Reports of the consecration of the Bushey Park Lodge and other important meetings are in type , but are crowded out , and stand over until next week . The Committee of Management of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution will hold its next monthly meeting at Freemasons' Hall , on Wednesday , the 12 th instant , at 4 p . m .

Bro . Viscount and Viscountess Sherbrooke have taken up their residence at Torquay for the winter season . Telephonic communication between London and Paris will be opened on January 1 . The Lady Mayoress held her final reception at the Mansion House on Tuesday , between the hours of three and five p . m . The attendance was more than usually numerous .

The Prince of Wales will complete his 49 th year on Sunday , having been born on the gth November , 1 S 41 . The Royal tradesmen will celebrate the auspicious event on Monday next . Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to become Patron of the British Arch .-cological and Architectural Society , which was founded in 1 S 40 , and hasjust completed its jubilee .

_ Bro . Lord Mayor Sir H . A . Isaacs presided for the last time at the meeting of the Common Council on the 30 th ult ., when a cordial vote of thanks was passed to him for his geniality and kindness in the chair , and gracefully acknowledged by his lordship .

Bro . Sir Somers Vine , of the Imperial Institute , arrived at Zanzibar from the Mauritius on Saturday last , and after an interview with our Consul-General—Col . Euan Smithwas introduced to the Sultan and a number of Arab and European merchants .

Bro . the Earl and Countess of Crawford and Balcarres and Bro . Davenport-Bromley , M . P ., were among the guests invited by the Earl and Countess of Sefton to meet H . R . H . the Duke of Clarence and Avondale during his recent visit to Croxteth Park , Liverpool .

What is known as the Lord Mayor ' s Show will take place on Monday next , and , from all accounts , will be on a scale of unusual magnificence . We can hardly wonder at this , seeing that Bro . Sheriff Augustus Harris has been taking a very active part in the arrangements .

A new African Exploring Expedition will leave England shortly under the command of Bro . Commander Cameron , R . N ., for the West Coast of Africa . The expedition is of a . private nature , but the Colonial Office has promised to give it friendly assistance through our representatives .

The Grand Commandery of Iowa held its 27 th annual Conclave at Templar Park , near Spirit Lake , on Tuesday , the 19 th August last . The meeting proved so agreeable that Templar Park has been chosen as the locality of the annual conclave in 1 S 91 . Sir Knight J . A . Grant was elected Grand Commander for the ensuing year , and Sir Knight A . Wingate , Grand Recorder .

The annual Grand Conclave of the Knights Templar body in the State of Ohio , U . S . A ., was held at Toledo , on the 21 st August . There was a large attendance , and it was agreed by a large majority to vote S 5000 towards the Masonic Home in Ohio . Sir Knight W . B . Melish was elected Grand Commander for the ensuing year , while Sir Knight John N . Bell remains at his post of Grand Recorder . Cincinnati was chosen for the annual meeting in September , 1 S 91 .

Bro . John N . Macomb , iun ., CM ., presided at the annual session of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of New York , held in the Masonic Hall , New York , on the gth September last . All the Grand Officers were present , and there was also a large attendance of members . The number of active Councils in the State is 25 , and the aggregate membership about 3000 . The officers of the Grand Council were all re-elected for the ensuing year .

Messrs . Fox and Bousfield offered for sale on Wednesday three-fourths of a freehold King ' s Share in the New River Company , divided into 20 lots , each comprising the 120 th part of a King ' s Share , and seven lots each comprising the 20 th part of a King ' s Shave . Of the 20 120 th parts the

lirst lot was sold for £ Soo , the second for £ 7 80 , the third f ° j £ V 9 ° > nve f ° £ 780 , one for £ 7 60 , and one for / . 770 Another was sold for £ 7 60 , and one or two more for £ 750 , while of the seven lots of a 20 th part two were sold for £ 4 TOO each .

On Saturday last the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Seaham Harbour , inspecting the works , the coal and shipping offices , the Drill Hall of the Seaham Artillery Volunteers , and afterwards lunching in Seaham Hall . The lodge located there presented a loyal address of welcome , which was graciously acknowledged by his Royal Highness .

Lastly the Prince inspected the Volunteers , and then , with the guests who had accompanied the Royal party , returned to Wynyard Hall . Their Royal Highnesses concluded their visit to the Marquis and Marchioness of Londonderry on Monday , on which day , in company with the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , they returned to Marlborough House .

The Prince of Wales , who was accompanied by the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , the Duke of Westminster , Bro . the Earl of Cork , and other gentlemen , opened the City and South London Electric Railway on Tuesday , Bro . Lord Mayor Sir II . A . Isaacs , Sheriff Farmer , and Bro . Sheriff Augustus Harris , with others officially and financially interested in the success of the enterprise , being likewise present . His Royal Highness was received at the Kins ?

William-street terminus , and having turned on the electric current , the whole party was conveyed by train to the Oval Station , where a brief stoppage was made , and thence to Stockwell , where a large concourse of people had assembled and gave the Prince a hearty welcome . A luncheon followed , at which , after returning thanks for his health , his Royal Highness proposed the toast of " Success to the City and South London Railway . " The proceedings terminated shortly afterwards .

The Prince and Princess of Wales , accompanied by the Duke of Clarence and Avondale and Bro . the Duke and Duchess of Fife , visited the St . James's Theatre on Monday

evening . Bro . Lord Mayor SirH . A . Isaacs presented the prizes won at the recent Exhibition of the Turners' Company in the Egyptian Hall of the Mansion House on Friday , the 31 st ult . On Wednesday , November 12 th , Bro . Terry proposes

inaugurating a series of Wednesday matinees for the purpose of trying several new plays , and reviving some old ones from his repertoire . An expenditure of £ 2000 has been sanctioned by the Court of Common Council for the renewal and decoration of the apartments at the Mansion House in view of the new Mayoralty , which begins on Monday next .

The Indian troopship Serapis arrived at Portsmouth on Monday morning , having on board , among other troops , the 17 th Lancers , which has been absent from England for 11 years . The regiment will be quartered for a time at Shorncliffe .

The Queen s Staghounds opened the season with the customary meet at Salt Hill , near Slough . The Master of the Buckhounds was present , as well as a large field , the deer being taken at the close of a good run , near Chalfont St . Giles .

Bro . the Marquis of Hartington , M . P ., addressed a large political meeting at Edinburgh on the 31 st ult ., among the principal personages present on the platform being Bros . Sir Charles Dalrymple , Bart ., M . P ., the Earl of Stair , the Earl of Haddington , and the Earl of Home .

On and after Wendesday , the 5 th instant , the doors of Terry ' s Theatre will open at 7 . 30 p . m ., and the performance commence at 7 . 45 with an original play , in one act , by Messrs . Goldsworthy and Norman , entitled " My Friend Jarlet , " followed at 8 . 30 by " Sweet Lavender . "

The Craft of the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland cannot but be highly gratified to learn that Bro . Geo . J . McKay , Provincial Grand Secretary , has , by a unanimous vote of the Council , been elected Mayor for the ensuing year of the ancient borough of Kendal , and it is expected that the Arts and Craf ; Exhibition will be ready for opening sometime next autumn , and a visit is anticipated of a few

high civic dignitaries during the year . The M . W . Grand Master of Victoria , Bro . Sir W . J . Clarke , and his officers having accepted invitations were present in Adelaide on September 27 th , when the M . W . Grand Master of South Australia , Bro . His Excellency the Right Hon . the Earl of Kintore , laid the foundation-stone of St . Peter ' s Cathedral . The M . W . Pro Grand Master

of New South Wales , Bro . the Hon . Dr . Tarrant , M . L . C ., was also present . A new Masonic Temple at Henley was dedicated on Monday , the 27 th ult ., for the use of the members of the Thames Lodge . In the absence of both the Prov . Grand Master ,

the Earl of Jersey , and of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Reginald Bird , the ceremony was performed by Bro . the Rev . H . Sayers . It was followed by the installation of the W . M . for the ensuing year . The proceedings were successfully carried through , and the brethren afterwards dined together at the Red Lion Hotel .

The Arboretum Lodge , No . 731 , Derby , has arranged with Pro . Stevens for the delivery of his interesting lecture on " The Ritual and Ceremonial of the Symbolic Degrees of Freemasonry " in the Masonic Hall , Derby , early in December . Bro . Stevens wishes to call attention to this engagement , and to intimate to the brethren of the Province of Derbyshire that he would be glad to make similar arrangements with other lodges in neighbouring towns for visiting at about that date .

A regular Quarterly Communication of the United Grand Lodge of Victoria was held at Melbourne on Monday , September 15 th , the M . W . Grand Master , Bro . Sir W . J . Clarke , Bart ., being present . It was agreed to grant fraternal recognition to the newly-formed Grand Lodge of New Zealand , and to the also recently-formed Grand Lodge of Tasmania . Commissions were received from the United

Grand Lodge of England and Wales , and from the Grand Lodge of Arkansas . They were delivered to the representatives . The representative of Arkansas is Bro . J . Coverlid , sen ., P . G . R ., and that of England Bro . J . James , P . D . G . M . The latter was presented with the elaborate representative ' s jewel sent by H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and which is held by the representative of that Grand Lodge during the tenure of his office .

A meeting of the General Committee entrusted with the arrangements for the annual festival and ball in aid of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held on Friday last , at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , under the presidency of Bro . R . H . Leake . As the result of a most cordial and entirely unanimous vote , Bro . Councillor J . De Bels Adam , VV . M . 6 S 0 , who so

successfully and courteously occupied a similar position last year , was elected for the second time to occupy the post of Chairman of the Ball Committee . Bro . E . Sherwood , P . M . 786 , was chosen Vice-Chairman , and Bro . E . R . Latham , I . P . M , 594 , was unanimously selected to fill the post of Honorary

Secretary pro tem ., in consequence of the unavoidable absence during November of Bro . A . H . Morecroft , C . C , ivho was elected the Honorary Secretary at the meeting on the previous Friday . The Printing , Music , and Refreshment Committees were appointed , and the meeting was adjourned for a fortnight .

Her Majesty has been pleased to confer the Grand Cross of the Star of India on the Sultan of Zanzibar on the occasion of her assuming the protectorate over his dominions . We are glad to hear that the Countess of Jersey is reported to be making most satisfactory progress towards recovery from her recent attack of typhoid fever . Bro . Sir Henry Drummond Wolff has now , Reuter says ,

recovered sufficiently to allow of his leaving Teheran for England , on the 12 th inst ., as was proposed . The Prince of Wales has consented to become a patron of the Newmarket Stablemen ' s Institute and Free Reading and Recreation Rooms , and has contributed a donation of five guineas to the funds . Bro . Sheriff Augustus Harris has kindly promised £ 5

towards Mr . Charrington's great feed , to be given to the very poor in the Great Assembly Hall , Mile End , on Lord Mayor ' s Day . The first meeting after the recess of the Council of the Royal Agricultural Society was held in Hanover-square on Wednesday , among those in attendance being Bros , the Earl of Ravensworth ( the President ) , the Earl of Faversham , and others .

The will , with five codicils , has now been proved of the late Earl of Carnarvon , who died on the 28 th June last , aged 59 years . The annual festival of the Hampshire andlsle of Wight Masonic Educational and Benevolent Institution will be held at Southampton on the Sth prox . under the presidency of the Right Hon . Bro . W . The 32 nd anniversary banquet of Royal Warrant holders , to be held at the Criterion next Monday , under the presidency of Colonel Howard Vincent , M . P ., promises to beof exceptional interest . A large number of representative traders , not only from the West-end , but also from the provinces and even foreign countries , have announced their intention of being present .

Bro . Sir R . Fowler , M . P ., speaking as Chairman on Wednesday night at the opening of the 30 th session of the Institute of Bankers , congratulated the members on the increasing prosperity of the institute , and stated that the current year had been a fairly prosperous one . Guy Fawkes Day was to a less extent than usual the

occasion for the display of uncouth Guys in the streets of London , though in certain towns in the provinces there was the procession , bonfire , and fireworks . VVe hear , however , that one or two objectionable displays occurred in London , and we should hope the police would in future years take steps to prevent any of a similar character .

The _ Princess of Wales , accompanied by the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , left Marlborough House on Wednesday afternoon for Sandringham , where they rejoined the Princesses Victoria and Maud of Wales . The Prince , who has been on a visit to Bro . Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild , at Waddesden Manor , will leave London to-day ( Friday ) to rejoin his family .

Another of Mrs . Baskcomb's pleasant "At Homes" took place on Sunday last at Gloucester-road , Regent's Park . The hostess played two pianoforte solos , which were finely rendered and much applauded . Other contributions to the programme were well received , especially a banjo solo by Mr . J . Shadwell Gierke . We noticed amongst others present Bros . J . H . Matthews , Phipps , Frank Richardson , T . H . Tilton , and Capt . H . Wright .

At the usual quarterly meeting of the Portal Lodge , No . 155 , of Mark Master Masons , held at the Masonic Hall , Frame , Somerset , on Thursday , the 30 th ult ., Bro . A . G . Hayman , 30 ° , W . M ., in the chair , Bro . the Viscount Dungarvan , G . S . W . of Eng ., , was duly elected as W . M . for

the ensuing year . The installation will take place at Frome on the 29 th January next , when the . ceremony will be performed by Bro . R . C . Else , P . G . M ., and owing to the grand popularity of his lordship , a large and distinguished gathering of brethren is expected .

On Monday last , the 3 rd inst ., the much respected W . M . elect of the Kingsland Lodge , No . 16 93 , Bro . H . C Turner , was buried at Abney Park Cemetery , the principal officers of the lodge acting as chief mourners in the absence of his mother , who was the only relation he had . He was followed

to the grave by a great number of the members of the Kingsland and other lodges , who sent most magnificent wreaths , especially that given by the brethren of his mother lodge . Alter the service at the grave the VV . M ., Bro . Mayer , delivered a suitable address .

'I he half-yearly meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lancashire will take place on the 21 st inst ., in the Central Hall , Oldham-street , Manchester . Business connected with finance and the Charities of the province will be transacted , and , in accordance with the suggestion thrown out by the Provincial Grand Master at the annual meeting at Burnley , that the Charity Committee should select some Charity for a further donation to be given from Provincial

Grand Lodge funds , it will be proposed by the Chairman of the Charity Committee , and seconded by the Vice-Chairman , that the sum of 100 guineas be given to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , £ 52 ios . in the name of the Prov . S . G . W ., and £ 52 ios . in that of the Prov . J . G . W . After Provincial Grand Lodge is closed , there will be a Court of Governors of the Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution of the province , to receive a report of the financial position and general working of the Institution .
