PLUMSTEAD . Excelsior Lodge ( No . 226 ) . Bro . Col . C . E . Vansittart , O . S . C , S . VV . and VV . M . elect , was installed VV . M . of the above lodge on Friday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant , by his old and esteened friend and companion in arms , Bro . Capt . VV . Weston , R . A ., P . M ., G . f . G . of the Grand A / ark Lodge

of England , and P . P . J . G . W . Kent . The lodge was opened by Bro . C . Jolly , P . P . G . O ., VV . M ., vvho vacated the chair to allow Bro . Weston to proceed with his important duty . Bro . Vansittart was then presented and installed in the chair of A ., after vvhich he invested his officers as follows : Bros . C Jolly , I . P . M . ; | . Warren , S . VV . ; F . Reed , P . P . G . Arnold , W . M . 411 , P . P . S . G . D . East Anglia ; and VV . C Taylor , VV . M . 44 . The banquet was partaken of at Bro . Capon ' s I lotel , the Earl of Chatham Arms , Thomas-street , Woolwich , and was much enjoyed . The usual loyal and Grand Mark Lodge toasts vvere duly honoured .

Bro . Weston , responding for the latter , said he considered thc honour conferred upon him not so much as a personal one as an honour to the lodge . He had not the slightest doubt that the honour emanated from the well-known fact that the Excelsior l . odge had done as much or more in its time forthe Mark Benevolent Charity than any lodce under the banner of the Province of Kent ; indeed , he ought to

say than any lodge under the Grand Lodge of England . The Excelsior Lodge alone had G 5 votes , Bro . Penfold had 42 at his command , he ( Bro . Weston ) had 30 , the late Bro . llayes had 37 , Bro . Coupland iS , and if they took the other members of the lodge with votes they would lind his statement correct in every paiticular , so that hc thought he had shown good reason for saying that the honour paid him vvas

an honour paid to the lodge , and not to him personally . On behalf ol the Grand Ollicers , he thanked them cordially . Bro . Aliller also responded . Bro . Montgomery , in responding for "The Visitors , "

. said that vvas the lirst visit he had paid the lodge , although he bad met many of thc brethren of it i-i other lodges and in other Degrees . He had spent nwny years in Mark Masonry , but had never spent such a pleasant time as he had that day and evening . lie wished the Worshipful Master and every member of the lodge long life and

prosperity . Bro . Taylor , VV . M . 44 , said he had had the honour of being at tbat lodge before . He had the honour of the acquaintance of their esteemed VVorshipful Master for the last few years , and vvas proud to see him in his present exalted position .

Mark Masonry.

Bro . Arnold said that vvas his mother lodge in Mark Masonry , and was pleased to be present and see so many of his old Masonic friends . Bro . Morris said he felt at home , and as the I . P . M . ol Bro . Taylor's lodge he was pleased to be present and sec

their VV . M . installed . He had heard vvith regret that Bro . Vansittart was ordered for service in Egypt , but trusted a safe return awaited him some day . There was not a Mason in Woolwich that did not regret their VVorshipful Master's departure . Bro . Jolly having eloquently proposed the toast of "The

VV . M ., " Bro . Vansittart , in reply , said it was a great grief to him to know that he must go and leave such good friends behind him as his brother Masons in Woolwich , especially those of the . Kxcelsior Lodge ; but it-vvas ' only for a soldier to obey the orders of his superiors . It had been his ambition to be Master of that , his mother lodge , and no doubt that if he had stayed there Provincial Grand Mark

honovirs would have been his . It was he knew no empty boast of Bro . Jolly ' s when he said he would see that the work of the lodge vvas not neglected , for they all knew vvhat a splendid worker Bro . Jolly vvas , so that while he felt it a calamity for a W . M . to have to leave his lodge directly after his installation , he felt perfectly safe that in Bro . Jolly ' s hands the lodge could not suffer for want of proper

instruction . He cordially thanked them for their hearty good wishes , and should ever remember his connection with the lodge vvith pride and pleasure . Bros . Jolly , Penfold , Moulds , and Kennedy responded for "The Past Masters , " and Bro . Weston for '" The Installing Officer . " "The Officers" and Tyler's toast closed the proceedings , which were most harmonious .

M . of the above lodge on Friday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant , by his old and esteened friend and companion in arms , Bro . Capt . VV . Weston , R . A ., P . M ., G . f . G . of the Grand A / ark Lodge

of England , and P . P . J . G . W . Kent . The lodge was opened by Bro . C . Jolly , P . P . G . O ., VV . M ., vvho vacated the chair to allow Bro . Weston to proceed with his important duty . Bro . Vansittart was then presented and installed in the chair of A ., after vvhich he invested his officers as follows : Bros . C Jolly , I . P . M . ; | . Warren , S . VV . ; F . Reed , P . P . G . I . G ., J . VV . ; J . Farrier , M . O . ;

Weston then gave the addresses and concluded the ceremony , for the excellence of which he

vvas accorded a hearty vote of thanks . Bro . Jolly vvas presented vvith a valuable Past Master ' s jewel , and then the lodge was closed . Among the other brethren present were Bros . A .
