All the Grand Officers were present , and there was also a large attendance of members . The number of active Councils in the State is 25 , and the aggregate membership about 3000 . of New South Wales , Bro . the Hon . Dr . Tarrant , M . L . C ., was also present . A new Masonic Temple at Henley was dedicated on Monday , the 27 th ult ., for the use of the members of the Thames Lodge . In the absence of both the Prov . Grand Master ,
the Earl of Jersey , and of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Reginald Bird , the ceremony was performed by Bro . the Rev . H . Sayers . It was followed by the installation of the W . M . for the ensuing year . The proceedings were successfully carried through , and the brethren afterwards dined together at the Red Lion Hotel .
The Arboretum Lodge , No . 731 , Derby , has arranged with Pro . Stevens for the delivery of his interesting lecture on " The Ritual and Ceremonial of the Symbolic Degrees of Freemasonry " in the Masonic Hall , Derby , early in December . Bro . Stevens wishes to call attention to this engagement , and to intimate to the brethren of the Province of Derbyshire that he would be glad to make similar arrangements with other lodges in neighbouring towns for visiting at about that date .
A regular Quarterly Communication of the United Grand Lodge of Victoria was held at Melbourne on Monday , September 15 th , the M . W . Grand Master , Bro . Sir W . J . Clarke , Bart ., being present . It was agreed to grant fraternal recognition to the newly-formed Grand Lodge of New Zealand , and to the also recently-formed Grand Lodge of Tasmania . Commissions were received from the United
Grand Lodge of England and Wales , and from the Grand Lodge of Arkansas . They were delivered to the representatives . The representative of Arkansas is Bro . J . Coverlid , sen ., P . G . R ., and that of England Bro . J . James , P . D . G . M . The latter was presented with the elaborate representative ' s jewel sent by H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and which is held by the representative of that Grand Lodge during the tenure of his office .
A meeting of the General Committee entrusted with the arrangements for the annual festival and ball in aid of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held on Friday last , at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , under the presidency of Bro . R . H . Leake . As the result of a most cordial and entirely unanimous vote , Bro . Councillor J . De Bels Adam , VV . M . 6 S 0 , who so
successfully and courteously occupied a similar position last year , was elected for the second time to occupy the post of Chairman of the Ball Committee . Bro . E . Sherwood , P . M . 786 , was chosen Vice-Chairman , and Bro . E . R . Latham , I . P . M , 594 , was unanimously selected to fill the post of Honorary
Secretary pro tem ., in consequence of the unavoidable absence during November of Bro . A . H . Morecroft , C . C , ivho was elected the Honorary Secretary at the meeting on the previous Friday . The Printing , Music , and Refreshment Committees were appointed , and the meeting was adjourned for a fortnight .

Bro . Sir R . Fowler , M . P ., speaking as Chairman on Wednesday night at the opening of the 30 th session of the Institute of Bankers , congratulated the members on the increasing prosperity of the institute , and stated that the current year had been a fairly prosperous one . Guy Fawkes Day was to a less extent than usual the
occasion for the display of uncouth Guys in the streets of London , though in certain towns in the provinces there was the procession , bonfire , and fireworks . VVe hear , however , that one or two objectionable displays occurred in London , and we should hope the police would in future years take steps to prevent any of a similar character .
The _ Princess of Wales , accompanied by the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , left Marlborough House on Wednesday afternoon for Sandringham , where they rejoined the Princesses Victoria and Maud of Wales . The Prince , who has been on a visit to Bro . Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild , at Waddesden Manor , will leave London to-day ( Friday ) to rejoin his family .

At the usual quarterly meeting of the Portal Lodge , No . 155 , of Mark Master Masons , held at the Masonic Hall , Frame , Somerset , on Thursday , the 30 th ult ., Bro . A . G . Hayman , 30 ° , W . M ., in the chair , Bro . the Viscount Dungarvan , G . S . W . of Eng ., , was duly elected as W . M . for
the ensuing year . The installation will take place at Frome on the 29 th January next , when the . ceremony will be performed by Bro . R . C . Else , P . G . M ., and owing to the grand popularity of his lordship , a large and distinguished gathering of brethren is expected .
On Monday last , the 3 rd inst ., the much respected W . M . elect of the Kingsland Lodge , No . 16 93 , Bro . H . C Turner , was buried at Abney Park Cemetery , the principal officers of the lodge acting as chief mourners in the absence of his mother , who was the only relation he had . He was followed
to the grave by a great number of the members of the Kingsland and other lodges , who sent most magnificent wreaths , especially that given by the brethren of his mother lodge . Alter the service at the grave the VV . M ., Bro . Mayer , delivered a suitable address .
'I he half-yearly meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lancashire will take place on the 21 st inst ., in the Central Hall , Oldham-street , Manchester . Business connected with finance and the Charities of the province will be transacted , and , in accordance with the suggestion thrown out by the Provincial Grand Master at the annual meeting at Burnley , that the Charity Committee should select some Charity for a further donation to be given from Provincial
Grand Lodge funds , it will be proposed by the Chairman of the Charity Committee , and seconded by the Vice-Chairman , that the sum of 100 guineas be given to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , £ 52 ios . in the name of the Prov . S . G . W ., and £ 52 ios . in that of the Prov . J . G . W . After Provincial Grand Lodge is closed , there will be a Court of Governors of the Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution of the province , to receive a report of the financial position and general working of the Institution .
