VV ., was unanimously elected . The lodge has been very prosperous during the past year , as the following votes of

money from its funds will show : fifty guineas to the Koyal Masonic Institution for Boys ; twenty guineas to the Aged Freemasons and Widows of lreemasons' Male Fund ; and thirty guineas to a most deserving local Charity , viz ., the Manchester Warehousemen and ' Clerks' Orphan Schools . This lodge now possesses 4 S 1 votes for the various Masonic Charities , without taking into account those acquired at this meeting .

LANCASTER . —Lodge of Fortitude ( No . 2 S 1 ) . •—The installation meeting of this lodge was held on the 29 th ult ., in the Masonic Hall , Church-street . There was a good attendance of brethren and visitors , the latter including Bros . Major Turner , VV . M . ; A . W . Kershaw , S . VV . 1051 ; J . E . Oglethorpe , P . G . R . ; C . J . Stork , W . M . ; and D . Shaw , J . W . 1353 ; J . F . Willan , J . VV . 15 G 1 ; and

Wakenshaw . The chair was occupied by Bro . R . Stanton , and the W . M . elect , Bro . A . McRaith , having been duly presented , he was installed into office by the W . M ., and by whom the installation ceremony was performed . The newlyinstalled Master subsequently appointed his officers for the ensuing year as follows : Bros . R . Stanton , I . P . M . ; R . Nicholson , S . VV . ; J . Heald , J . W . ; James Hatch , P . M ..

After the transaction of other business , including a vote of thanks to the Installing Officer for the manner in which the ceremony had been performed , the lodge was closed . An adjournment was made to the King's Arms Hotel ,

where the banquet was held , and which was served in that admirable maimer for which Mr . Ducksbury is so deservedly noted . The newly-installed Master presided , having on his right the Mayor of Lancaster , Bro . James Hatch , Bros . Simpson , T . Atkinson , Kelland , King , and on the left Bros . Stanton , Oglethorpe , Storke , John Hatch , Kershaw , and others . The vice-chair was occupied by Bro .

Nicholson . On the conclusion of the dinner , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given from the chair , and received with all the honours . "The Health of the VV . M . " was proposed in eulogistic terms by Bro . Simpson , and received with the greatest enthusiasm .

"The Health of his Worship the Mayor" was also given , and received most heartily . Bro . Pilkington , in responding to the toast of "The Secretary , " gave a few particulars respecting the early history of the lodge , and in the course of which he mentioned that Bro . Hatch was the fourteenth member of the

Lodge of Fortitude , who had occupied the chair of chief magistrate of the borough . The other toasts included that of " The Installing Officer , " " Wardens , " " Assistant Officers , " " Visitors , " & c , concluding with the Tyler ' s toast , and a very pleasant evening was spent . Letters regretting inability to be present were received from Bros . Capt . Garnett , P . P . G . S . VV . ; and VV . E . M . Tomlinson , M . P ., VV . M . 15 G 1 .

CARLISLE . —Union Lodge ( No . 310 ) . —The installation of VV . M . of the above lodge was held on the 29 th ult ., when a large number of the brotherhood of the city assembled at the Masonic Hall , Castle-street , to commemorate the Festival of St . John the Evangelist . There were present , besides a goodly number of members of the lodge , a very large number of visiting brethren

from various lodges in the province , and also of other provinces . After the usual preliminaries , Bro . A . Bunyan was duly installed W . M . by Bro . R . Nelson , the retiring VV . M ., who also gave the charges in a very impressive and able manner . He also invested the officers for the year as follows : Bros . A . Bunyan , VV . M . ; R . Nelson , P . M ., LP . M . ; T . Nelson , P . M ., as a token of regard from the brethren for the very

able manner he had performed the duties of Master during his year of office . The lodge being closed , the brethren afterwards adjourned to thc Crown and Mitre Hotel . Dinner was provided by the worthy host and hostess ( Bro . G . and Mrs .

Pashley ) , when upwards of 30 brethren sat down . After dinner the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given , being interspersed with a few very good songs , and a most enjoyable evening was spent . The brethren dispersed shortly before 11 o ' clock , after singing "Auld Lang Syne " and the National Anthem .

TORQUAY . —St . John ' s Lodge ( No . 32 S ) . — The brethren of this lodge met at the Masonic Hall on the 2 Sth ult ., for the purpose of installing the VV . M . elect , Bro . J . Salter . where the banquet was held , and which was served in that admirable maimer for which Mr . Ducksbury is so deservedly noted . The newly-installed Master presided , having on his right the Mayor of Lancaster , Bro . James Hatch , Bros . Simpson , T . Atkinson , Kelland , King , and on the left Bros . Stanton , Oglethorpe , Storke , John Hatch , Kershaw , and others . The vice-chair was occupied by Bro .

Nicholson . On the conclusion of the dinner , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given from the chair , and received with all the honours . "The Health of the VV . M . " was proposed in eulogistic terms by Bro . Simpson , and received with the greatest enthusiasm .

"The Health of his Worship the Mayor" was also given , and received most heartily . Bro . Pilkington , in responding to the toast of "The Secretary , " gave a few particulars respecting the early history of the lodge , and in the course of which he mentioned that Bro . Hatch was the fourteenth member of the

Lodge of Fortitude , who had occupied the chair of chief magistrate of the borough . The other toasts included that of " The Installing Officer , " " Wardens , " " Assistant Officers , " " Visitors , " & c , concluding with the Tyler ' s toast , and a very pleasant evening was spent . CARLISLE . —Union Lodge ( No . 310 ) . —The installation of VV . M . of the above lodge was held on the 29 th ult ., when a large number of the brotherhood of the city assembled at the Masonic Hall , Castle-street , to commemorate the Festival of St . John the Evangelist . There were present , besides a goodly number of members of the lodge , a very large number of visiting brethren

from various lodges in the province , and also of other provinces . After the usual preliminaries , Bro . A . Bunyan was duly installed W . M . by Bro . R . Nelson , the retiring VV . Pearce was elected lodge representative for the C . M . C . A . The banquet was held at Gulding ' s 1 lotel , where the brethren of the lodge and a number of visitors enjoyed a most

excellent spread , provided by the hostess , Mrs . Golding . Among the visitors present , in addition to those on the Board of Installed Masters , were Bros . R . T . B . Woolcock , VV . M . elect 2 S 2 ; J . Roskilly , J . VV . 282 ; W . II . Roberts , S . VV . 1104 ; and II . Bowden , S . W . 1070 . Thc usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly given and honoured , and a most pleasant evening was spent .
