MASONIC "AT HOME " AT THE CLUB HOUSE , ALDERSHOT .

The Worshipful Master , officers , and brethren of the Army and Navy Lodge , No . 1971—which vvas consecrated in 1 SS 2 , for the convenience of officers quartered in the Aldershot Division—gave an "At Home" at the Officers ' Club House , on Thursday night , the 21 st ult . This is quite

a new departure in connection vvith Freemasonry in Aidershot , and proved to be a most enjoyable event . The brethren carried it out on a large scale , issuing upwards of 500 invitations to the Masters and Past Masters of adjoining lodges and distinguished brethren of the Order , in addition to thc Staff of the Aldershot Division , and other officers , and the leading families of the neighbourhood ,

most of whom were present . The Provincial Grand Master of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight having kindly granted a dispensation , the brethren of the Order appeared in Craft clothing , and this , vvith the rich dresses of the ladies , made the scene a very impressive one , not soon to be forgotten . Bro . W . E . Foster , of Lindum House , is the present W . M . of this distinguished lodge , and his officers are as

follows : Bros . Surgeon Harwood , A . M . S ., S . W . ; Lieut . Paget , R . H . A ., J . VV . ; Major Lindsell , R . E ., Treasurer ; the "" Rev . A . Gedge , Chaplain ; Capt , Gneme , R . A ., S . D . ; Major Green , R " . E ., J . D . ; Capt . Sn * G . Thomas , R . H . A ., D . of C . ; Col . Onslow , 20 th Hussars , I . G . ; and Col . Ycatman-Biggs , I . P . M ., Sec . _ The arrangements were entrusted to a Committee consisting of the W . M . and

Bros . Surgeon Harwood , Lieut . Paget , Capt . SirG . Thomas , Col . Onslow , Col . Yeatman-Biggs , and Major Courtenay , who ably officiated as Secretary . The special furnishing * of the building vvas carried out b y Messrs . T . White and Co ., and the refreshments were supplied by Mr . Lowe . In each of these important matters entire satisfaction vvas given . The programme commenced vvith selections by the

splendid band of the Royal Artillery , under the direction of Mr . H . Sims . A prominent feature of the evening- vvas the appearance of Mr . Corney Grain , vvho is now widely knovvn in his new sketch of country life . We certainly think that in this piece Mr . Convey Grain surpasses himself , thc songs

being exceedingly amusing and well rendered . The company highly appreciated his sallies of wit , as a very large number of those present have considerable acquaintance vvith sport and country houses , though , happily , not of the character described so humorously b y him . His French sketch was also much enjoyed , the audience laughing * most

heartily . Mrs . Michael , whose vocal abilities are so well known by the assistance she renders in any charitable or other good vvork in the neighbourhood , gave a beautiful rendering of the song , " When Delia sings , " being accompanied by Dr . Treherne . Mrs . G . M . Onslow , a well knovvn and popular favourite at the Club House , contributed a recitation , "A Faithful Soul , " in vvhich her remarkable

elocutionary powers were again evinced . She met vvith a hearty reception . Major Auld sang "To Anthea , " vvith much expression , At about half-past eleven Bro . Foster and Lady Wood led the way to supper , General Smith taking in Mrs . Foster . Supper vvas followed by dancing ,

in vvhich many of the younger guests took part , and thoroughly enjoyed themselves . The greatest praise is clue to Bro . Major Courtenay for the energetic manner in vvhich hc worked as Secretary of the Committee—also to Bro . Col . Onslow for the excellent manner in which the programme vvas arranged and carried out
