E . Z . ; R . Heaton , H . ; and A . G . Webster , J ., which was done in a most efficient and impressive manner . The M . E . Hamling , in responding , thanked the brethren for this unexpected vote , but considered what he had done for the lodge vvas but doing his duty , as he considered no man had the right to take office if he did not
intend to do thc work appertaining to that office . There being no other business the lodge was duly closed , the brethren , about 30 , adjourning to the banqueting room , where , after disposing of a good supper , supplied by Bro .
