The banquet vvas spread at Bro . Peter Reynolds' Golden Lion Hotel .

Grand Officers , Present and Past , " said he felt deepl y the responsibility the toast involved him in , and sincerely wished that it had been entrusted to the hands of Bro . Quennell . He could , however , and with every confidence say , that their beloved Prov . Grand Master took a great and lively interest in

Masonry , not only in the province over which he had so well and prosperously reigned , but wherever his presence was of the slightest service . After eulogising the splendid services rendered the province by Bro . Philbrick , their Deputy Prov . Grand Master , he concluded by saying that whatever the Provincial Grand Officers could do for the Craft and the province , they would do , and he vvas pleased

to see and hear the general satisfaction that their efforts brought forth at all their lodge meetings . Bro . Quennell , in answer to repeated calls , said that as an old , high and dry Past Provincial Grand Officer , he thought that he should have been allowed to stand out , or at least to sit down , without being called upon to respond , especially as Bro . White had already so ably responded .

Ihere was no doubt that in Lord Brooke they had one who was indefatigable in his endeavours to promulgate the genuine principles and tenets of the Order . When he ( Bro , Quennell ) vvas first made a Provincial Grand Officer , some of his friends said— " Well , now you have got it , vvhat use is it to you ? " and he replied that it was , or ought to ! > t , the aspiration of everv trood provincial Mason to train

honours in his Provincial Grand Lodge . After referring to Ihe grand spectacle presented at Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge , he held that it vvas a high honour to he permitted to take part in the proceedings on those grand arcasions , and heartily thanked the VV . M . and brethren for "ie manner in which the toast had been put and received . . Bro . Hardv then Dronosed the toast of "The Wnrshinful

'Master , " who , he said , had plodded on patiently and , 'ealously , from the lowest to the highest office in the lodge , •ney all wished him a pleasant year of office , and he cordiall y wished their VV . SHEFFIELD . Ivanhoe Lodge ( No . 1779 ) . —The regular monthly meeting of this lodge vvas held at the Masonic Hall , on Tuesday , the 27 th ult . The VV . M ., Bro . W . J . The lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed , Mr . Riley Carr vvas initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry , in a very impressive manner , by the W . M . The lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to supper , after vvhich a very enjoyable evening vvas spent .

WOOLWICH . Florence Nightingaje Lodge ( No . 706 ) . —The above lodge always holds its installation meeting on St . John ' s Day , vvhich day fell on Saturday , the 24 th ult ., nevertheless , a brilliant assemblage of brethren assisted at the placing of Bro . F . J . Down in the chair of the above ancient and honourable lodge . The lodge was held in the

handsome Assembly Room of the Royal Mortar Hotel , opposite the principal gates of her Maj ' esty ' s Royal Arsenal . Bro . F . G . Nichols vvas the Installing Officer . " He said that as senior Past Master it vvas his duty and also his

pleasure to propose the toast of their W . M . He had had the pleasure of witnessing Bro . Down's work in the minor offices of the lodge , and from that he felt sure that in that brother thc lodge would have a good Master , and the Master a good year of office . Bro . Down had tried hard , and had succeeded , in making himself proficient in his work , and as a reward he called upon them to drink the toast heartily .

The VV . M . briefly responded , saying he felt gratified at having achieved the chair of the lodge . I le trusted every brother would assist him , and then they would get along very nicely . Bro . Birch , in responding for " The Visitors , " congratulated the W . M . on his installation , and wished him a prosperous year of office . He was delighted vvith the work of their Bro . Nichols , the Installing Officer , he ( Bro .

Nichols ) vvas not onl y a good vvorker but a good singer , so that in him both labour and harmony vvere combined . He hinted that Bro . Mason would receive Provincial Grand honours shortly , and congratulated him upon the fact , and on his own behalf thanked the lodge for their hospitality and good fellowship . Bros . Bateman , Taylor , and Bilton also responded .

After Bro . Christie nad briefly responded for " The Past Masters , " Bro . Denton proposed the toast of "The Installing Officer , " Bro . Nichols , vvho , in response , said he had nothing to add to vvhat hc had already said in the lodge when the brethren voted him thanks for his services that day , Hc had performed a ceremony that it appeared had given them satisfaction , and he could only say that if the

work had been done to their satisfaction and would bring any credit to the lodge that vvas his reward . The lodge lived by its work , and for the last six or seven years his had been no exceptional work , for every officer had done his work well , and so carried out thc traditions of the lodge to the satisfaction of the Past Masters , and indeed , to every

brother of the lodge . He thanked them much for their hearty reception of the toast . "The Officers" and Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings . Some excellent singing and instrumental music added to the enjoyment . Bros . Nichols ( piano ) j Horton ( violin ) j Walker ( 'cello ); while the splendid tenor organ of Bro . Mason , jun ., was much admired in several ballads .

After the proposition of a candidate and " Hearty good wishes , " the chapter vvas closed .

The usual loyal and Grand Chapter toasts having been proposed and honoured , Comp . Weston , in proposing "The M . E . Z ., " said hc vvas one vvho did his work so thoroughly in a chapter noted for its good work from its earliest existence , as to make them all understand that the M . E . Z . felt all he said and must have so impressed the exaltee , that his after thoughts

must be great , and congratulated him highly . The M . E . Z ., Comp . Bailey , thanked them for their kind response . He felt more almost than his mouth could express . It was a proud moment . It seemed only a short time since he joined the chapter , and had steadily worked his way to the top of the tree , and as his efforts had pleased the companions he vvas gratified . The companions gave to

him , he felt sure , all ( he praise due to him , and so long as he had life he would belong to the chapter in vvhich he felt so much interest . " The Health of the Second and Third Principals " followed , both of whom responded . Comp . Fenton , who resided a long way off , at Oxford , thanked them for electing him M . E . Z . for the next 12

months , and would be certain to be present at all meetings , as he never felt happier than when amongst them . Comp . lnder , the exaltee , thanked them for admitting him into R . A . M ., and vvas very much impressed with the ceremony . He hoped to attend regularly and gain the necessary R . A . information to qualify him to take the various offices , which he would endeavour to carry out as

perfectly as he thought the M . E . Z . had done . The M . E . Z . expressed himself and the companions ofthe chapter as being very pleased to see the visitors , to whom they extended that hospitality due from R . A . Masons to R . A . Masons , and hoped to see them all on future occasions . " The Visitors" was responded to by Comp . Dehane , , vvho said he felt almost one of them .

Comps . Edmonds and Davison also thanked them forthe great hospitality extended to the visitors . Comp . Bailey , M . E . Z ., in proposing " The P . Zs ., " made a running comment on their various qualifications . This toast vvas received with considerable enthusiasm . Comp . Osborn responded in a very neat speech , concluding by saying the P . Z . 's would ever endeavour to keep

up the prestige of the chapter of which he was a founder . " The Officers " and Janitor ' s toasts concluded the mee ing . The speeches throughout the evening were short , as a splendid programme of music was ably carried out under the directorship of Comp . Bayne , by the following : Mrs . Skudder , Miss Jessie McLaren , Comps . Vernon Lee , and Samuel Wright .

Duke of Fife Chapter ( No . 2345 ) . —A convocation of this chapter vvas held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . C , on Saturday , the 17 th ult ., when there were present Comps . J . Masonry , not only in the province over which he had so well and prosperously reigned , but wherever his presence was of the slightest service . After eulogising the splendid services rendered the province by Bro . Philbrick , their Deputy Prov . Grand Master , he concluded by saying that whatever the Provincial Grand Officers could do for the Craft and the province , they would do , and he vvas pleased

to see and hear the general satisfaction that their efforts brought forth at all their lodge meetings . Bro . Quennell , in answer to repeated calls , said that as an old , high and dry Past Provincial Grand Officer , he thought that he should have been allowed to stand out , or at least to sit down , without being called upon to respond , especially as Bro . White had already so ably responded .

Ihere was no doubt that in Lord Brooke they had one who was indefatigable in his endeavours to promulgate the genuine principles and tenets of the Order . When he ( Bro , Quennell ) vvas first made a Provincial Grand Officer , some of his friends said— " Well , now you have got it , vvhat use is it to you ? " and he replied that it was , or ought to ! > t , the aspiration of everv trood provincial Mason to train

honours in his Provincial Grand Lodge . After referring to Ihe grand spectacle presented at Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge , he held that it vvas a high honour to he permitted to take part in the proceedings on those grand arcasions , and heartily thanked the VV . " He said that as senior Past Master it vvas his duty and also his

pleasure to propose the toast of their W . M . He had had the pleasure of witnessing Bro . Down's work in the minor offices of the lodge , and from that he felt sure that in that brother thc lodge would have a good Master , and the Master a good year of office . Bro . Down had tried hard , and had succeeded , in making himself proficient in his work , and as a reward he called upon them to drink the toast heartily .

The VV . M . briefly responded , saying he felt gratified at having achieved the chair of the lodge . I le trusted every brother would assist him , and then they would get along very nicely . Bro . Birch , in responding for " The Visitors , " congratulated the W . M . on his installation , and wished him a prosperous year of office . He was delighted vvith the work of their Bro . Nichols , the Installing Officer , he ( Bro .

Nichols ) vvas not onl y a good vvorker but a good singer , so that in him both labour and harmony vvere combined . He hinted that Bro . Mason would receive Provincial Grand honours shortly , and congratulated him upon the fact , and on his own behalf thanked the lodge for their hospitality and good fellowship . Bros . Bateman , Taylor , and Bilton also responded .

After Bro . Christie nad briefly responded for " The Past Masters , " Bro . Denton proposed the toast of "The Installing Officer , " Bro . Nichols , vvho , in response , said he had nothing to add to vvhat hc had already said in the lodge when the brethren voted him thanks for his services that day , Hc had performed a ceremony that it appeared had given them satisfaction , and he could only say that if the

work had been done to their satisfaction and would bring any credit to the lodge that vvas his reward . The lodge lived by its work , and for the last six or seven years his had been no exceptional work , for every officer had done his work well , and so carried out thc traditions of the lodge to the satisfaction of the Past Masters , and indeed , to every

brother of the lodge . He thanked them much for their hearty reception of the toast . "The Officers" and Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings . The usual loyal and Grand Chapter toasts having been proposed and honoured , Comp . Weston , in proposing "The M . E . Z ., " said hc vvas one vvho did his work so thoroughly in a chapter noted for its good work from its earliest existence , as to make them all understand that the M . E . Z . felt all he said and must have so impressed the exaltee , that his after thoughts

must be great , and congratulated him highly . The M . E . Z ., Comp . Bailey , thanked them for their kind response . He felt more almost than his mouth could express . It was a proud moment . It seemed only a short time since he joined the chapter , and had steadily worked his way to the top of the tree , and as his efforts had pleased the companions he vvas gratified . The companions gave to

him , he felt sure , all ( he praise due to him , and so long as he had life he would belong to the chapter in vvhich he felt so much interest . " The Health of the Second and Third Principals " followed , both of whom responded . Comp . Fenton , who resided a long way off , at Oxford , thanked them for electing him M . E . Z . for the next 12

months , and would be certain to be present at all meetings , as he never felt happier than when amongst them . Comp . lnder , the exaltee , thanked them for admitting him into R . A . M ., and vvas very much impressed with the ceremony . He hoped to attend regularly and gain the necessary R . A . information to qualify him to take the various offices , which he would endeavour to carry out as

perfectly as he thought the M . E . Z . had done . The M . E . Z . expressed himself and the companions ofthe chapter as being very pleased to see the visitors , to whom they extended that hospitality due from R . A . Masons to R . A . Masons , and hoped to see them all on future occasions . " The Visitors" was responded to by Comp . Dehane , , vvho said he felt almost one of them .

Comps . Edmonds and Davison also thanked them forthe great hospitality extended to the visitors . Comp . Bailey , M . E . Z ., in proposing " The P . Zs ., " made a running comment on their various qualifications . This toast vvas received with considerable enthusiasm . Comp . Osborn responded in a very neat speech , concluding by saying the P . Z . 's would ever endeavour to keep

up the prestige of the chapter of which he was a founder . " The Officers " and Janitor ' s toasts concluded the mee ing . The speeches throughout the evening were short , as a splendid programme of music was ably carried out under the directorship of Comp . Bayne , by the following : Mrs .
