that our deepest gratitude is due to the M . M . rose to propose the toast of ' * The Ladies , " and said : It gives me unbounded pleasure to rise to propose the toast of the evening . I am thankful that it has fallen to my lot to propose this toast , it being the lirst time in the Cator Lodge , and 1 have

to thank the Past Masters , ofiicers , and brethren for the support they have given me to bring it to such a successful issue , and permit me to express the hope that this is thc first of a long series of similar meetings . Brethren , what can 1 say , when themattermindsof all ages have exhausted their genius upon this subject . Painters from the earliest periods have endeavoured on canvas to depict her beauty ; sculptors from time immemorial have laboured to mould her

form in marble ; poets have vied vvith each other to sing her praises ; and I predict that as long as man exists painters , sculptors , and poets vvill continue that glorious work of pourtraying woman in all her beauty , elegance , and grace . I know you vvill all agree with me when 1 say that the Supreme Creator accomplished three great — indeed , three greatest — works when he made woman , the heavens , and the earth , and perhaps the ladies will allow me to add a fourth—man .

Can you imagine the vast azure space above us unadorned by those stupendous worlds which give us light by night and day . Can you picture to your mind ' s eye the earth blank and void without the beautiful llowers , trees , and waters . Then only by these comparisons can you form an idea of what the state of man would bc without the beautifying , civilizing , and intellectual inlluence of woman . Brethren , I call upon you , by the reverence you have lor your mothers , by the devotion you pay to your wives , and by the love you have for your daughters and sisters , to

rise and honour this toast in your most enthusiastic manner . The toast haying been most cordially received , Bro . Chalmers , a junior member of thc lodge , responded on behalf of the ladies in a speech combining kindly * thought and graceful expression . ' ¦ In proposing " ' The Health of the VV . M ., " Bro . R . C . Davis , the senior P . M . of the lodge , remarked that Bro .

Osterstock was a most exemplary man , an excellent Mason , and a linn friend . Very few knew the amount of time and energy the W . M . had bestowed on the lodge during the present year and since its formation . Upon him rested the hon ur nf lirst inviting the ladies to the Cator Lodge , and in justice to his untiring efforts he felt proud to say that after initiating 13 members , he closed a most successful year by a very brilliant evening . The jewel

which had that evening been voted was never more richly , deserved . He wished the VV . M . much happiness and prosperity , ancl a long life to support the future W . M . ' s of the Cator Lodge . 'The toast was drank most enthusiastically . The VVorshipful Master thanked sincerely Bro . Davis for proposing the toast , and the brethren for receiving * it so '

heartily , and assured them tbat as in the past the Cator Lodge had been very dear to his heart , so in the future it would continue to have his incessant thought and care . Regret vvas expressed on all sides that the few hours devoted to the ladies' evening had passed all too quickly , and that the greatest praise was due to thc Committee for the excellent arrangements they had made for the comfort of all .

possible advantage . that our deepest gratitude is due to the M . VV . the Grand Master , for all his efforts for the good of Freemasonry and all other noble works of Charity , and he felt sure that a sincere prayer would ascend from all hearts that Heaven would be pleased to bestow many years of unalloyed happiness to the youthful pair about to bc united . Thc toast vvas most cordially received . An interesting musical programme , prepared by Bros .

M . rose to propose the toast of ' * The Ladies , " and said : It gives me unbounded pleasure to rise to propose the toast of the evening .

Regret vvas expressed on all sides that the few hours devoted to the ladies' evening had passed all too quickly , and that the greatest praise was due to thc Committee for the excellent arrangements they had made for the comfort of all .

of the " Welsh Metropolis . " Despite , however , the great changes that have taken place in Cardiff during that period , the ' * Old Glamorgan" has kept well abreast of the times , and combines in a remarkable degree the ripe experience of old age with the vigour and enthusiasm of youth . Never at any previous period has this lodge been so strong either numerically or financially as at the present time . A large

and distinguished gathering of brethren from the other lodges in Cardiff and from different parts of the province assembled to Witness thc installation of Bro . its traditions and prestige . Bro . Tennant concluded b y proposing in very warm terms " The Health of the VV . M ., Bro . G . Clarry , " for whom he predicted a very happy and prosperous year of office . Bro . Clarry , VV . M ., who met with an ovation , replied in ' feeling terms , and assured the brethren that his heart was in the work , and lhat he would endeavour to the best of his ability to render the beautiful ceremonies to thc greatest

possible advantage . He also expressed the opinion that nothing would tend to cement the feeling of harmony and goodwill between the various lodges in Cardiff more than Ihe acquisition of thc new Masonic Hall in Guildford-strect , an opinion which was cordially endorsed by the unanimous applause of those present .
