It was proposed that the annual subscription to the chapter be reduced from £ 1 is . to ios . 6 d ., which was carried . The Prelate , E . and P . Bro . Thomas Bateman Fox , gave notice that at the next meeting he should propose that the advancement fee be reduced to £ 3 3 s . and the joining fee to £ 1 is . The

G ., was unable through illness to be present that evening . They had hoped to have had the pleasure of handing to him a golden wedding present which had been voted out of the funds of the chapter . It was a source of great gratification to know that their illustrious brother was

slowly improving , and that they might in all probability see him at their next meeting . He should , therefore , hand the present to his son , E . and P . Bro . F . VV . Banister , asking him to give it to his esteemed and much respected father , and at the same time assure him of the loyalty of his brethren , and their best thanks for all the many kindnesses he had rendered , and that it might please

the Heavenly Father to shortly restore him to good health and grant to him and his dear wife many years of happiness together . The present consisted of four Jubilee £ 5 pieces in a suitable case . E . and P . Bro . F . VV . Banister replied : " On behalf of my father 1 have much pleasure in accepting the very kind present , and I am sure it will be received by him with equal pleasure . He desired to be remembered

to all present most kindly , and to state that nothing but illness , which illness had kept him to the house nearly four months , prevented him being present , and to acknowledge personally your great kindness and affectionate regard which all the members of the chapter had shown him ever since it was consecrated . He desired me further to say he sincerely trusted and hoped that the chapter might prosper ,

and that each individual member might be thrice blessed in this world , and inherit eternal happiness in those Heavenly mansions where he trusted we should all meet at last , and , further , he earnestly hoped to be with you at your next meeting , and then thank you all personally . " E . and P . Bro . J . D . Kay , Treas ., said he had great pleasure in being present that night , and should have liked to have had the presence of 111 .

Bro . Banister , that they might have personall y thanked him for the great interest he had at all times taken in the welfare of the chapter . Bro . Banister had never spared time or trouble on their behalf , and had they been an older chapter and had a larger number of members , no doubt the offering would have been greater . E . and P . Bro . Monckman , P . M . W . S . 69 , said that as one who had known Bro . Banister he could bear testimony to the kindness shown

to him personally from the day that he was a boy up to the present time . He remembered the very genial manner of Bro . Banister to all with whom he came in contact , and was g lad to have been present , and to have taken part in the evening ' s proceedings . The chapter was shortly after closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet hall , where a very pleasant and enjoyable evening was spent .

FRATERNAL VISIT OF THE ST . NICHOLAS LODGE , No . 16 7 6 ( E . C ) , TO ST . DAVID'S LODGE , No . 3 6 ( S . C ) .

On the 21 st ult ., the W . M . of St . Nicholas Lodge , Bro . T . Lewins , accompanied by Bros . W . Charlton , jun ., S . W . ; R . H . Holme , J . W . ; A . Scott , I . P . M . ; R . W . Scotland.

E . T . Dodds , H . Himsworth , P . T . Paley , and Wm . Pickering , all of Lodge No . 16 7 6 , and supported by Bros . S . F . Bates , P . M . 1664 ; R . Raeburn , W . M . 4 8 ; T . Pickering , Steward 24 ; W . Dorman , 406 ; A . Kinghorn , 481 ; and P . W . Turnbull , 1342 , left Newcastle-on-Tyne at 11 . 10 a . m . in a saloon carriage , and

proceeding by North British Railway ( Waverley route ) , arrived at Edinburgh in the afternoon . They were met at the station there by a deputation from St . David ' s Lodge , Edinburgh , and conducted to the Imperial Hotel , where a special and ornate dinner was provided for them by the proprietors , Messrs . Pickett .

After dinner , the visitors clothed and attended lodge , when the Third Degree was admirably worked by the R . W . M ., Bro . Robertson , assisted by his officers and a distinguished company of Scottish brethren . Adjourning from the lodge room to the banquet hall , the lodge was again opened , and the different deputations were admitted

with musical honours . The lodge being called from refreshment to labour , the R . W . M . affiliated the W . M . of St . Nicholas Lodge to St . David ' s Lodge , and presented him with a jewel and his certificate from the Grand Lodge of Scotland in a leather case , with gilt inscription .

A most delightful evening was then spent , the brethren contributing to the harmony in a praiseworthy manner , and the lodge was closed . From the expressions of all the brethren who addressed the gathering it was patent that the bond of fraternity between the English and Scotch brethren had been incalculably increased and cemented by the

visit . The next morning the visitors were photographed , and part visited the Forth Bridge and other places of interest , while the remainder visited the ancient lodge room of Canongate Kilwinning , where the records and relics of that most celebrated lodge were exhibited

and explained by the Right Worshipful Master of Kilwinning , Bro . Grey . The old minutes were read , and the hallowed memories of those elder brethren so celebrated in song and story , political , civil , and military triumph recalled . Interested beyond description , and instructed most usefully , the visitors

assembled once more at the Imperial to enjoy dinner , when the Ri ght Worshipful Master of St . David's , supported by his Past Masters and the Right Worshipful Master of Kilwinning were guests of the W . M . and brethren of St . Nicholas . The return journey was commenced at 4 . 20 p . m .

on the 22 nd , and during the journey Bro . Himsworth , on behalf of himself and the brethren of the St . Nicholas , presented the W . M . of St . Nicholas with a memento of the visit in the shape of a case of solid silver salt-cellars and spoons for Mrs . Lewins , and a chaste brooch for Miss Lewins , so that the

recollection of this the first visit of St . Nicholas Lodge over the borders mi ght remain an enduring memory not only with him , but with his household . Refreshments were served during the return journey , and the distance rendered almost unnoticeable by harmony and pleasant converse . It is worthy of note that the old lodge of St .

David ' s ( the mother lodge of Sir Walter Scott ) has not been visited by any English lodge since 1845 . It is impossible to find words to describe all the events of the trip , or to convey a fair impression of the enjoyment of the brethren , but so pleasant did the visit prove that they have determined at no distant date to journey towards " Auld Reekie" and have a repetition of the pleasures .

GLASGOW . Glasgow Chapter ( No . 50 ) . —A special meeting of the above Royal Arch chapter was held at the St . Mark ' s Masonic Hall on the 29 th ult ., the proceedings being of an unusual character . Comp . E . Macbean , the M . E . Z ., determined that the decease of the lamented Comp . T . VV . Brownlee , P . Z . 50 , & c , should not be passed over according

to the ordinary custom which prevails in the neighbourhood on the death of Masonic worthies , but that a commemoration funeral service should be held , hence the special chapter . The form of service , arranged by the M . E . Z ., appears to be as near perfection as possible , and forms a choice souvenir of the event . There was a large , and deeply

interested number of companions present , who entered most zealously into the several portions of the service , and everything passed off without a single hitch , though many of the arrangements were entirely novel as respects a funeral commemoration in Scotland . The eulogy by Comp . E . Macbean , M . E . Z ., Grand Treasurer ot the province , was especially appropriate , and

was considered to rank amongst his best efforts , and in his address his kind and appreciative references to Comp . Hughan , of Torquay , who is the oldest member of the chapter now on the roll , were well received . The ceremony will not be soon forgotten by those present , and all feel much indebted to the M . E . Z . for the imposing and suitable memorial of a worthy companion .

W . ; R . H . Holme , J . W . ; A . Scott , I . P . M . ; R . W . Cummins , D . C . ; G . Richardson , S . D . ; J . G . Cole , j . D . ; Wm . Guthrie and R . Bellwood , Stwds . . F . J . Allen , M . Dodsworth , Jos . Donkin , Geo . Donkin !

Scotland.
